Folks, you've seen this before, and done better. The plot is thin and predictable (not to mention unbelievable). The main character is boorish and mean, and it's hard to see how he would have friends, given the constant put downs. The 4th wall technique did little to endear him to me; it just made him seem pompous. David and Wood give poor performances; Clarkson and Begley shine in their smaller roles. The pacing is off, as the first half of the movie drags.
The good news is: there is some witty dialogue and many good one-liners (ex: "...who mistakes pessimistic despair for wisdom..."; "...elected a black man president, but he still can't hail a cab in NY.").
Sloppy work: look for the boom mike in the hospital scene.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Larry David makes a better Woody Allen character than Woody does. Great with Woody behind the camera. Every character was well cast, too. We laughed the entire time.
Woody is back!

Hilarious! Vintage Woody Allen. Very New York. Larry David and Patricia Clarkson were great.

Seen one Woody Allen movie, you've seen them all.
But I love Larry David and so I wanted to give this a chance. Sorry I did. This was the sort of film that appeared to have once been a play, with stilted speech and not much action. There was even a bad limp that came and went.
Evan Rachel Wood gave one of the worst, most overacted performances I have ever seen. It was almost painful to watch. Patricia Clarkson was fabulous but even that couldn't save the day.
Don't bother with this one, even when it comes out on DVD.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I have always been a Woody Allen fan, yet he sometimes misses completely, in my opinion. This was definitely a big miss. The first 45 minutes were painfully slow, poorly edited and directed, and just not funny at all. The last half hour was better, but hardly worth seeing.
I'll have forgotten this movie by tomorrow morning.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

If you like Woody Allen and you like Larry David then you'll enjoy this movie. Many funny parts, somewhat slow in the middle, excellent finish.
