How do you turn a 498 page book into a 2 hour movie? How do you satisfy millions of fans with ridiculous expectations? No easy task, but having just recently entered the "Twilight" zone by reading all 4 books back to back, the movie was a great way to keep the fun going! Relax and enjoy. I am going to see it again!

I'm obsessed with Twilight. It is amazing. Over the past few weeks before Twilight came out, I started thinking the movie and book as two different things. The movie was good. Lots of close-ups on the faces. Very much like a documentary I guess. But, the movie lacked a lot from the book. It's like the took the important scenes and cut them down a lot. The movie doesn't give the full effect of how dangerous vampires are. Of course, you see the speed and strength they have during the baseball scene, the ballet studio scene, and when Edward[Robert Pattison] takes Bella[Kristen Stewart] up in the trees. This movie was very much focused on Edward a lot and how Bella felt Edward was acting towards her

So I absolutely loved the books, and was excited that the movie was out even thought it was obviously aimed at a younger generation. Don't get me wrong the book is a young adult genre, but the movie really dumbed everything down. The acting and the effects were awful, and I wasn't really expecting much to come out of it anyway. I would definitely not recommend this to someone who has not read the books as it will probably not encourage anyone to actually pick it up and read it, and those who are fans probably have already seen it and are going to see it no matter what anyone says ;-)

I laughed until I cried--and this was not comedy. Loaded with melodrama and wooden acting. At times it took on the feel of a paraody with the excessive amount of long brooding gazes. I guess you had to read the books to not find this overdone and silly. I have two teenage daughters--one who read the book and one who didn't. And they both laughed with me at the movie's silliness.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Yes, it is helpful to read the book first or you won't understand some parts as well but you will get the movie. I saw it last night (i'm 32) and I was screaming worse than the teenagers in there. The cast was perfect (except Rosalie....I thought they could have done better). Bella was perfect and Jacob was so cute. The story line did go fast but I felt that it had to inorder to get the entire story in. I wouldn't mind you slowing it down and letting the movie take three hours, but that is because I love Twilight. I plan on buying it when it comes out and watching it over and over and over. Congratulations Stephanie!!! (By the way, I saw you in the diner)

You'll like it if you've read the book. If not, maybe not so much. You can tell that they had a low budget, but they were very true to the book. A good adaptation.

i must admit that im totally obsessed with twilight, so i expected a lot from this movie. but when i saw it yesterday i got a little disappointed. they left so many important parts out. but all in all it was actually a really good movie, but u have to read the book first, so u can get whats going on.
it was funny though, we laughed a lot.
but i think kristen stewart can't act. it seemed like she is bored or doesn't wanna be there the whole time...
anyway, it was a good movie, although i expected more, but how can u turn a 500 page book into a 2 hour movie? it is not possible.

Overall the movie is worth seeing. I agree with previous reviewers that it is helpful to read the book prior to seeing the movie. The director took some license with the book. The central characters outside of Bella and Edward were not nearly developed enough. Alice and Jasper are very central to all the stories and yet you learn very little about these two outside the fact that they are part of the Cullen family. In addition, we do not learn anything about Carlyle's past, this too will be important if there are sequels to this movie in store. I realize that this would have lengthened the movie, but fans would gladly sit through an additional 30 to 45 minutes if that is what it takes to keep the movie true to these wonderful books.

I'm a recent fan of the book series and have been eagerly awaiting this movie release. I was pretty disappointed. Although I think it was cast well, there was a definite cheesiness about it...most of the time it felt like a music video, or episode of Smallville. If you've read the book, you'll get more out of it but it won't live up to your expectations (unless you're 14). If you haven't read the book, you'll wonder why in the world there's been so much hype. The small budget didn't help matters with the laughable special effects. I think it has potential for the sequels, but overall it was just so-so.

Of course the book was better, when is that ever not true? It seemed like every scene was very rushed. I would have rather sat in the theater longer for more details. Even though the scenes where short they derived from the book. I went in the movie with the understanding that it was low budget. I was worried that the leaping from tree to tree was going to be as cheesy as the 80's superman, but it wasn't that bad. Ultimately I liked it and I can't wait to see the rest of the saga. You know they can only get better. They will definitely have more money next time and with all of the feedback they can be great. Catherine Hardwick seems to want to please the fans, she's great too! I will see this movie again.

