Saw it, loved it, picked it to win the Oscars and won our office pool with all the picks and wins I had for Slumdog. The story is so heartfelt that it's hard to not fall in love with these characters. The soundtrack is great and really helps tie it all together. If you haven't seen it yet, go now!!!

After watching the Academy Awards I decided I just had to see this movie, it sounded very different and the story intrigued me. I wasn't disappointed. The scenes of the slums of India were very realistic and shocking, making one realize how some others in our world live and survive on a daily basis. The children are so exploited and abused and the trash and filth they live in is inconceiveable to those of us with clean houses and indoor plumbing. I liked the format of the movie, going from past to present, etc. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone else, but the ending is somewhat a surprise, and all I can say is, there is so much more than money that is important in life.

Loved this movie - saw it twice. It's hard to watch the brutality and the lack of respect for people as human beings. However, the story is so compelling and each character is believable. You never doubt Jamal's love for Latika and you know that him being with her is worth more than all the money in the world. Totally deserved all the awards it's received.

The movie was very good. It gave you an insight into India. Not sure, I would have voted it the best movie of the year, as the Academy Awards did so. It is a movie everyone should see and just enjoy the story line and the acting, especially of the little kids.

I've seen this mentioned - I was expecting a masterpiece because of all the hype. The movie was good, but did live up to what I expected. The audience knows nothing about Latika's story or why the main character loves her so much. The phone a friend scene was...- a little too much. Overall though, the movie was good, but in the end a typical predictable love story

Seen this film twice now. First time was before all the hype and I loved it then. It's even better the second time around, you pick up on little extras early on in the film which are referenced much later. It's not essential to watch it twice but you get something new out of it both times.
The concept of linking a persons life through a game show is excellent and there are some magical touches.
In answer to some of the other reviews. Latika goes into the room with Salim because she's willing to essentially be raped to save a drunk Salim from shooting Jamal. I'd happily watch it again.

With the hype, the raves, the awards... I was expecting a masterpiece. On the one hand, the look at Mumbai's underbelly, the kids, the music and the camera work were excellent. On the other, all the characters are one-dimensional and the script is mediocre. The part of Latika has to be the worst female role in a long time. You never find out who she really is, or why exactly Jamal loves her so. She did shut the door in his face to be with his brother but then she's the only girl he has ever met. The story is not believable, as it is made up of a string of coincidences; this would be fine if the movie was presented as a fairy tale, but it looks as if it tries to be realistic. This is not a comedy by any stretch.

This was a great movie, as recommended by so many to me before I went. I would say that the first 20-30 minutes was really hard to sit through for me. I did feel like those who had recommended it had left that out, the terrible discomfort of watching the horror that these tiny children were subjected to. It was so realistic, and because it represents reality, it's not "just a movie". The music was excellent and the actors, especially the children, were amazing.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is the first movie I've gone to see twice in years! Every aspect of this film is well done. Beautiful visually, well-acted, suspenseful.
An amazing film.
I've been to Mumbai (when it was still Bombay) and the visuals are true to life.
