The epic battle between light, "The Dark Knight" and dark, "The Joker" is played to such fevered pitches then brought back to a semblance of what normal would appear to be, had chaos not shattered it. The delicate dance between dark and light is brilliantly depicted by "The Joker" hanking upside down during a moment of sanity, telling "Batman" how one would not be wothout out the other.
The "Joker" hanging upside down lecturing an upright "Batman" is the most powerful use of verdal and visual continuity. I might be off base, however, I saw the Ying and Yang!

This movie far exceeded my expectations for a sequel. In many ways surpassed Batman Begins. The fight scenes for one are better than the first. Actually being able to see Batman's brutal style made the movie better. Heath Ledger also lived up to his billing. Some of his mannerisms made me wonder but he was dark and sinister. The video clips of him laughing, he got it bone chillingly right. I was a little disappointed we didn't get more of Two Face, but as a whole this movie was terrific and I can't wait to see what they will come up for the third movie.

The Dark Knight is one of the best action films I've seen in several years.
(Beforehand, I wondered if it would live up to the hype, and I was even prepared to be a bit disappointed. )
Batman Begins was good, but this film exceeds the first one in several ways.
I normally prefer to go to movies in smaller locations, and only once. For The Dark Knight, though--try to see this in IMAX if you can. I'll be going back next week to experience it again.

The hype surrounding The Dark Knight had my expectations at an all-time high, and yet it proceeded to exceed those expectations throughout every breath-taking, twisted minute. The film is a masterpiece, with it's centerpiece being the vile genius that is the Joker, as portrayed by Heath Ledger. If both The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger aren't AT LEAST nominated for Best Picture/Actor at the Academy Awards, it would be an injustice to both. By far, the best comic book-based movie of all-time, as well as one of the best films, in general, ever to be made.

Top notch movie from begginning to end. Heath Ledger should get an Oscar for the Joker. The supporting cast was great. Morgan Freeman was as good as ever. The ending made me feel like I wanted to see What happens next.

Mr. Ledger & Mr. Bale are puuuuuuuurrfect. The story line was great... the acting was superb. It was sad to know that this movie drove Heath to his accidental death but I can see how that could have been possible. He truly embodied the Joker. One of his best performances!!

I'm not a big fan of comic books, Batman - never saw Spiderman. I tried to get my family to see Mama Mia with me and must admit, when I was outvoted, we sat in the IMAX to see Dark Knight and I was pouting. I didn't expect to be "wowed" by this film, but I was - in every respect.
Not only did Heath Ledger deliver a stand-up performance, but so did Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and the rest of the cast. I was not particularly fond of the female lead role, but then again I expected better acting from her, thus the near perfect (but not perfect) rating.
A line in the film gives hints to the next Batman villain - we think it's going to be Catwoman since an odd line was delivered about Batman's redesigned suit not able to fend off dogs, but does defent against cats. Hmmm.. at the time, we thought "Weird line", but then you realize that they left hints through the movie as to what's next.
Not sure who I'd like to see play Catwoman, but I know I'd like to see Steve Beschemi play the Riddler!

The first superhero movie in a long time that actually doesn't feel like a superhero movie. It's the first summer blockbuster in a long time that has achieved a great balance between action and character/story development. It's a pretty dark movie, but it is not bloody or profane either, which is a plus. And Heath Ledger gives a performance that makes you laugh, but at the same time, because of how sadistic and pyschopathic he is, makes you kind of hate yourself for doing so. I have the utmost respect for the director Christopher Nolan.

Definitely the best movie of the summer thus far; great story, acting, action, effects. Improves upon the characters of Batman Begins (which was already a terrific film). The sound at the IMAX was more impressive than the visuals. Stunning clarity and throbbing bass. My seat shook throughout the film.
On a screen this large, and sitting close you could see all too often when things were out of focus. For example, in the interrogation room, Batman is always crisp, but the Joker is often way out of focus. I don't think it was intentional.
Solid sequels are rare and this is one of them.

