We saw Avatar at the IMAX in 3-D. Maybe it was the seats (too close and on side) but the 3-D ruined the movie for me. It would have been spectacular special effects and scenery except for that. Great sci-fi story.

I am certain that with this movie, Cameron has set the new standard by which all other Sci-Fi movies will be measured. The visual experience is beyond words. Amazing, captivating, a real thrillride for your eyes. GO SEE THIS MOVIE IN IMAX 3D!!!!

Excellent plot, theme, and special effects -- a well-thought-out and well-put-together movie that manages to weave several messages into a fantastic story. Usually seeing any movie once is enough for me. However, I look forward to seeing Avatar in 3D IMAX again! I highly recommend seeing this movie and experiencing 3D IMAX -- it's worth it for this movie!

I saw it in the AMC 3D digital. It was good BUT it's better seen in the REAL IMAX in Fort Lauderdale.

It was good, but nothing special. Re-tread story. Pretty to look at. Not sure why he had to wait 8 years for the technology. Waiting to see it on HBO would probably have been a better option.

Movie presentation was excellent. Nothing great about story and I am sure kid's will write better than this. Old story molded with new technology helps the movie to get watchers. We can certainly watch one time. Surely not a kid's movie (PG-13 stands right!).
If we would have got the exact same movie from a new coming director (other than James Cameron), then it would have been a flop. Directors name helped to pull this off.
If you are going with 5 year or younger kid's, I am pretty sure they will fall asleep.
Animation and the way how they leveraged the technology is excellent. We can certinaly watch one time for that.

I know this movie did not get good reviews but I have to say I loved it. Was a little long (almost 3 hours) but overall, it did what I want a movie to do - it kept me entertained. I didn't think the story line was weak, it was enchanting.

The 3D experience was immersive and the overall visual effects where beyond current state of the art. The most important aspect of the movie's success however will be the abilility of the viewer to become emotionally involved in the plight of the Navi people. In this one "we" are the aliens and we are also the "problem". In this day and age of global warming and the green movement, this movie's subplots touching on such subjects makes for good entertainment while taking a stance on such current topics that effect all of us on "our" planet. I feel that I'll need to see this one again just to appreciate all of the nuances of the film that I may have missed the first time around. Avatar is this generations "Star Wars".

Avatar is the future. You are in the story with the characters. The dimensional experience takes you away from ordinary movie watching. This is not the old fashioned 3-D--this is almost like you are in a hologram. The genius and imagination that created this film must be recognized. James Cameron gave me one of my favorite films--Aliens--and now this. The man is without equal when it comes to making movies way ahead of the curve. Jump on his bandwagon, studios--but you'll never catch up with Cameron!!

James Cameron truly raised the bar to a new level with the production of Avatar. Ironically, members of my family had seen the movie on flat screen and weren't nearly as enthused about it as my wife and I were. Perhaps having seen the movie in 3-D in Imax format was the difference maker. Artistically, Cameron made the movie for the 3-D and/or Imax experience. To see Avator in the traditional format is to overlook and not experience the emotions and awe which 3-D are meant for the moviegoer to experience. The 3-D format pulls you right into the picture. Imax intensifies the experience. If you have seen the picture only on the flat screen, I strongly suggest you go back and see the movie again in 3-D or in 3-D Imax if available.

3-D was absolutely seamless, no gimmicks, just utterly immersive.
Story was very enjoyable with good moral value.
Acting was quite decent, Zoe (the female lead), in particular.

This movie must be seen in 3D and in IMAX if available. James Cameron created this entire new way of shooting 3D and captured it beautifully on screen.
The story was straight forward but worked seamlessly with the cinematography. The movie will have you saying "Wow.." at the end of it!

I don't know quite what to say about this film just yet, I'm still in a state of shock from the overall effect of the 3-D technology, the face and body capture, and the impact of the story and performances. Let me just say: you HAVE to see this in 3-D!!! Anything else is a very poor substitute. I've already called my family in 3 other states and practically ordered them to go and catch this in IMAX while they can. You won't be disappointed!

An outstanding film despite all the hype. The movie does a great job creating a world and drawing you into it. The 3D is nice and helps to immerse you into Pandora but the story is brilliantly told by a master storyteller (even if it is an age old story). I highly recommend it.

Even though this movie seems to play a fairytale type ending, the meaning behind it is truly enspiring. It is a lesson about tolerance of those that are different and a lesson that should be shared with all. The scenes are beautiful, especially in 3D. The seamless transition between reality and special effects are also very good. It should open up dialogue with all regarding acceptance of others.

Fantasy/science fiction films often have trouble convincingly transporting their audience to unfamiliar worlds but Avatar knocked that out of the park.
However, the storyline was uneven, dragged a bit and the characters were all little more than stereotypes. Plot developments were fairly predictable and the morals of the story were repeatedly shoved down the audiences' collective throat. I didn't go to the movie because I expected a brilliant social commentary or an intriguing plot. I went because I wanted to see them blue alien dudes shoot stuff and fly around on big ol' lizards. I left contented.
