What made Star Trek so enduring a series was its format of presenting the worst of today's problems in the framework of tomorrow - and showing that those problems could be solved, or at least a lesson learned from them. This Star Trek film has a few small gestures along that line to provide some linkage to the old series, but the main plot is simply an excuse for cartoon-like action. Several scenes are sight gags right out of "Galaxy Quest". Until Trek franchise owners get back to the original formula, this series is stalled. We have more than enough real world problems for Star Trek to analyze and solve. Inspire us. Please. Show us the way. Let "X-Men" provide the "Bash-em/Blast-em" entertainment element.