"And here we go..." Says the Joker as he reaks havic on Gotham City and its citizens. So much can be said about Heath Ledger and his unique take on the Joker. He was smart, funny, and especially errie! I have read the comic and he has to be the closest to any vision of the Joker that anyone has played. Although the movie is called The Dark Night, there is so much more to it than Batman. This is a crime drama, not so much an action adventure film. Christopher and Jonathan Nolan truely made what could be the most realistic "superhero" movie. There are 3 sides to this movie; we obviously have Batman's side, then there are the police/politicians, and then the mob bosses. Notice how the Joker isn't on any of them! The whole movie your sitting there saying "where is he going to be next???" because you truely do not know! He is a true terrorist. He does not care about anyone, he is an "wild hungry dog" that wants chaos. He is also scary because you dont know his origin. In the 1989 version you knew how he became the Joker which made him cooler and funnier. Ledger's Joker is down right creepy! Then theres Batman who is always taking the beating while trying to live as Bruce Wayne. Bale does a good job as always although he could use a little less emphasis on the raspy voice he does when he has the suit on. There were times where i really wanted to take him seriously but his voice almost made me laugh. Dont get me wrong, he still does a great job being my all time hero but when they make the next movie i hope he tones that down. The surprise was Harvey Dent Played by Aaron Eckhart. He was caring and an all around good person and he acctually made me "believe in Harvey Dent". Knowing what would eventually happen to him makes me even more sad to see how it happens. The movie begins with the excitment of seeing Batman but in the end you realize how much more of a symbol he is rather than a hero. After seeing it twice i find that there is so much more to this movie than good verses evil. Its about perspective and what we need instead of what we want as people. All in all it is an excellent movie and i recommend that every person and there mother watches it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I went into the "New" Batman series somewhat skeptical, I must admit. I saw the "Batman Begins" and was somewhat impressed and looked forward to what would come next, but I was ill prepared for what I received. Heath Ledger was amazing, it is hard to believe that he starred in his previous roles and was able to absorb such a role as this. The cast in it's entirety is perfect, I could not imagine another actor playing any of these roles. The director gives us more insight into just how "The Batman" becomes the most hated hero. I would recommend this to everyone, fan of Batman or not. My only gripe is a slight contradiction to my previous comment of the cast, The character playing Rachel was a bit less than what I would expect from the rest of the cast, but maybe I am just spoiled by the superstars that litter the rest of the movie. If you are a fan of the series this will quickly become one of your favorite movies ever, in my humble opinion. I enjoyed the insight into the soul of the characters and am certainly excited to see what comes next.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It is a rare and exceptional thing, these days, to witness a film or other work of art or entertainment that actually lives up to the hype that is manufactured in order to promote it. More often than not, films are panned by critics and audiences alike when they fail to be as amazing as they are promised to be.
I tried not to set the bar too high for The Dark Knight, for precisely this reason. I didn't want to be disappointed because it was a good film, instead of a great one. I was, however, unable to resist getting caught up in the marketing mania, viral campaign, and even the alternate reality game. By the time I had pre-ordered my IMAX ticket online, I could hardly wait to see the film, and the night before going to the theatre felt like the night before Christmas does when you are still young.
Yet, with all of my expectations set to "11", The Dark Knight still managed to blow me away. The cast performs fantastically, and Nolan directs the action with a frenetic energy that Batman Begins (while still a good film) seemed to lack at times.
I suppose it is obligatory to mention Heath Ledger, but even if his tragic death had not occured, I would be heaping praise upon his performance as the Joker. I was skeptical at first, but as I began to see trailer and "sneak peek" footage of the film, I came around. I can say now that this is without a doubt not only a masterful performance, but the greatest rendition of the clown prince of crime that is ever likely to be seen.
Ledger is so charismatic as the Joker... I have never been so tempted to root for the villain.

The movie had several instances when you thought it was over and left you wanting more. Thankfully it did.
