This is a heart-wrenching account of the courage it took for Jews to remain alive during the Holocaust. I was glued to my seat and did not move for the entire 2+ hours. The acting was superb and the story-line was compelling. I believe the Jews say "always remember", but it is important for everyone to remember and to be aware of the level of absolute cruelty that is possible in man. The only thing I wondered about during the movie was whether or not it should have used sub-titles for the entire movie. Go see this movie!!!
I really enjoyed this movie, and was amazed by the special effects that allowed Brad Pitt to get younger and younger. The theme of grabbing life's choices while they are there is very meaningful. However, I also agree with those who feel the movie is too long - I found it quite slow for the first 1/2 hour, and while it picked up after that, making it a 2:15 run time movie would definitely have improved it.
This was an amazing movie! Ernie Banks offers a lesson for all of us about the importance of character in dealing with life's challenges. I grew up in NJ in the 50s and 60s - there was racism there, but nothing like what was going on in the south. Those scenes were hard to watch, but it's important for us to remember how awful hate can be, and how people will act, as well as the courage it takes for an individual to move beyond the hate. I highly recommend this movie, but I would not bring pre-teens - I feel like it's too intense. I think teenagers could benefit highly from the lessons in the movie.
