The movie was entertaining and did a great job recreating the first half of the Deathly Hallows. While enjoyable, the movie went long stretches with only Harry and Hermione in the scenes and if this was a movie from a script, not a book, I would give this movie a 3/5. If you have read the book, you will know what to expect and be happy, but if you aren't reading the series, this may be a bit of a let down.

This movie was such a disappointment. I am used to the great storyline, constant movement of the other Harry Potter movies. I get that they are grown up but most of the movie was them talking in the woods. I was very disappointed and bored for 90% of the movie. I've seen all of the Harry Potter movies and I have to say I don't know if I'm going to see the last one before it comes to DVD. Right now Harry Potter is going out with a dud.

I, being an avid Harry Potter fan, have read each of the books many times. The seventh one is definitely my favorite because it is so action-packed and exciting. I saw this movie on Thursday at midnight, and I was scared that it wouldn't be very good. I have been very disappointed with Harry Potter movies in the past, and since this one is such a big deal I didn't want to be let down. It turned out I had nothing to worry about. Many people may tell you that it felt rushed and the editing was choppy, but I think you would be hard pressed to make this book into a better movie. So much happens in this book that they could not keep it all, and I don't know if you could find anyone who would tell you that there was much in the movie that could be removed... and it was 2 1/2 hours long! There were a few moments from the book that I thought should have been in the movie because they were more insightful and symbolic, but overall it was a great experience. I do think that someone who has read the books might get more satisfaction out of it than someone who hasn't, however. I definitely plan on seeing it at least twice more before it leaves theaters.

This one really brought the books to life, and remain very close to the story of the book, which is wonderful, there was nothing glaringly wrong with the plot and the actors have really come into their own. I maybe going to see it a second time soon.

I typically do not like the Harry Potter movies, because they leave out key information and scenes and add other ones, and they are overall not accurate. However, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was truly an incredible movie. It was extremely true to the book, had great action and nature scenes, and it was overall a beautiful movie. I anxiously await Part II!

I've attended every Harry Potter movie on opening day, and at the end of every film, the audience breaks into applause. Not this one. No one made a move.
My 15 year old son broke the silence when he yelled "WHAT?! " That said, the film was really well done and everything set up for Part 2, and makes you dying to see it. If the studio had released it as one long movie with an intermission, I would've like that better!

I absolutely loved this movie, it was almost perfectly true to the book! I usually walk out of the harry potter movies a bit disappointed every time... like how they left out the battle scene in hogwarts at the end of the 6th movie. this movie will be sure to please die hard fans, they put in so many small details to make it stay true to the story (ie: when listening to the radio in the tent they announce ** as the new headmaster of hogwarts.... this is never recognized or discussed by the characters but it becomes important in the 2nd movie)

This movie was great, except for the other viewers near us (one liked to tell what was about to happen the entire time). Packed, sold out theater. Action scenes were intense and exactly what we have come to expect from this series. Although we know that the movies never compare to the books, this one was probably the MOST accurate of all the movies (not perfect but the closest). Loved it!

I think one of this is possibly one of the best done Harry Potter yet! It stays true to the books timeline with only minor deviations from the original plot. I would've loved to have seen more details on Bill and Fleur's wedding but that was the only scene that left me wanting more.

I'm so glad they split this movie into 2 parts. There is so much back-story and so many loose ends tied up in this book that it really needed to be 2 parts to do it justice. I was very satisfied with the first part. I think it was well done, action packed, and had the feel and ambiance of the book. My only complaint is that you don't get any of Dumbledore's life-story in the movie that you get in the book. Otherwise the character development and overall plot stay true to the book if somewhat abbreviated. Best so far!

this is definitely one of the best harry potter movies yet!! 2 and a half hours went by very quickly and each scene was great. parts were even comical at times, which i did not expect, but it made the movie even better! i actually cant wait to see it again. the ending is a cliffhanger and now i cant wait even more to see part 2 because of how it ends. go see this movie, you wont be disappointed!

