A typical Jim Cameron Movie with drama action villans, hereos and love. I was trying to make the most of this movie by seeing it in Imax but the 3D effect was really spoiled I think. Because I was near the end of the line the only seat I could find was near the front. The screen was so big I had to turn my head to see the whole thing and the 3d looked weird. I think it was a fine movie just didn't really feel like I got the 3d effect like I should have. Many people aplauded at the end so perhaps it was a better experience for other people.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This MUST SEE film reaches new heights as it draws the audience in. There are many lessons within the beauty of this triumphant film. The story line is enthralling and the special effects reach a new height in novelity and integration. The production techincally represents the beginning of a new aera of achievement. The acting is smoth, engrossing, and well develops the story line. You become one with this film. If at all possible see it in 3D and better yet at an IMax.

I was totally involved from beginning to end in this film. The ideas presented by the story and the fascinating technology are an unbeatable combination.. A terrific breakthrough movie. I fully intend to see it at least once again just to try and take in all the remarkable visuals.

The framework of the story is an oldie but a goodie. Peaceful, planet-loving people are invaded by greedy outsiders. It still works and in this venue.........it was a feast for the eyes. Highly recommended!

I loved the CGI and I was totally entertained; however, the plot was very predictable.
They Navi were defined as savages and the invaders (the supposed civilized white man) had no respect for them, because they wanted to mine a mineral they decided was profitable. The desire to kill them was very savage, psychotic, irrational and arrogant.
As a Buddhist, on the other hand it had a great spiritual message that the world doesn't normally live by or value, but is a story that needs to be told nore frequently.
It was definately worth my time to see it at an IMAX theatre. The 3D wasn't bad either. Smile!

When I started watching the movie I was in awe. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. The action and the suspense, the acting and the story line and the 3-D effects just totally blew me away. Definately the greatest movie I have ever seen. I would recommend everyone to see the movie. Totally Awesome.

While the CG effects were phenomenal, the plot was fairly predictable. It was sort of a cross between The Matrix and Dances with Wolves. There were no big twists or surprises. It pretty much played out exactly as I thought it would. I also thought the 3D effect would be more "in your face". But it didn't really register that way. Nothing really flies out at you or comes off screen that much. I expected more from the 3D technology. A good movie if you just want to be entertained for a few hours.

If you are prone to motion sickness..definitely reconsider. Also plan for an all day event.
1- 1 1/2 hour wait in line if you want to get a seat that you won't have a broken neck. Or if you want to sit with your friends /family. My whole family thinks it would be better if the tickets were assigned seats. Theater is way too warm. The 3D glasses were not clear and uncomfortable for a long period of time.
For the cost and time I was very disappointed. The movie however did have some good effects, and my 11 & 13 year old kids really liked it.

This movie has everything. The story is compelling and deep; the visual is beyond incredible and the music is so fitted to the movie that it all blends as one perfect thing. I'm very glad that they waited for technology to catch up to imagination or this would not have been the wonderful experience that it was. I have recommened this to everyone I know and although I've only seen it twice, I expect to go back to the IMAX for at least one more 3D viewing.

You MUST see this movie in 3-D. It was the most incredible movie experience of my life. I brought my 18 year old son and his friend and we all felt it was one of the best we've ever seen. The 3-d is like no other 3-d experience ever. You are truly immersed in a new world in a way that is so real you won't believe it. It was NOT hokie 3-d like Harry Potter 3-d which was a waste, it was done to make you expereience the movie and NOT experience some 3-d shtick. This was great - I will go to see imax 3-d again - worth every cent...

The 3-D effect is eye-opener, and generally worked well with clean glasses. But new technology must not be over done. For some in the audience it was very in your face. I felt the dimensional depth, especially the heights.
The story made its point, shades of the subduing Native Americans and other primitive cultures, and the capitalistic drive to develop/exploit the world’s resources. Pandora was to perfect, but the message of balance vs. growth should be considered in light of the problems that we are now facing on earth.
The characters were real enough, ranging from warriors on both sides, to spiritual and science oriented personalities. They were very human, and somewhat predictable, although the plot did take some interesting turns.

