This was an excellent film, yes it was 2hr40min but everything flowed so well I don't recall any dead lull's. Great effects with the 3D an you gotta see in IMax. 3D effects weren't in your face *I can do 3D" but drew you in to the movie excellent'y.

This movie is awesome! It's one of the best movies I've seen in awhile. And it's not just because of the spectacular 3D and other special effects. This is a very well made movie. In addition to being a great action & adventure movie, it's a touching love story as well. Many times in special effects movies the story kind of gets lost in all of the action and the movie gets more focused on the jaw dropping special effects than the actual telling of the story and developing the characters. Not this movie!! From a special effects standpoint it's pure eye candy, it's beautiful! But the story is also told very well. It's easy to follow and you always know what's going on. It creates real emotion. This is a great movie!!

The 3D effects and I-Max experience make this picture well worth the time.
At 2 hours and 40 minutes I was very hesitant as going in to this movie I wasn't even sure what it was really about but take the time and go enjoy.

"Avatar" is worth seeing once for the eye candy. However, beyond that it's every other noble savages saved by the civilized guy who learns their ways movie.
Why didn't the humans just *ask* for the unobtainium? They tried to trade for it by offering stuff the Na'Vi didn't want (an English language school? Why?). Why didn't the humans just go to the Na'Vi, and say, "Hey, our people desperately need this gray rock that you have no use for. Would you let us dig it up if we promise not to hurt your God-Tree?"
Also, why does every creature on Pandora have three sets of limbs except for the Na'Vi who only have two? Is it because lanky blue girls in moss bikinis wouldn't look as hot with an extra set of arms?
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Half-a-Bil? Well worth it! This movie is absolutely amazing. It brings movie-watching to a whole new level, and the IMAX takes it that much further. This theatre is very nice too. I like it better than the one at Pallisades.

My family and I liked the movie enough in regular digital 3D to see it again and sought out an Imax theater for the second viewing. We loved the enhanced sound system but we all liked watching the movie less in Imax than in regular "35mm" digital 3D. I found the picture dark and drab. My wife and daughter liked the 3D better in regular format. They are Imax fans -- I'm not, especially -- and they came out sorry they'd seen it in Imax.

Amazing movie experience. The 3-D was done in a magnificent way that it didn't feel like a gimmick. It instead puts you in the movie like no other 3-D movie. The plot is simple yet deep and the near 3 hours long run so smoothly that you can't tell its a long movie.

This movie is spectacular in every sense. The world created by James Cameron is amazing and in comparing other worlds created by authors, only J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth equals what has been created here. This movie could easily have stood on its own in taking us on an explorator adventure of the life and culture of the various tribes and inhabitants of this distant world.
The story line is certainly worthy but the visual impact especially in the IMAX 3D venue I chose was truly a visceral experience that drew me in like nothing else I have ever seen before. Whether you are a sci-fi fan or not this movie is well worth the price of admission.

Saw this movie at the IMAX 3D theater and it was fantastic. The movie is quite long and I thought people would be anxious after a couple of hours. That was not the case - I looked around and everyone, children & adults were glued to the movie screen. See this movie, it is worth it.

This movie was absolutely amazing and takes action and adventure to a new level with brilliant scenes of an alien world and exciting action scenes. It must be seen in IMAX 3D for full effect. On another note, the plot reminded me of Pocahontas.

Breathtaking...with all the nuances I would hope to see in any movie......romance, adventure, integrity, the interconnectivity that exists between all life, high tech special effects and great sound system...a must see in 3D IMAX format. Three thumbs up for sure.

I was nervous about the 3D effects but they were wonderful. No gratuitus 3D. All very tasteful and not overdone. No 3D for the sake of 3D. It all was an enhancement of the movie. 2D movies are going to seem so bland now. Great story, great acting and many amazing concepts. It was a blast.

