This was without a doubt the absolute worse movie I've ever seen. Most of it is not in English so you must read the subtitles. None of the scenes transition to the next or blend with the next. It is terribly disjointed. I could not get a sense as to what this movie was about. I left halfway through. Don't waste your money!!

Beautifully brutal, this film is hard to watch, mesmerizing, artfully filmed and wonderfully acted. You learn about some of life in India, hope, persistence, the road not taken and faith. It is so well crafted, edited and intricately woven that you will want to see it more than once. I have seen it three times and I don't remember a film that I have done so for before. Just see it as soon as you can.

This is indeed a unique, unpredictable movie, and one of the best I've seen recently. The actors, including the children, gave real, believable performances that draw you in. The premise, the plot, the ending...all unique. That said, I highly recommended this film, with one warning. The film can be raw, and in several places the disregard for human life and the treatment of children and adults to acheive an end in this society, can be hard to watch. Not for the squeamish.

This film wins on so many different levels. Its all about the underdogs having a chance in life. Its a great love story. Rags-to-riches, good-vs.evil, oppressors and the oppressed, compelling human emotions, exotic foreign locations, old world bumping into the future.....and bottom line, what a great friggin' story.

I've seen some reviews complaining about the cliches in this movie, and also some chat about it being "poverty porn." Yes, elements of the story are familiar. No, it is not a "message movie" that will "teach you something." But I for one am pretty willing to enjoy a movie in which love conquers. I go to the movies for entertainment, and was thoroughly entertained by "Slumdog Millionaire." It was sad, scary, funny, romantic, suspenseful. The visuals are beautiful, the music is irresistible, and the performances are terrific.

I give Slumdog Millionaire high rating due to how well crafted and clever it is. This movie educates one about the country of India, its people, technology, and community. The movie gives rise to the realization that the greed the US has succumbed to is shameful. Slumdog Millionaire was very captivating. It had everything - a love story, suspense, violence, intrigue, cultural study. Some of the violence was hard to watch, but it was not gratuitous, it was necessary for the story. One would have to be living in a bubble to not know there are problems with poverty, violence, abuse, corporation and hate that dominate life in any number of countries. After sitting through 45 minutes of this movie I understood why so many Indians were highly offended by the depiction of the country and it's people presented in this movie.
I don't care that the movie has a happy ending, reality doesn't have a happy ending. But the fact that director Danny Boyle capitalized on the worse aspects of the society is insulting to the country and it's people. When the people in the theatre at the showing I attended found the scene where Jamal falls into the cesspool hysterically funny I knew that it was downhill from there on. .

I wasn't pulled to see the movie from its trailer or synopsis, nor, from what others said. However, when my son's friends (age 16 and 17) and Americans, told him that they saw it and they loved it, it raised my curiosity. Because if a Foreign movie appeals to American teens, then something was done right.
Thus, I saw it, and it was a great movie, to my surprise, because I thought it will be just another Indian Movie with lots of unexpected dancing and tons of misunderstanding, etc. However, it was more real, very creative directing that it took us to three different time frames, giving us the past, the present and a glimpse of the future of the character. And great actors of all the ages.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie was fabulous! The way the story was told was unique and captivating, and the details were scarily accurate. The deep sadness in the movie gives way to the happy ending and it was overall one of the best movies i've seen in a while.