As a fan of the twilight series I was impressed at how well the movie went along with the book. I would recommend reading the book/books before seeing the movie as there are certain things that one needs to know in order to follow the movie completely. I hope they continue on with the rest of the books.

I was afraid that maybe Twilight would not live up to the hype. Well, I was not disappointed. It follows the book very well. What I loved most was the palpable chemistry between Edward and Bella. I looked forward to their scenes together the most, which flowed very well. My only upset was the hurried pace of the film at times. It seems to quickly jump through some things in an effort to fit everything in. Overall though, I really liked it and would recommend it. I do think those that read the book series will enjoy it more than those who haven't. It may baffle those who have not read the books. As for me, I'm going to see it again tomorrow!

This movie was amazing!!! I did realize that it would be very confusing for someone who had not read the books. (I have read all of them 4 times haha), The movie is very well done even though they do move through the beginning quickly and skip some non-vital information. They did a very good job of picking the characters... especially EDWARD!!!!! I do wish that they spent more time developing Bella and Edwards relationship though. Overall it is a good movie

Thanks to my daughter, she turned me on to read the full saga... I was a bit of a sceptic at first, but once I finished the first book, I couldn't stop... "It's crack on paper!"
This movie of course is not as detailed as the book, but it sure helped with my own movie in my head... I can agree with some of the viewers that reading the book is the only way you can appreciate some of the "inside" jokes in the movie...
It's really up to you if you want to see the movie first, then read the book or vice versa...
You'll enjoy this story...

I totally love how it came out, but for Bella & Edward could have done better acting. Everyone else was AWESOME!! It was great if you didn't read the books, but it didn't quite follow the book right. I was only disappointed with that. But overall I ould definitely seee it again.

I never read the book and did not miss it to fully enjoy the movie. The cinematography is impressive and adds the poetic element to the movie, the use of special effects did not detract from the story - enhanced it, even the violent scenes were tastefully presented to a sensitive audience - by using sounds and shadows rather than gore to convey it. Only the outdoor scene during the storm concerned me because kids have a tendency to copy movies, and I live in Florida - sorry, I won't give it out, but Florida residents will get what I mean when they see it. There are sexual innuendos and violence, however the director chose a surprisingly clean way of depicting them.

I was very worried that the movie would not follow the book enough...I was wrong!! Although there were a few places that were different, they did an excellent job of making sure to stick to the story line! I would definately recommend reading the book first...Jasper makes no sense if you dont, and that is just one of several things you will scratch your head at if you dont read the book first.

For starters, I loved seeing the movie because I am a very visual person--and the movie had plenty of good visuals;) I was pleased with the level of faithfulness to the book--something that is difficult when a 500 page book has to be condensed into a movie script. The "not in the book" parts of the movie did not bother me and I actually enjoyed the added suspense starting early in the movie.
Rob Pattinson did a wonderful job as Edward--a lot of evidence that he really understands the tension Edward feels--and I do not think they could have done a better job casting Bella, Charlie, Carlisle and Emmett!

The book will be a timeless classic. This movie on the other hand does not compare to the original. The actors were good but not great. It is a bit melodramatic and while they try to portray the intense love the characters feel for one another it falls short.
Great flick for those who have not read the books. For all of us who hung on every word to Stephanie Meyer's epic novels it will be a waste of time and a disappointment.

Twilight was one of the best movies i've ever seen. It was jumpy at some parts, but it basically had to be like that because there fitting a 500 paged book into a 2 hour movie. I still loved it. It was amazing. Edward was dazzling.

I'd call this a solidly mediocre to good film. It wasn't poorly written, though it wasn't exactly well written either.
The special effects and makeup were more distracting than anything. The point of both are to make you suspend disbelief. The makeup was too heavily done and was unrealistic to the point it was distracting. It ended up making things unintentionally cheesy.
I loved the books. I was aware that the conversion to film form was going to lack, as so much of what made the books good was Bella's thinking. So much was lost in the conversion to film.
On the upside, the story is still fun. Anyone who's been a 17 year old awkward girl can relate to so many of the themes expressed.