You have got to see this film in an IMAX theater! I have viewed many other 3D films but none of them compare with Avatar. Usually 3D is just a gimmic. In this film it is extremely well integrated and becomes a part of the film experience. This is a unique ground breaking film on the order of the first Star Wars film. It is a must see film! The film's characters are well developed and draw you into a very emotional experience!

Avatar was the most amazing movie experiece I've ever had. It reminds me of the "Oh Wow" moments the first time I saw "Star Wars". Cameron has pushed the envelope WAY out this time. The environment is better than real, the FX are truly stunning, the technology is believable. I was literally STUNNED ... both times I've seen it. Even though it's 2 hrs and 40 minutes, nothing could be left out. This movie was simply phenominal and cannot be recommended highly enough

I've seen the movie in 2D, standard 3D and in IMAX 3D, and I have to say if you can see this movie at the Imax, it is definitely the best way to see it. It is also the best use of 3D in any movie I've seen. The 3D effects are used to immerse you in the movie, not just to startle you or make you jump. As for the movie itself, it is very very well done. Of all the long movies I've seen this one really makes you forget time passing. The story is well done and balanced. The only negative I have is the the ending is a bit rushed and some of the things the Na'vi do is out of character and stupid (in the battle scenes). But over all it is a must see movie, and especially worth the extra cost of seeing it at the IMAX.

The plot was descent, but we obviously didn't spend IMAX money for the plot. If you're going to go the theater...definitely go to see a visually superior movie, and this is the one to see! I loved how the 3D effects literally jumped out at you, which is a great improvement over the movie "UP" that just added a little depth to the movie. EVEN THE 3D PREVIEWS WERE GREAT (Keep an eye out for Alice In WOnderland 3D and Hubble 3D)!!! Avatar kept my 5 y/o sons attention for the whole 3 hrs!

First, get there early. Second, empty your bladder. Third, bring lens tissues to clean the 3D glasses. Fourth, sit back and get absorbed into a technically marvelous, character warmth, dry humor sprinkling and audio marvelous experience. No one, not one person left the movie for anything for the ENTIRE 2 hours and forty minutes. So well done that movies from now on will be a viewing drag. New movies will strive to be this well done. This movie/experience has set the bar way high. And the Oscars go to..........See it on IMAX, pay the extra bucks as you won't regret it....

This is the new matrix and star wars-forget titanic. I was pressed to the screen unmindful of what at first appeared an ominous 3 hrs. The story line may be predictable but the acting is fantastic, the characters empathetic, and the new world this movie brings is addictive. Highly recommend seeing this on the biggest boldest screen around because you are going to want to soak in every detail.

I had high expectations but this film blew me away! The 3D wasn't cheesy or scary, it added visual depth to amazing scenes of space, mechs and forest. The CGI was the best I've ever seen, the floating ash, blowing ferns and flowing water was very lifelike. The story line will keep you engaged, good message and strong female and male characters. Pandora is an amazing world! This is STAR WARS for my son's generation! Highly recommend to everyone!

I just back from the movie theater after going to see Avatar in 3D IMAX. First I would like to say that I liked the movie very much. I won't go into the story since most people already know what it is about. Second, I would like to say the IMAX 3D glasses were very uncomfortable. Also, the IMAX projectors at the AMC Del Amo theater were just a pair of 1080p video projectors. Screen was big, but the resolution was no better than HD video. The sound was very good.

Do not be fooled by the "Sci-Fi" description on this one. The special effects blend into reality and you begin to believe all the fantastic eye candy is really real. A battle of good against evil, one man's struggle to do right and even a gripping love story against all odds. Don't be surprised if you want to see it again.

This movie brings enjoyment to the top. With IMAX and 3D together, it allowed us to enjoy it as if we were part of the movie itself.
However, even with the latest technology, there is still room for improvement. The movie becomes blurry during fast action sequences and is having a hard time catching up.
Overall, it is excellent and I cant wait for the blue ray copy to come out.
