The world created for this film is stunning in IMAX 3-D. The sense of depth created by the 3-D is amazing and best of all, some of the gimmicks of many 3-D movies are not to be seen here. You feel immersed in this world in a way I have not experienced. (I have loved 3-D since the 1950's). The story is somewhat weak and not nearly as innovative as the ambiance created. I would also recommend watching the HBO "Making of Avatar" to get a sense of how difficult it was to make this film. Definitely a worth see, but see it in IMAX 3-D to really enjoy it.

Pros: special effects alone are worth the ticket price; must see in IMAX 3D - I especially liked the fact that they didn't overuse 3D gimmicks like so many 3D movies have in the past; fast paced non-stop action with a feel good ending. Supposed to make Americans, Western civilization in general and now the Chinese feel guilty about what we have done to indigenous peoples everywhere.
Cons: very tired story line (most cowboys & Indians and Star Wars comes to mind) with predictable outcome. Lots of intense violence near the end but hey, it's war. See comment above on indigenous peoples.
Other: You would think that humanity would be just a little better 150 years into the future than we have been over the past 150 years.

I'm giving the movie 5 stars for the visual spectacular that it is, especially in IMAX format. The film drew me in in a short while. Yes, it was "3D", and then you "were there". The music was wonderful as well, and the viewer was enveloped by the whole experience. I didn't care for the war part of the story and thought that the writers could have comeup with a more creative way to resolve the conflict. That said, see the movie, especially on an IMAX screen, this movie was made for a screen that size. It is spectacular and you'll remember this experience always.

It's obvious that a lot of thought was put into the creation of Avatar, including the science, the ecology of Pandora, and most importantly the characters and their struggle.
I've never had a film resonate with me like this one. You feel like you are right beside Jake as he explores his new world.
Treat yourself to this film in an IMAX 3D theater if you can. You will never forget the experience.
My only regret is that I can't go romping around on Pandora right now!

The story that James Cameron has woven and put into motion picture is unbelievable. With hidden messages abound, it is able to reach people for many different reasons. Strong messages of belief, acceptance, love, and courage at the forefront with many others dealing with racism and environmental protection.

The world is intriguing and the plethora of life will draw viewers in and the special effects draw them further in rather than detract viewers.

While the story is familiar and with plenty of foreshadowing, it is easy to guess what will happen which gives the viewer more time to get lost in the beauty of the planet.

Excellent movie. The story line is a basic love story of two people from different worlds that meet, fall in love and fight the "bad guys". What makes this movie so special are the graphic arts and special effects that bring the Na'Vi and their spectacular world to life! What a wonderful and fantastic place Pandora is!!! I really enjoyed this movie and so did my whole family. Not a lot of bad language and no graphic adult scenes so even the younger ones could go. Although my 9 year old who suffers from motion sickness was unable to watch the whole movie because the 3-D aspect was making her sick. She had to cover her head and listen :-)

I enjoyed the show, the 3D and IMAX was a real treat. The movie was somewhat predictable but very entertaining. I think I would actually pay to see it again, the visuals were that amazing.
The IMAX showing tend to sell out so buy your tickets on line. Also go early to get a good seat, the higher up you sit in an IMAX theaters the warming it gets. Don't make the mistake I did and sit behind a bunch of kids, they wouldn't shut up and continually kick the back of your chair.

This was an excellent movie and a beautiful world. Cameron created a place I would certainly go to. Very interesting 3-D IMAX presentation -- but the story is the same rehash of Star Wars, cowboys and indians, and other genres. They had to take the sets from old movies and put them all together. Immature producer sticking in two-bit environmental themes etc. How about a new story.

The story and cinematography are excellent, and there is some fun character development. The IMAX 3-D version is clean and loses nothing from the regular version, but it doesn't add a lot to the experience either. The movie is simply outstanding in either format; so unless you are an IMAX enthusiast you might be just as happy watching it on the regular screen. Get ready for an awesome movie that will leave you wanting to see it again!

We saw this movie both in Imax 3d and regular 3d. There was very little noticeable difference - (We thought there was a little more depth to the 3D in Imax) but in both 3D versions the 3D effects were astounding. The plot had it all - romance, suspence, death, war and the development of in an interesting, beautiful and different culture. And good triumphed in the end..

Excellent!!!!!!!! First time seeing a movie in IMAX 3D. I'm not prone to motion sickness, but found that I had to close my eyes a few times due to nausea from the motion - other than that, the experience was great.

Do you want to see a film that keeps you riveted to your seat for 2 hrs 40 min...and when it's over, you won't believe it's been that long ....and you'll immediately want to see it again !!! This film is all the hype and more. From breathtaking scenery, through outstanding action, with wonderful characters, you will be pulled into Pandora, just like Sully, and not want to come back. This movie raises the bar for future epic films.