Although I have read all of the books more than four times each, it is still great to see the movie adaptation of the books. I think this one may be one of the best in the series, because it sticks a little closer to the book's storyline. It is unfortunate I have to wait about six months before seeing the second part, but this was a great lead-in the "end." A great movie.

I have read all of the Harry Potter books and this movie is, by far, the most accurate.
I love the character development and the pacing of this film and I can't wait for the next one to wrap up the series.
Of course, I don't really recommend this movie for younger viewers - mostly because it is a slower pace than previous Harry Potter films. Also, there are some scary moments for children who might easily be scared.
If you haven't read the books or seen the previous movies, you are going to be lost. They don't play catchup in this installment. So take some time to check out the previous movies/books if you have the chance!
Overall - a fantastic movie with an amazing plot development. A must see for all HP fans!

This movie made me happier than the previous three movies put together! It was a smart decision to break the last book into two movies, ensuring the screenwriters would not have to cut as much out of the storyline as they had in the previous movies. "The Deathly Hallows" is a very dark book, easily, the darkest of the series. Appropriately, this is a very dark movie and I expect the sequel in July to be even darker. The movie-makers were able to keep the humor alive, to keep the movie balanced. But there were also beautiful moments of dark solitude; silence on chilly, open vistas; our three heroes contemplatively alone for long seconds... less emphasis on words and more on significant looks and physical communication. This shows a growth in the characters which we have not seen previously. These scenes did just as much to bring the movie to life for me as the scenes with all the other familiar characters. A well done movie, all-around! I can't wait for the conclusion in the summer!

I must say, I enjoyed this film very much. As I have grown up with the Harry Potter series, the movies have grown up as well. The transition from the first film to now the 7th film was beautifully done, maturing throughout each film. This film is much darker than its predecessors, and is always in suspense, but still manages to bring the usual comic relief that fits in quite well. The film is faithful to the book, and even manage to bring in moments that I forgot about from the book. This movie was fantastic, and the only complaint I have is that I have to wait until July to see the conclusion

After the last movie I was ready for another disappointment. This was as good as the first!! I was completely engaged throughout the entire movie, and although the beginning moved very quickly through a lot of information, the journey was amazing. Just awesome!

By far the best one yet. one thing thats unique to this movie - it spends a lot of time on the three main characters - you really get to know them - almost intimately. perfect ending to a two part movie as well

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was excellent! On the edge of your seat exciting, with terrific special effects. The movie remains true to the book - and assuming you've read the books (shame on you if you haven't) you'll have no trouble following it. The only bad part was that it ended - and now we have to wait 8 months to see the conclusion.....can't wait!

I really enjoyed the movie. It was a refreshing change to see the cast outside of Hogwart's and all grown up. Great special effects and not overkill on the action scenes. I can't wait for Part Two!!!

I think the movie was very good but realized after that there were different parts that should have been in the movie so that people who havent read the books could understand certain details. I was just under the impression that since it was in two parts it would almost be identical to the book so that it could be enjoyable to readers and non-readers. But in my opinion the movie was the best one yet!

If you're not a Harry fan, you're going to be lost watching this film. But by this time, if you go to see Deathly Hallows, it's pretty safe to say you ARE a fan. So enjoy. DH did not follow the book 100% (I'd say more like 85%) but that's to be expected and I think they did a pretty good job. It was significantly darker than the rest with the right amount of emotional upheaval. It's not for 11 yr. olds anymore. I couldn't imagine where they were going to decide to cut this film and await the second installment. Now I can't wait for Part II.

The choice to parse the final book of the series was wise given the culmination of many subplots in the seventh book. However, this seems to have given license to the director, screen writer, and film editor to indulge themselves in young adult angst and trying to best JK Rowling's emotional moments. Why would they add dialogue to Dobby's last moments when the book version is so much more poignant with the simple "Harry.... Potter".
Despite the lack of judicious editing, the performances, scenery, and occasional surprise action moments redeemed the film for me. But here's hoping that the last installment stays true to JK Rowling's gem.
