Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One

Extremely well done. The film included great action sequences and special effects and handled the search for horcruxes in an interesting way with a pace that kept the viewers engaged. The film definitely has a darker mood than the others, but is consistent with the book and the darkness is appropriate given what is happening in the story. A balance is kept by appropriately placed humor to lighten things up. Very exciting film! I can't wait for Part 2.

Wow! This movie was great! It included every major plotline that was needed to move the story along. Some changes from the book were necessary and very done. The only thing I would have wanted to see was SPOILER ALERT! You-Know-Who in Godric's Hollow reliving the death of Harry's parent. Again, not necessary to the plot but it would've been powerful to show. Overall very very good!

More than makes up for the previous one

from the opening sequence of a rusted, beat-up logo with a haunting music box version of the theme in the background to seeing each character preparing for the end, the film was a constant reminder that the conclusion of the beloved franchise is coming. many fans will notice a big difference in this film. for one thing, you don't see hogwarts at all. we've pretty much grown up with harry, ron & hermione in that big castle and so being wrenched away from that familiar place gives a feeling of slight fear thats reminiscent of homesickness which works well for the film since it puts us in the character's shoes. the pace of the film is well-balanced and the same goes for the humor and disturbing emotion that this film provokes. from hermione's opening scene with her parents, to the tim burton-like animated tale of "the three brothers", you get a strong sense of, "This Film Is Dark." but that's a good thing because you really begin to see that the characters are no longer kids anymore. they are full-fledged adults facing tasks that would make most adults run the other direction. i'm also glad that they did a short 2-second scene partially explaining some of the things that were cut out of the 6th film that made book fans so angry (myself, included). but all-in-all you wind up leaving the theater with your eyes a little more watery but still revved up and excited for part 2 and wishing that the summer of 2011 wasn't so far off.

One of the best Harry Potter movies so far and very true to the book. I can't wait to see the second part in 2011. There were a few slow spots where they probably could have shortened things up a bit but otherwise really good. I loved this movie!

Honestly, if this were not a Harry Potter movie and I had not read the books, I probably would not have liked it. In fact, if I had not read the books, I probably would have stopped after the travesty of The Prisoner of Azkaban, but that is a tale for another time.

I rated the movie three stars because I honestly could not decide whether it was good or not. As a stand-alone movie, it certainly was not good. The characters and their relationships were rather poorly developed; the only reason I cared for them and felt like I kind of "knew" them was because I have read the books and seen the movies countless times. There were one or two characters that I thought were done really well (Dobby was one of them), but otherwise, they were mediocre or sub-par at best.

And I can imagine the plot was confusing for anyone who hasn't read the books, as well. I only read the seventh book once, and I had trouble keeping up with a few of the events. It wasn't terribly done, of course, but in many places certain aspects that I felt needed to be drawn out either to explain something more thoroughly or for dramatic effect where very rushed.

The cinematography was pretty good, except for in a few places where I thought the camera was having a seizure, and the scenery was pretty excellent, as well.

However, here were one or two scenes that were completely goofy when they should have been serious and profound. One of these is the scene in the woods with the horcrux, and I'm sure anyone who has seen the movie will understand what I mean and agree.

One of the best and most awesome scenes in the movie was actually one where there were no actors involved -- The Tale of the Three Brothers, or something to that effect.

The soundtrack was good. In some places it was subtle (and rightly so) and in other places it was perfect and dramatic.

I'm still really conflicted about whether I indeed like this movie or just the idea of it. It might take one or two more showings to tell.

This was extremely enjoyable but I have been a fan and read all the books. If you have never seen a Potter movie, this would be utter nonsense. However, it is the 7th movie in a series, so I really can't blame them. It is well-made and captures the dread and darkness of the book really well. Actually, I think the pacing is quite a bit better than in the book where parts seemed to drag on. If you've seen the others, you will love this. If you haven't go rent or buy the DVDs because it's worth following this series.

It was good, true to the book. I like the fact that the characters in the movie have grown up (with my own kids). It happens rarely that anything you began with when your kids were little still maintains significance and interest to all of us as they get older. This portion of the story was more cerebral and had less action than part 2 will have. That was the only drag I suppose but I'm glad they are covering it all. Looking forward to buying the whole series on video and watching them closer together. Also completely looking forward to Part 2 in the theater.

