OK - let's redo Lord of the Rings with this same technology - absolutely awesome! Another world believeably created. Yeah, the story line gets predictable, but it doesn't matter with the visual extravaganza. Even my scifi-critical spouse was placated and satisfied - not one criticism! Bravo! Sit in the back half of an Imax theater - it's a lot to absorb if you're too close.

It does my heart good to know that I got my monies worth on this one. Avatar is an amazing fantasy backed up by the most unbelievable movie magic ever. I found myself immersed in a magical world, fogetting that I was sitting in a theatre filled with people wearing huge 3 D glasses. James Cameron never ceases to amaze me with his movie magic and insight into what makes us amazed.

This would only be worthwhile in the IMAX 3D experience. The effects are terrific and the created language is impressive. I actually thought more of the animals, weapons, etc. would "jump" out into the audience, but nevertheless it is worth seeing for the effects.
The story is totally predictable and requires a suspension of disbelief in several areas, but then it's a sci-fi movie. One hopes that the human race will have evolved a bit more in another 150 years as the earth humans seem to be fairly stereotypical good and bad guys. But it was a fun experience.

I didn't know anything about the movie going in, heard only about the hype - ended up being pleasantly surprised. We did see the movie in IMAX 3D, but ended up in the very front row so THAT experience is not worth sharing.
Nonetheless, the special effects were outstanding, the Avatars were "real" and the storyline, although somewhat predictable, was strong enough to bring a tear to my eye. Would love to see this again from the rear of the theater this time. Took my boys, ages 11 and 13, and both enjoyed with no complaints about the length of the film.

Beautiful, non-gimicky approach to 3D film making. It felt more like a flat screen that went deep into the visual story instead of "coming at cha" of traditional 3D. I liked the story line, characters, pacing and acting. Certainly should be seen in iMax. Most films I'm comfortable seeing on my HD plasma but this would have been a huge loss. Great film!

The movie was about 45 minutes longer than it really needed to be. Story line was good but was a bit slow in parts. Special effects were great I actually felt like I was in the forest. I loved the 3D IMAX except the glasses were a bit scratched so the picture wasn't as clear as I would have liked they don't fit over glasses very well either. But with all that said I'm not sure the IMAX 3D was worth $14 per ticket. I think I would have enjoyed it as much at home on blue ray.

Though this movie did not have the best story-line that I have ever seen (more like a modern-day cowboys and Indians), it was highly entertaining. The 3D iMax experience was a novelty and all the computerized figures were so well-done, they were believable. Now, I want to see everything in 3D. But isn't that the point? To get people back into the theaters? Until they get home TVs in 3D.

Over all this movie was awesome, I do have a couple complaints though....the previews were more "3d" then the movie itself, nothing really popped out like i thought it would maybe were I was sitting but I doubt it. The story was good, but for the time spent on this movie I thought it would have been better. But even though I say that, this movie is a must see and it was by far the best movie I have seen all year.

This is the only movie in the past 2 years that I haven't regretted going to see in the theatres. IMAX is straight up awesome, and the 3D is mindbending. Great performances, and the special effects will leave you speechless. All that, and the story is well-developed and has a bit of a political and social message with it as well. Its not everyday a sci-fi movie can pull this off. Along with District 9, easily one of the best sci fi flicks of the decade.

What a great experience. The movie was no less than amazing. Cameron did it again. The effects and C.G.I. were mind blowing. The story line is classic and somewhat predicable, but all in all it was a great time. Language was no worse than radio. Biggest complaint would be the name unobtainium. Come on, for how much money and thought that went into every detail... come on. I understand some of the complaints about underlying anti-capitalistic pro-green tones, but it was far from preachy.
All in all, tons of action, some romance just great fun for a PG-13 movie that's not Harry Potter, Transformers or Marvel(Not that there's anything wrong with that).

Forget the story line...Its a cross between Dances With Wolves and Larry Niven's "Ringworld" books. No subtlety at all...Every character is 2 dimensional. It is blatant anti-Colonialism, anti-American, anti-Business and, therefore, totally predictable. But go see this movie anyway...as long as you see it in IMAX 3-D. The computerized cinematography is nothing short of stunning. I wouldn't watch it on television or even in a 2-D theater setting, but it is the reason why IMAX 3-D exists....

Drove an hour and a half (one way) to see Avatar in 3D at an Imax! Worth every minute of the trip and every penny of the price of admission! Would highly recommend seeing this movie in 3D! The ONLY way to go. James Cameron is a genius. So realistic you forget that the Avatars are aliens! Awe inspiring scenes that truly took my breath away. LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! Avatar in IMAX 3D is visually stunning. Once your eyes adjust to the 3D and its (still) inherent stobe effect, you're completely transported into this fantastic alien world.
The performance capture technology reproduces practically every nuance of the actors' facial expressions and body language, so the CG characters are completely convincing, and their alien world is blended seamlessly with human characters and live action.
The action sequences are indeed thrilling, and the storyline is compelling enough. The movie sometimes crossed the line into cornball territory. But it was still one of the best cinematic experiences I've had in a long time.

Absolutely loved it, especially in Imax 3D. Great parallel to Native Americans and what happened when their lands were overtaken. As a Native American myself, I liked the message. This is a fantastic experience! We saw Avatar in 3D IMAX, which is definitely THE way to see it. We took some family to see it less than a week later, and now those people have taken others to see it again as well.
Pandora, the alien planet, is spectacularly detailed, down to little gnats and plant variety. The Na'Vi culture is well thought out and believable as a real group as are the individuals. I never thought 'hey, that's a cool special effect'; it's just seamless and very realistic.
For such a well done movie, the plot could be much more complex and deep. Which probably means when it hits video, it won't be as popular. But I'll see it a third time!

Definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen. How one person's brain can come up with so many fantastic creations and details is amazing. Hardly anyone moved for 2 hours 40 minutes and I for one was sorry when it was over, could have watched those special effects all night. The story was touching and we definitely enjoyed everything about it.
