I went in to view the movie without any preconceived notions because we all know that the book is always better than the movies. However, I was completely and totally shocked when I realized that this movie was completely DAZZLING! It was gripping (even though you knew what was going to happen), real (set for todays world) and humorous (read Sarcastic)! I was pleasantly surprised about the last part. I don't want to give anything away for those of you who have not seen it so let's just say you will be awed by what Catherine Hardwicke and Melissa Rosenberg have pulled off!

The movie was very good and very loyal to the book in quotes and sequence. The actors did a good job of becoming their characters and showing chemistry where appropriate. My only complaints are that some of the lines are cheesy, the special effects could improve, and the climax could have been built more believably. But somehow even the flaws work with the story and add to its charm. If you liked the book, you will like the movie, as long as you don't go into it expecting every little detail to be included. And if you haven't read the book, the movie is easy to follow and will show you a glimpse of another world, leaving you wanting to know more.

I loved all the character choices EXCEPT Bella & Edward. Sorry - just didn't like them much. Edward was played wayyyyy too soft emotionally. He always seemed like he was on the edge of tears. The silent moments between Bella & Edward (of which there were a ton) should have felt sexually/emotionally tense. Not so much - AWKWARD was about it. Oh, and Charlie came across as cold rather than just clueless about teenage girls. Other than that - I enjoyed all the other folks - James was major icky... Laurent... awesome choice. Alice - so on...I just wish there had been better acting for the 2 major characters. They looked the part, just didn't act it...

Thankfully, the plot in the movie closely followed the book. Unfortunately, I thought the actors needed some acting lessons. All the vampires consistently seemed to be "acting". I could never get lost in the story the way I did in the book because the acting was so distracting.

I have seen Twilight twice, and after the second viewing I have decided that I am happy with the adaptation. A movie can never be exactly like the book, but this movie is very faithful to the book and can stand as its own work. I did not enjoy the first viewing as much as the second because I spent the first viewing comparing/contrasting the book and movie. During the second viewing, I was able to sit back and enjoy the movie on it's own merits. Are there flaws? Of course. Some of the facial expressions are unintentionally hilarious, and there is a major problem with the ending, but overall, I enjoyed the movie and will probably go see it again.

I am a huge fan of the books but i must say the movie left me a bit disappointed. They changed a lot of things from the book. The effects were kind of corny and i think that Edward and Bella's romance wasnt portrayed the way the book did!!!! I expected so much more!! :(

When you consider the low budget of this film, and how difficult it is to condense a book into a film, I thought overall this movie was great. It was fun and exciting even for those who have not read the book. Of course the book is better-they always are.
I went on opening night with about 20 people who had read the book and there was lots of clapping, screaming, swooning, and energy in the theater. I went back for a matinee the next day (with a much quieter audience) with my husband and his parents (who had not read the books) and they enjoyed it too. My husband now actually wants to read the series! I look forward to the other films.

This is a story about a confused and lonely teenager willing to forfeit her mortality/health for someone truly unattainable. One needs to wonder where her submissive co-dependency would lead if she had met a heroin addict or mobster. It's a prime example of how a "cool" kid can be so fragile and void of any solid, lifelong principles.

I felt like the book I read was being taken right out of my head and put on the big screen! They stayed true to the book in all but a few spots. I loved the fact that the words and actions were so closley taken from the book. Those who don't read the book first may come away less satisfied but if you have the book behind the movie it is AMAZING. Loved it ... and I will see it again before long. If they opened the 2nd movie in a week it would be to long to wait! Keep them coming !! I cannot wait for book 2 to come out !

I took my daughter to see this movie as she has read all the books. I had not read any of the books but was very pleasantly surprised at how great the movie was. Not I've started reading the books which are great! I hope to see it again before it leaves the theatres and will buy it on DVD.