This was a great movie, however, it's 2.5 hours long because they draw it out slowly in some scenes, which should have been cut shorter. It's such a dramatic and cinematic movie, they should also have produced this as a 3-D movie. I won't be surprised if Pt II will be in that format. It also IS a little more "blood graphic" than any of the other H.P. flicks, but we would have to rate this one as a 7 out of 10. That's coming from a 46 yr old male & 25 yr old female.

So often the movie version of a book is disappointing. Not so with the Potter movies. This one was the best. I was disappointed when it ended, but was satisfied that they maintained the integrity of the novel to the extent that they could not possibly contain it in one project. I did miss the campus scenes of earlier novels when the kids were young--floating staircases, portraits on the walls, dining hall--but enjoyed the grown-up kids and the intensity of the action. I look forward to Part 2.

I honestly think that deathly hallows part 1 is one of the best harry potter movies thus far.

I'm an avid reader of the books and while I watched the movie I really connected with everything going on in the movie. it was as if I was rereading the book (minus a few parts cutout or shortened)

With that said, anyone who has not read the books and only watch the movies may not understand the complexities within this book/movie. I think the movie did a great job picking out the right scenes for the movie and did great justice to the book.

And yes, the special effects were awesome. I can't wait for the fight sequences in part 2!

My daughter and I both thought this movie was excellent. We have watched every one so far and we both think that the whole series is fantastic. This movie held our interest so well that when it ended we could not believe that 2 hours and 30 minutes had already passed. We cannot wait for the final part, but we will both be sad to have it end. But like they say all good things must come to an end. Even this fantastic Harry Potter adventure. We have loved every minute of it so far.

The Harry Potter movies have evolved from children's films in movies for audiences of any age. In fact, this is by far the most adult movie of the series. It's smart, dark, and addresses very grown-up issues. I would definitely do my best to convince my adult friends who just assume the movie is for kids to take the time to see it. It is one of the best films I've seen.

If you haven't read the books or seen the others movies...start reading or renting. This movie is for serious Harry Potter fans. The 2 1/2 hr movie flew by only to end mid story...yes, I will be at part 2 in July. The story stayed true to the book and was exciting. The retelling of the "The Three Brothers" was so cool, with creepy animation that reminded me of Tim Burton. This is scary for the little ones, but true HP fans will not be disappointed.

Most Accurate Of the Franchise

The tone is darker, the tension high, but not without a bit of humor and a lot of quiet moments to help out.

Of all of the Potter films thus far, this one stands out amongst the rest in several ways, all due to the decision to split it into two parts. The action is well paced, not thrown in our face at the expense of the continuity as in other parts, as well as increasing tension when necessary (a certain scene with an old woman stands out there). This allows for more quiet time, and a longer way to explore the maturing characters of Ron, Hermione, and Harry, though regrettably at the expense of the development of others, who get very little screentime.

But what stands out from the rest in this installment in the Harry Potter film series is its accuracy to the source material. Previous films cut out characters, chapters, entire events, gutted the books to get the bare essentials while leaving out things that were more important to the franchise as a whole. This one leaves almost nothing out that it needs as far as I can tell, and keeps the worse parts of the book (in my opinion, the arguments between the trio were shaved down to a much more tolerable amount to keep it interesting).

The only possible gripe I can think of, aside from the lack of development of a few characters, is that the film does not explain events of previous books very much to help people to catch up. I understand that there is a lot to cover in this first part of the seventh year, but it could have used a bit more.

Overall, I feel that this is a must-see for Potter fans. The most faithful to the source book up to where it got, though there can be a lot of explaining to do if people haven't seen previous films yet.

I have read all the books and seen all the movies and this one is very consistant with the last book.It did have some slow parts in the middle but visually was great and even had some funny moments both my kids 10 and 12 liked it alot.We can't wait for part 2.

Overall, I liked this movie, have read all the books and seen all previous HP movies. I will say that a watcher should read the book before seeing this particular movie to appreciate it properly. If you don't know about the 7 horacruxes then you will be frustrated understanding the quest. This movie is the foundation for the part 2 coming out in May 2011. If you had part 1 AND part 2 and watched them back to back, then you might not need to read the book but without the book you would miss some of the background threads.

I absolutely loved this movie. I have been waiting all year. I have re-read all the books before going to see it and I wasn't disappointed in any way. Most of it was right by the book.
