OK. well let me first say that the movie preview led you to expect more than the movie delivered. The overall movie was good but not great. It was slow and the ending could've been better. The best part was the last thrity minutes. It was hard to see Toby in this character due to his body build and he didn't look right in the part. I wasn't disappointed but I was expecting more. It definitely moved me in thinking about our troops and what they go through every day. This and the story line was the best part of the moie. Enjoy

I thougth the movie was well written. The two little girls in the movie brought warmth and humor and were a treat to watch. The story is powerful and sad. Toby and Natalie's characters should have been fleshed out a little more as a couple. Overall, I think it makes you think about soldiers and the horrific things they go through and then have to come back and try to deal with life.

i would rather listen to a lenny kravitz cd than see this movie. this movie was awful, one of my friends left and watched mr. fox it was so bad. didnt make any sense toby maguire...is so awful and should quit acting...dont see this unless u want to be bored to death for 2 hours, the previews and the popcorn were the best part of this brothers experience

This film was well acted and written. The little girls are absolute geniuses and the most memorable for me. The four stars are for the story itself, and when observed individually the actors acted very well. What it lacked was chemistry between the brothers and family. Tobey Maguire was isolated and not very well connected to the other actors, chemistry-wise. The two daughters had the most charisma, and surprisingly the connection between Natalie & Jake's characters was more believable than Tobey's character with her. It was a quietly entertaining film, and very different from what I expected from the previews. Not as gut-wrenching as we anticipated, but still a well put together film. It's a great 'grown folks' drama.

TOBEY, JAKE, AND NATALIE WERE AMAZING AND I WOULDN'T HAVE CHOSEN ANYBODY ELSE TO PLAY THE PARTS! The previews for the movie made the movie seem more than what it really is. The movie was GREAT, but the ending left you wondering. This movie definitely makes you appreciate our soldiers. If you have a heart you will probably cry throughout the movie.

Brothers is an emotional story of a family ripped apart by war. Well written, and great acting. When you come into a movie feeling a certain way, and leave feeling completely different the movie has done its job. You feel what they feel. This movie is for 'serious moviegoers'. This movie was a bit of a suprise. The trailer does not do the story justice. If you are ecpecting fast paced action then this is not a movie for you. This is an actual movie with an actual story. I loved it! Toby's tranformation in this movie is amazing, he has blossomed in to a real actor one that does not have to depend on special effects to hold your interest in the movie. Jake played a very different character then he usually does and he did it well. Natalie would not have been my first choice for the wife, she does a lot of sad puppy dog face and crying not a lot of acting on her part. There are many very moving scenes in the movie, if you have a heart bring a hanky it will make you cry.

This dark movie brings the viewer through a moment in the lives of the characters. Mention is made of their lives before the story and how they became the people they are, but the writers avoided the urge to overplay the back story. This gave the movie a here and now quality that was played out beautifully by the cast. Maguire's character undergoes a spectacular metamorphosis played out in his eyes. More subtle but equally important changes played by Portman and Gyllenhaal were not over done and well supported by the older cast members. The kids were just great. Go see this film

I read the reviews before seeing this movie and was skeptical to watch. But after seeing it i was happy that i went knowing that the actors would make this a great movie. Toby Maguire was fantastic in his role. The ending was realistic and I enjoyed but i can understand how others may have thought it was forced or left the plot unresolved. Overall Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire, and Jake Gyllenhaal make this definitely worth seeing.

When a movie is 5 minutes old and you know most of the plot line...it's not going to be a good evening. Even Maguire's capture (that came later) just added a couple of obvious twists. I went to see this movie because it got good reviews, and because I wanted to see something with substance. While Brothers had it's wholesome moments, I feel like it took too long for the ball to drop. The movie spends too much time focusing on what's happening to Maguire's character in Iraq vs. what's happening back home in his absence, and not enough time on what happens upon his return. They discover he's alive. Next thing you know, the movie's over. Even the ending left me wanting.

Great movie. Not what I thought was gonna happen. But the ending was terrible.

This movie had an interesting plot and there was some very good acting in it. I loved to watch the two child actors who played the children of Portman's character. The one negative thing about this movie is the ending, it just sucks.

The highlight of the movie is the actors - they all put in great performances using the weak scrpit. The movie uses too many cliches and counts on those to make us care about the characters. What I did like is that the movie shows the huge impact war can have on soldiers and their families. Big props to Tobey Maguire for his performance. Jake Gyllenhaal is funny (and really hot girls); unforunately Natalie Portman doesnt have much of a role to work with but she's crazy good as usual.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This movie had great actors and they did an amazing job with what they had. That being said...I have no Idea what the other reviewers are talking about. Up until the HORRIBLE ending, Brothers was completely predictable. Both my date and I (not to mention the people all around me) exclaimed, "What?! That's it?!" I didn't witness one happy movie-goer in my general area. I grasp the anti-war, pro-soldier message they were trying to get out, but they seemed to of done it in a hurry. If it wasn't for the great cast I'd say skip it altogether.