Without hesitation, Avatar is technically stunning, even though I experienced "3D headache" and took a nap for three hours for recovery.
Its story line is like Matrix + Dance with Wolves + Nausica + Born on the Fourth of July into one movie: Story is quite commonplace and goes pretty much as expected. But it reminded me of classical theaters, like opera or kabuki, in which stories often well-known to audience from the first, or even sometimes isn't logical, but audience can appreciate how well it is performed, or how artistic it is articulated. Nice experience of a new era of movies.

Not just a special-effects movie (which were outstanding) but also an interesting story. Seeing this moving in the IMAX is the way to go with the huge screen and incredible sound. Even after 2 hours and 40 minutes, I was not ready for the movie to end.
The only negative was that they made the female aliens a little to life-like as they were pretty much naked their body parts had some detail. It didn't bother me too much as it was not presented in a perverse manner but some people might not like it.

James Cameron's subtle and effective use of 3D sets the standard by which future 3D movies will be measured.
Seen in IMAX 3D, the planet Pandora and its environment looks and feels real. The floating mountains and their waterfalls are totally believable.

James Cameron has created a stunning 3-D alternative-world for us to visit for a few hours (which looks even more amazing in IMAX-3D). But Cameron's grand accomplishment is far more than just the technological special effects (which are, by the way, thrilling) -- 'Avatar' is a great love story, adventure story, and morality play in the best tradition of science fiction. It combines the adventure and excitement of Cameron's "Terminator 2" with the adventure and love story of his "Titanic". My wife, son , and I loved this film, which will be enjoyed by all ages (except perhaps too much action/violence for the very young, under 9). A must-see. And try to see it in IMAX 3D for maximum impact.

The story and writing are not fantastic. The story has been done before in other movies. If I had seen this movie in a reguar theater, in 2D, I would call it average and forgetable. But the 3D IMAX experiance makes a fancy desert out of what would otherwise be a dry piece of cake. If you get motion sickness or are normally a little queezy this might not be the movie for you. The sound and visual effects are stunning. It is a nonstop 2 1/2 hour ride that compares to 3D rides at Disney or Universal. I drove 60 miles and stayed overnight since the only show that was not sold out was 11:50 pm. It was worth the drive and the stay for the effects.

I rate this movie 5 STARS, and a must -see on the biggest screen you can find. IMAX had me ducking for cover and brushing insects and sparks away by reflex, even though I knew it was really only a 3D effect causing it.
Great imagination went into creating this totally alien, yet believable world. The alien animals, language, and plantlife were all amazing and well-thought out.
I didn't like the "humans are evil and want to destroy your world" theme that has pitted your loyalties between humans and aliens (a theme which seems to dominate Sci-Fi movies these days).
The good guys win -- but what's wrong with that? We have too many movies with anti-heros winning, already.

This is the most beautiful movie I have seen in the theatre. The extra money for IMAX 3D is well worth it. People actually clapped at the end of the movie. I am not normally a sci-fi or fantasy fan, but this movie far exceeded my expectations. As soon as we left, we started planning the next time we could see this. Go now!!

After watching it twice I am still left with AWE! Even knowing what would happen still was just as thrilling the second time. Visually aesthetic and very will written. There were many times that I did not see the Nabi as non-real but as humanoid and real. Well worth the waits in line and highly recommended. Incredibly amazed with James Cameron! BRAVO!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. When it first came out I had no desire to see it. I heard a few good things about it and we had some time to kill so off we went. Visually, this movie was stunning and it had a good story line. Some reviews I have read are way too deep for me, talking about what it means symbolically, etc. Guys.....its a MOVIE. Anyways, this is a definite must see. We did not see this in 3D but as soon as the movie ended my husband and I were in agreement that we need to see this movie in Imax 3D. That will happen very soon. Hope you like it like we did.
