This movie is fantastic!!! Both, Dicaprio and Winslet played a wonderful role. They showed their emotions at all times and you get very involved in the story. I surely recommend it to everyone. It is a heavy movie but it portrays no more than the reality of life. As some one else said in the reviews, you may feel a little depressed after seeing the movie, but is totally worth it.

They smoke and drink alcohol in EVERY scene, even after she finds out she is pregnant she is downing martinis! (It was a different time then). This is very well-acted, you can read the emotions in their faces at all times. Definitely not for kids, it has issues of mental illness, abortion, and the dissolving of dreams and happiness. But, it is very realistic and I enjoyed watching how they portrayed these characters.

I thought that this movie was excellent, and having read the book, it stayed very close to the original plotline. Excellent acting by DiCaprio and Winslet, who were both snubbed by the Oscars. And Michael Shannon is dynamite. All in all, it was an superb movie, but beware...it is very heavy, and expect some depression in the days after seeing it.

It was hard to give this movie four stars because the story is such a downer, but Winslet, and especially DiCaprio are on top of their game here. This is a rather slow-moving film that picks up steam as the story line reaches that pivotal moment. It is a complex character study into two characters with conflicting life goals. This is not a love story, so don't expect it. Instead, prepare for tension, then anger, and finally tragedy that will eventually destroy the couple's hopes and dreams with one disturbed character motivated by a irrational selfishness and another looking to find some sense of self-importance. Without the performances and the chemistry between these two actors, this movie would be a definite pass for me.

This is not a story about the Wheeling family as much as it's a story about settling on an ordinary life and conforming to society's expectations. Most people are ordinary so it might make some viewers uncomfortable. Winslet's performance was far more interesting than in The Reader. DiCaprio should have taken home some gold. The movie ends differently than the book, but it works well. If you're in your 50's or older, the movie will take you back to an era that is now almost too strange to believe.

Terrific movie. Not only do Winslet and DiCaprio deliver top performances, every cast member is top notch. It's understandable why it's up for an Academy for Best Picture.
