Visually the coolest movie I have ever seen! It was very long but there wasn't a lot of down time so it seemed shorter than 160 minutes. I would recommend it to anyone who likes big screen theater.

It is an eye-opening movie. What intrigue me most are the facial expressions and the vivid scenery. They made you feel that it is real instead of a movie. The theme and the plot are however, a little too cliche.

I can't give Avatar 5 stars because the story was enjoyable but very predictable. There were no surprises apart from the concept of Pandora.
That's the only detraction. The effects were amazing. As others have said, there was no suspension of disbelief when it comes to accepting the CGI as reality. This film featured the smoothest effects I've seen, and I'll gladly pay to see the IMAX 3-D version again while it's still in theaters.

The movie was a good movie! I will say that the plot was a little predictable, evil greedy government ignoring all advice and common sense for a precious metal. But the graphics, great detail are really nice. Isnt too gory or inappropriate for kids, but not so soft that it loses attention of adults. I do wish the native people would have been more assertive in defending their land, though. Ignore the bad reviews as most of them are pertaining to the theater itself and not the movie! Complaining about the sound, seating, screen size, and 3d glasses at the IMAX theater has nothing to do with the movie. For others who post about the theater experience, send it to IMAX or the theater chain.
Go see AVATAR!!

I've heard about this movie from so many of my friends, they told me it's a great movie. But until last night my boyfriend and I went to see the movie, Oh my god!! I never saw a movie like this in my life time!! The movie is so beautiful!!The special effect is amazing and the meaning of the story is so deep. I strongly recommend this movie to everybody.

I first saw it in the Real 3D, and then went again and took my wife and sister in law to see it in IMAX 3D, OMG this movie is just amazing. The 3D is just out of this world, and is perfect for Avatar. My wife only wants to see movies now in 3D! I have been telling everyone about Avatar, and will continue to do so. Again OMG!

I saw the movie, it had great special effects, terrible storyline and was just another liberal moviemaker indoctrinating the American public.
Why can’t Hollywood just make movies without interjecting their skewed political viewpoints anymore? Do they think the American people are all that stupid?

I have seen 3d movies before but nothing as fabulous as this. Story was engaging. Cinematography and 3D was over the top. If you see no other movie this year you have to see this. No hype. Not over rated. Great Experience.

Just can't say how much I enjoyed the visuals of this movie. Add that to a very good story-line and fairly good acting, and it's a MUST SEE in this 3D format. Hopefully this will transfer over in 3D to DVD.

This was one of the best graphic effects I've ever seen. The AVATAR simulation was so realistic and the movie itself was so engrossing we never felt the 3-hour length of the movie. Must see for all.

I had never been to an IMAX theater or watched a 3D movie before so I was expecting those flexible cardboard glasses with red and blue lenses along with a screen that sacrificed quality and resolution for huge size. Well I could not have been more wrong, the technology has greatly improved and the glasses needed were comfortable and barely noticable!
I wish I was more articulate because I could do this movie experience more justice but in simple words this was the best movie and by far the best movie experience I have ever had in my life! To be honest you have to see it to believe it! As some other reviewers have mentioned this is one of the very few movies I'd happily pay to see again at the theater!

My wife took me to this movie on the first weekend and we went a second time with her girls home from college. The movie was spectacular. The special effects alone sell the film but the message sent by the story line was what got to me. i am older and grew up reading the golden age of science fiction such as A.C Clark, Issac Assimov, Ray Bradbury and such other greats. This film incorporated much of the classic sci fi that any true junkie could crave. A great entertaining film I highly recomend it.

I was impressed by the scope of the imagination for this movie. And that the CG is now available to bring this story to the big screen is fabulous. When first brought to Pandora you are awed by the view. Then you begin to think "How did they do this"? But you don't care to find out or to look for any mishaps because the story carries you along ending with an exciting finish.

This is an experience, not just a movie. I could not recommend seeing this movie in any version other than IMAX. It was visceral!
Was totally taken in and became a part of the NaVi people in a short time. Sigourney Weaver's performance was a pleasant surprise. She was strong.
I felt the role of Parker(Ribisi's character) was poorly developed and almost an irritation in the context of this film. It was as if he did not fit the role or the role itself was ill conceived in this film.
Overall, it was a memorable experience and very convincing. I felt a part of the NaVi and they were very real!!

This was the most amazing movie I have ever seen. James Cameron has changed the face of the movie going experience, the 3D effect was subtle and not an exercise of in your face, over the top, things flying straight at you. I kept thinking that I could not believe I was seeing what I was seeing. Do not think that the movie depends solely upon the special effects, the story line was thoughtful and engaging. The extra money for the IMAX 3D was well worth it, but watching the movie on an old 13 inch TV would still be very entertaining.

I got to the movies an hour and a half before the movie to make sure I got a good seat, I was like the 50th person there. The wait was worth it, the special effects and the 3D IMAX experience was excellent, best one yet. Though I could have gone without the love story, other then that it was great. The 3D effects were well used, and at times you felt that you were actually in the movie. If you have not experienced this movie in IMAX 3D, go see it, it is a totally different experience then the regular 3D version.

We saw this movie first in 3D and then in IMAX 3D. Definitely much better visual effects in the IMAX 3D!
The story line felt like Pocahontas meets V, too many comments about killing 'Mother' earth. The slander of our military was over the top and unnecessary. The military personnel in the movie were supposedly mercenaries, but dressed, talked and acted like US military. In this time of war, I did not appreciate how Hollywood keeps tearing down our armed forces.
Al Gore would have been proud of this propaganda. I would have preferred they left the political message behind and let us just appreciate the amazing visual effects.

This was my first IMAX 3-D experience and was totally blown away! Graphics and effects were absorbing and 3-D puts you right in the middle of the action. I am in awe of the creative team who conceived this alien landscape and the people and animals with whom they populated it.

Excellent Movie! If you are only going to see it once I would not recommend the 3D Imax. I think having an HD experience with this movie would be more fulfilling. Don't know if IMax has a non3D version which would be the first thing I'd drop.

I choked up several times during Avatar not only from the beauty of the animation but the emotional level it registered on. It sparked my imagination like I haven't felt since I was a child.
While movies like Transformers and Iron Man really upped the anti on CGI and special effects it was still apparent that they were graphics inserted into the live action film. With Avatar it's completely the opposite and it's done so seamlessly that you really can't tell where the reality ends and the virtual begins.
The storyline was OK. It was basically Fern Gully in space. The acting was superb all around especially Neytiri played by Zoe Saldana. Her animated character gives easily one of the best female performances of the year.
