It was the casting that really made it great, who else could do a better Spock? The background story was true to earlier shows giving it a feeling of building the story line.
Excellent Job.

A great movie for the fan or someone who just wants to see some action. Great affects, story line and cast. IMAX is awesome it's like a huge HD 1080p res TV. I really enjoyed it. Hope you do as well. The screen would be 4 or 5 X the size of a regular movie screen. It also does have a sort of 3D affect.

J.J. Abrams has done the impossible. He's captured the basic feel of the Original Star Trek crew characters while creating a whole new look . In so doing, he's created at fantastic movie that appeals to both hard-core Trekkers like myself, and to newbies like my daughter. While there were a few minor changes in the persona of some characters from the original series, these can be explained by the fact that this is a "prequel", and also by the time altering events in the plot. The action sequences were superb, and well worth extra price to see them in IMAX. I highly recommend this movie to everyone, whether you're a fan of Star Trek or completely new to the series. Well done, J.J. Abrams!

As a long-time fan of the Star Trek TV series and the earlier movies, I was a little skeptical about this "re-cast' version, but it was great. Casting was perfect, the story was entertaining, and the effects were spectacular. It was worth the extra dollars to see it in IMAX. It appears that Star Trek will live long and prosper.

J.J. Abrams has created another masterpiece of cinema in this "prequel". Die hard trekkies should not be disappointed, and if you have somehow managed to live your entire life without knowing anything about Star Trek, you will still be overwhelmingly entertained (even if you don't understand the myriad "inside jokes", just listen to the audience - they'll let you know). The special effects were outstanding, the actors worked very well together, and overall the story was a thrill ride from minute 1. There were a few unexpected surprises - you'll know it when it happens. All in all, a thoroughly entertaining film, correctly rated, and easily worth the ticket price. See it in IMAX if you can!

YOU GOTTA SEE THIS IN IMAX! We are long time trek fans and were blown away. Noticed many mannerisms tying these younger characters to the originals (hairstyles, speech patterns, general swagger). The writing and the jokes were superbly done. The original cast would be proud to be so portrayed. Having Leonard Nimoy inserted was icing on the cake. Looking forward to MANY MORE sequels to follow!! Nicely done.

I consider myself a trekkie and a trekker having watched probably every episode from the original series all the way through Enterprise...
Things that you think you know about the characters and events have been altered but its in the way that they are altered that you must admire how this film gets you to forget about your previous notions and just enjoy one kick-tail ride....
Think about it. This is a new ORIGINAL story with characters we have grown up with and now we get to watch them "grow up" before our eyes. If I say anymore, its already a spoiler alert... JUST WATCH IT... You will not find a better theatrical experience this summer...
I cannot wait for a sequel that will let me pick up from this one.

the chemistry between pine (kirk), quinto (spock), and urban (mccoy) is phenomenal. thanks to the actors, writers, and abrams direction, all of the new trek performances are original while still true to the characters' spirits
w/o being imitations. i will be seeing this again b/f it comes out of boxoffice.

I am a star trek fan from way back, and this was
the most incredible movie experience I could
have hoped for! The characters and relationships are spot on. The only thing I could hope for in a sequel is that they keep
the same creative team. Don't change a thing! You are so on the right track (trek)! The IMAX
experience is the greatest.

I have to say, wow. Great movie all around. The acting, directing, writing, special effects and action sequences are all amazing.
On top of it's stand-alone qualities, the movie was also excellent in the fact that the actors were brilliantly chosen and prepped to play their characters from the original TV series. The film felt like Star Trek through and through, but better.

The Best Trek Yet. I grew up as a trekie. I like every part of this movie. From the way they showed us how Pike ended up in the wheel chair. To Sulu's one time look in the fight scene that made me think of George Tikei. To the change in Trek reality.
I really look foward to see how, with Spock Prime around, He will know time and events of things that may still be coming. How will he effect the changes. Will he try to change results of past (pre) events.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I've seen it twice now. Once in a regular theater the day it came out and the second time in the Imax theater. I enjoyed it most in the Imax theater...the details you could see compared to the original theater version were incredible. From the metal paneling on the Enterprise to the S on the salt shaker Enterprise (you could even see the salt as it came out)
To whoever posted that the volume was too loud (although they'll probably never read this) You went to an Imax film...they use real speakers not those cheap speakers that other theaters use to 'get the job done' What did you expect? Personally I thought the volume was appropriate for the size of the theater and I wasn't covering my ears.

What made Star Trek so enduring a series was its format of presenting the worst of today's problems in the framework of tomorrow - and showing that those problems could be solved, or at least a lesson learned from them. This Star Trek film has a few small gestures along that line to provide some linkage to the old series, but the main plot is simply an excuse for cartoon-like action. Several scenes are sight gags right out of "Galaxy Quest". Until Trek franchise owners get back to the original formula, this series is stalled. We have more than enough real world problems for Star Trek to analyze and solve. Inspire us. Please. Show us the way. Let "X-Men" provide the "Bash-em/Blast-em" entertainment element.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I went to the theater, fully expecting to be disappointed, but I left overjoyed and panting for the next movie! There was enough to satisfy an old trekker like me, yet with the alternate timeline, they can truly go anywhere.
Urban's "Bones" was amazing!!! Pine grew into THE Kirk we know. Quinto's Spock was awesome. No Seylar here! In profile he even looks like young Nimoy. I loved what Yelchin did with Checkov. His doing announcements was a hoot!
However... Cho's Sulu was almost a nonentity. Pegg's Scotty was WRONG! And Uhura was WAAAYY too good looking. And her and Spock? Fascinating...
It was wonderful to see Nimoy again, perhaps for the last time. (He is almost 80, OLD for a human.)

I was a little sketipcial on Star Trek trying to revive Captain Kirk and starting from his youth and retelling the story. I was confused for the first half of the movie as a lot of the information was in conflict with the origional series. Then with a Vulcan mind meld, it all came together. With the changing of history by the Romulin vessel, all things came together and there is a promise for a brand new series of movies.
Whill JJ is no Shatner, he played the character well and I look forward to more voyages and maybe they should think about using this cast to revive Kirk all over again on the small screen?
If you get a chance to see it, trekkie or not, I highly recommend it.

I have to admit I was a little sceptical about going to see this movie at first. I thought it would be a lot of re-hash of the Kirk-Spock-McCoy story line from original series and previous movies. I have to admit that I was very pleasently surprised! Without giving too much away about the movie, the writers and J.J. Abrams have given Star Trek a fresh new start and direction! It will be very interesting where they take the new storyline from here! I look forward to the next movie!!! (Also, if you have the chance, see it in IMAX! It is worth the couple of extra dollars for the experience!)

First things first: I am not a big Star Trek Fan - I never really watched the show, etc. However, I MUST say that this movie is amazing - i love the look of the movie. Yes, it is in the future, but it isn't so far-fetched that it doesn't look recognizable. The visual style of the movie allows you to fully immerse yourself because it looks familiar - we aren't talking CGI here.
EXCELLENT MOVIE - will definitely go see again in IMAX.

I loast track of time watching this movie. As a long time Trek fan what excites me most is this film realy did "reboot" the series. Excellent! Best film I have seen since Usual Suspects.

This was an action packed, hi tech, creative, and interesting achievement in movie making. In many ways, true to themes and characters from classic Trek, this movie is a high octane telling of events (earlier in the Trek time line) leading to the assembly of the crew we all love and *think* we know from Star Trek. This movie puts it all together, and what a thrill ride it is!