I was rather disappointed. I am a fanatic about the books. I was disappointed that a lot of the story line strayed so far from the original text. I think there was crucial information omitted. As a fan I kind of feel like I have been sold out for box office draw & mass marketability. The fans would have paid anything (several times over) to see a better interpretation. It was cute in places, I feel it lacked the intensity & alot of the funny stuff was left out or replaced/re-written. There were long stretches of scenery that could have been better used to give us more dialog & context. I liked the actors, direction & arty feel to the film, I was disappointed in the scripting. My freinds who hadn't read the book liked it. :)

My daughter bought and read all 4 of these books in a week and a half so I knew there had to be something intriguing about this Twilight series and that is exactly what the movie was. Intriguing, interesting, fun, funny, and so passionate. Even I, was drawn in by Edward and I am twice his age! I would and have recommended this movie to everyone and as a mom, was pleased that they did not go overboard with the passionate moments. And I loved the fact that the "could have been violent & bloody scenes" weren't. They left that for your imagination and that was great! Loved it and cannot wait to see the rest of these movies!

This movie was almost as good as reading the book! I loved how Edward's and Jasper's facial expressions explained exactly how they were feeling and what they were thinking. I loved how they gave Edward a Chicago accent; props to Robert Pattinson, who's actually British! They embellished a little for the sake of being interesting for those few that haven't read the books, but I think those embellishments meshed well with the story as a whole. All in all, very good movie, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, whether they've read the book or not.

I thought they took all the boring parts out of buffy and angel and put it into this movie. I think a vampire needs a better reason to be good than just trying really hard. They didnt uphold true to the vampire legends. Angel held true to a vampire. He fell in love because he was cursed to feel. Vampires arent meant to have feelings except evil. There was no chemistry and little action. Where are the demons? Where's the passion. Buffy and angel would have kicked butt if their movie premiere was on the same night. Unfortunately, i now have to see these 2 sequels. I hope the nex one will blow this out of the water.

I LOVED Twilight! The two hours flew by and left me wanting more! What's amazing is that the movie is loved by the "teens" as well as the "over 40" crowd. My husband hadn't read the book (I had) and he loved the movie, too. After the show, he was asking all these questions about the backstory. Great film!

This movie was extraordinary. I am 32 and read all of the books in a week. They were addictive, and the movie gives a great overview of the emotions that were so overwhelming in the book. I do wish that they had delved deeper into the characters and given the non readers a better idea of what the book delivered to the rest of us. I hope that they will extend the length of the 2nd and 3rd movies to allow more exploration of the characters. This is a must see if you are between the age of 12 and 50. Beautifully cast and marvelously directed.

Twilight and Hardwick were a bad mix. Her style of intense glares, odd camera angles and close-ups where you could count nose hairs and eyelashes (& Rob Pattinson’s vampire contacts) was horrible. As for the acting, it was pretty good—unless you figure in Stewart. She played lovestruck Bella w/near heart attack hyperventilating every time she got near Edward. (The final hospital scene bordered on imbecilic with her panting and stuttering.) If it wasn’t for the rest of the well-cast characters, she would’ve ruined the movie. Strangely, I enjoyed it. Not sure if that’s b/c I’m a fan series, or if I genuinely liked the movie. I’m still trying to figure that out. Bottom line, the tween audience will love it, if not, you might want to pass.

This movie was right on target with the book. Anyone who loves the series will adore this for its textual and visual accuracy. It is true that the special effects are below par and the acting (and some moments NOT all) is somewhat amateur, however it is still emensely watchable.

The movie did not captivate the true emotions you feel in the book. But it was good. I really like Kristen as Bella. Rob played a great Edward, considering all the emotions he needed to portray. I am looking forward to the next movie and hope they can be more detailed in the characters emotional connections.

I really enjoyed the movie, however the casting came up a little short. Bella was cast perfectly. Edward ( have you heard of a personal trainer?) should have been more buff. But his acting was great and made it enjoyable. The worst casting was Rosalie and Carlyle. Hello they were suppose to be blonde and the most beautiful. THAT was a huge dissappointment.
But I look forward to the rest of the series. The books are my favorite.

I absolutely loved this movie. It was sexy, funny, a little scary, but mostly just an intense love story. I saw it Saturday night and I plan on going to see it a few more times. I am totally obsessed with this Twilight series. I am already on the fourth book in just one months time.
I just can't get enough of Edward Cullen.
