I expected the IMAX to be a lot larger. It's just a normal movie screen only concave.
The effects with the Avatars were terrific. The movie is worth seeing just for that. This story could definitely have been told in 2 hours. It really seemed to drag on.

Traveled over 110 mile round trip to see this in Imax format for our first time. Cannot even begin to explain how well done this movie was and how suprised I was at the incredible story to go along with the stunning visual experience. I am ready to turn around for seconds.

We traveled 85 miles to see this in an IMAX 3D venue. It was well worth it. We were all blown away. This format will certainly catch on. The special effects were unbelievable.

Sat at the edge of my seat the entire movie. Amazing special effects, great story line, creative & unique characters & setting. I was emotionally charged throughout the film and can't stop thinking about the movie. Fell in love with the Avatarians and their way of "connecting" with nature and their environment. Would recommend this to everyone except kids under 12.

This movie in Imax 3D is worth seeing, although it makes my head hurt. The computer generated images are terrific. But the plot line is tired and ridiculous. Imagine guys armed with bow and arrow, astride friendly dragons, knocking down armored helicopters equipped with major fire power. I'd much rather watch Casablanca or My Cousin Vinny for the 10th time.

Plot was so-so...Dances with Wolves meets another planet, but the visuals were simply stunning. The 3-D was so seamless that it was completely immersive....you were part of this movie. It looked like an HD National Geographic film it was so real. Scratch that...it looked like you were on an actual National Geographic expedition!

Went to go see a 11:55am showing of Avatar in I-Max 3-D and what should have been a 2hr-40min. long movie, took us 61/2 hrs. to see. After the first 5 minutes, the theater had a major power outage which spanned about a 10 block radius. they didn't get power back until approx. 3:00pm, at which time they were preparing for the 3:30 showing. We decided to go see that showing and we were glad we did. The Movie has a a somewhat predictable story line (but who cares). The Action was GREAT, the special effects were GREAT and the actors were GREAT! This one will definitely go in my movie library!! GO SEE IT!!! you'll be glad you did!

This film is one you DEFINITELY have to see in IMAX 3D to fully appreciate. The landscape and detail of all the creatures on Pandora was beyond imaginative and into the realm of fully creative.
However, to say that James Cameron gets very preachy would be an understatement. It really ruined the ride for me. He decided to give nods to the leftist political idealogies of the Environmentalists and the Hate America crowd and beat us over the heads with it for nearly 3 hours. It was fully disrespectful of the American Armed Forces, and I can guarantee that a good deal of them went to see this.
In summary, if you don't mind another Al Gore lecture, you have to see this as it will visually blow you away.

Excellent action sequences with phenomenal 3-D effects. I don't think I would like this movie as much if it were not in 3-D. The story is just above-average but the real star is the special effects. You can actually see where the $300 million dollars was spent in the attention to detail!

This film Avatar seen in theaters with IMAX three-dimensional system has been the most wonderful event I have experienced in a long time. The visual and sound quality achieved is amazing. This film, which lasts nearly three hours, went for me like the snap of the fingers and then was like waking from an incredible dream.
Thumb up for James Cameron director and writer of this dazzling film.
Definitely I would recommend to my family and friends. My rating for Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience is an A +++

I bought my ticket through MovieTickets.com, but on the way to the theater I had a tire blow out. I survived a high speed blowout, so I didn't sweat it when they told me there is no way to get a refund for a ticket you didn't pick up. Lost $15, kept my life, you know? Unoriginal and predictable plot, but oddly this is a very good movie. Compelling characters, well acted, and great special effects. Good set up for sequels too. A must watch on Imax 3D (and I am a rent on BluRay and watch on home theater person).

I saw this in Imax 3D, and it was wonderful visually. I loved some of the little things like bugs and cinders that seemed to be right in your face. The story was very weak, though, as if they spent 10 minutes on story after 10 years on special effects. Overall, I enjoyed the movie. The technology promises great things to come.

I took my kids to see this in IMAX 3D! Wow!!! This movie was incredible. Non stop action and a very involving story. My 4 year old was quiet and watched the ENTIRE movie. My teenagers could not stop talking about it afterwards to thier friends, not one complaint. Go see this! u have too. It was worth the extra $1 from regular ticket prices. I'm going to see this one again.

I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was the most amazing movie I've ever seen (at my age, that's a lot of movies). There's finally a movie worth getting a Blu-Ray player for. The motion capture process did a great job and made another recent picture that supposedly used the same technology look pretty blah. You know the plot and acting is great when it's a really long movie and no one gets up, talks or even coughs.

EXCELLANT movie. Stunning visuals and a very strong plot despite the harsh critiques. It takes an age old type of story and not only applies the similar themes to a new and futuristic setting, but enhances it a great deal. The plot was not lacking. It was not incredibly complex or full of plot twists, but a very strong plot. The movie also has great underlieing themes and meanings, although it is perfectly enjoyable without even thinking about them. A+++.

Saw this in 3D on a regular screen...loved it....theater broke into applause as credits rolled. Going again, this time in IMAX 3D. It's really worth a second viewing. The CGI effects are immersive environments...like diving into a warm welcoming sea. The colors of the jungle are spectacular....greens...blues....browns.....OMG. Creatures are thunderous and exciting.....surround sound amplifies and highlights this quality. Don't let yourself miss this one. I hope it's only the start of many more like it....and not only Avatar sequels.
