My wife thought it was a great movie. I thought it was OK. Only enjoyed two of the many musical numbers. Movie seemed like a string of music videos that tried to hold itself together with a real thin plot. See this movie after you've seen all the rest out this season.

We went to see the movie markedly negative expectations based on reviews on Time magazine, NY Post etc. We were very pleasntly surprised. The movie turned out to be very entertaining with the format of a rather sophisticated musical which seamlessly intertwined with the dialogue. The actors, especially Daniel Day Lewis, Marion Cotillard and Judy Dench were all very good and the music was excellent.

"Nine" is a "10" in my book. Great casting; Daniel Day-Lewis is a perfect Guido; sure he's not a great singer, but luckily he's not Pierce Brosnan either.
The women in Nine are no less than amazing, and not just the young-hotties. Is there any role that Judi Dench can't play? Penelope Cruz, Fergie, Kate Hudson and Marion Cotillard are all sinfully sexy. Nicole Kidman is stunning.
The entire film is visually titillating and satisfying. It's a feast for the eyes and the ears!

This is a terrible movie with some great musical numbers. I expected something much better because of all the hype. The movie jumps around too much. The editing must have been done by the main character. I think that the script that he had (or did not have ) for the movie within the movie was better than the one for the actual movie. This is a visual spectacle. Most of the songs and dances were great - certainly, very visually stimulating. I found the movie to be very well directed - especially so for the number sung by Daniel Day Lewis towards the end of the film.
That man has to be a great shout for the Oscar, and certainly very strong competition for Jeff Bridges. What a performance! Also potential Best Supporting nods for Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard. And of course, what a treat seeing the magnificent Sophia Loren!
The performances and spectacle make this movie worth the price of admission, even while I doubt anyone will be raving about the movie itself

Overall, and entertaining film, but I must admit I would warn anyone I refer to this film to view it at their own risk. The opening was lethargic and confusing. As a previous reviewer stated, Kate Hudson's number was high in the rankings for quality and quantity. As always, Dame Judy Dench never fails to deliver, and Fergie's number was inspiring.

If you appreciate the films of Feillini, you'll totally enjoy this film. There's been a spate of nasty criticism here in the City about this film, and I have to say I think it's undeserved. Don't let the press' poison keep you away. It's well worth the time and money. We saw it at the Ziegleld Theater which made it all the more enjoyable.
It is what it is, and if you go to it expecting profound plots, action/adventure, or high drama, you'll be disappointed. But then one never got that at any one of Fellini's films!

I'm not normally a harsh critic, but what a disappointment! Despite the Oscar winning cast, the characters never came to life in what proved to be a real yawner of a movie. The only bright spot was Kate Hudson in the "Italiano" dance scene--the best scene in the entire movie. And she sings the best too.
Save your money and buy an extra box of candy at your next movie. You're not missing much with this one.

I didn't know that this had also been a play on Broadway. It is a very artsy-craftsy film presumptively based on the life loves of Frederico Fellini and his film entitled 81/2. Although the film lacks character development I think we all can gleen something from it, such as the feeling of the era, 1960's and the egocentricism of Fellini. The music and dance scores are spectacular. The film for me was entertaining.

ok, so it's not amovie everyone would rave about but if you like musicals with big production numbers...it's a winner! granted the story line is fragmented, but two numbers stand out. "be italian" is the best number in the show and kate hudson's piece isn't bad either. oscar winner marion cotlillard is terrific. this movie doesn't deserve to be panned. go see for yourself. it's on a par with "chicago"...enough said!

I went to see this because my girlfriend wanted to go. I like musicals, but this one is all glitz and little story line. Drags heavily in spots and the music many times has nothing to do with the story line. Could have easily cut 20-30 minutes off it without making any difference.

The musical numbers were very entertaining, with lots of glitz and flash. The singing and dancing talent of many of the stars is surprising. The best number was the "Be Italian" song sung by Fergie. Kate Hudson's number was good too. Sophia Lauren did an amazing job and she still looks beautiful and classy as always.

This is one of the best films of 2009! great dialogue, music, dancing and symbolism. Excellent portrayal of the conflicts that the "stars" in the film industry face trying to balance their personal and professional life every day. Rob Marshall’s ‘Nine’ is based on the 1982 stage musical that was adapted from Federico Fellini’s classic 1963 film ‘8½.’ Familiarity with the Fellini film is not necessary, however, to enjoy ‘Nine.’ The cinematography is spectacular, and the performances are fine, dramatically and musically: Daniel Day-Lewis can sing! And Fergie brings down the house with ‘Be Italian,’ while Kate Hudson’s high-energy singing and dancing of the ‘Cinema Italiano’ number reminded me of her mom, Goldie Hawn, during the ‘Laugh-In’ days. I’m not sure why some critics slammed ‘Nine’; perhaps they consider it a sacrilege to Fellini. That is unfair to ‘Nine,’ which deserves to be judged as the classy, flashy musical it is. In my world, ‘Nine’ is at least a 9½.

Ok... so I originally went to see NINE because I'm a huge fan of Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman and the flim Chicago. After experiencing the whole film though, I was so impressed by everything! The musical numbers were amazing to watch. I didn't even know that Dame Judi Dench could sing, or Kate Hudson for that matter. The costumes was wonderful to look at, very stunning. The sets were awesome! I have to say that Marion Cotillard totally stole the show in every scene that she was in. When she was in the room her energy totally pulled me in. Daniel Day-Lewis was able to carry the film, like always, and did a wonderful job making you almost hate his character.

HAVING SEEN THE BROADWAY SHOW TWO TIMES AND LIKING IT A LOT, THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS A GOOD TRY AT RECREATING THE CONFUSION AND ANGST FELT BY GUIDO. THIS IS A DEEP STORY, FILLED WITH MANY PASSIONS, AND THE MOVIE STARS WHO TRIED TO PORTRAY THESE FEELINGS DID A GOOD JOB. IT WASN'T THE BEST MOVIE I EVERY SAW, BUT A GOOD TRY AT A DIFFICULT STORY ! I THINK THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T LIKE IT, DIDN'T GET THE STORY.

It's a classic midlife crisis story, but each actress puts on a great show with her number. Excellent entertainment. If you like music, dance, colorful costumes and sexy women, this one's for you.

We absolutely loved this movie. I know reviews are bad, but I don't know why!! The cast was fabulous. The story is so intense and beautiful. Give it a chance. Open your mind and stay focused!! You are in for a treat!! I want to see it again!!!

The problem with "Nine" is that there is no story, there. The main character starts in a bad place and ends there. And in between, we see Day Lewis mope, frown, run his hands through his hair, suck on his cigarette and look generally beaten. The much-heralded women have nothing to do. Each one has one mediocre musical number (no song is memorable), and Loren looks like she's been mummified. Marshall did a great job with Chicago because Chicago was a great musical to start with. Nine is barely a two.

I would rate this movie a "Nine" on a scale of 0-100. What an embarassment to the actors,etc involved in any way. I feel that I have been robbed and certainly advise no one to waste their time or money.
