I think this movie stayed with the book much more closely than all the previous movies. I was disappointed that they kinda skipped Harry's birthday!
I noticed that J.K. Rowling was listed as a Producer, which is probably why it stayed closer to the book.
I also liked the point at which they stopped.

It only took them 7 tries, but they finally did it; they finally found a balance between the books and translating it into film. Though at times you definitely needed to have read the books to understand certain holes not pictured on screen (i.e. Voldemort's name is a homing beacon for snatchers, why the Malfoy's are so terrified), for the most part, this latest installment hit all the highlight's while maintaining a high level of intensity. And most importantly for me, the powers that be finally remembered that Ron is kind of important and can do more than pat Harry on the back and make funny faces. Not to demean Daniel Radcliffe, but Rupert Grint is a more subtle, profound actor who has been wasted for most of the movies. Be prepared to laugh and cry because whether you have read the books and know what's going to happen, it still hurts to see it on screen again.

Can't wait to see this movie again, this was by far the best harry potter film yet! It brings the audience through every emotion possible and takes you on such a ride! For those who don't follow the movie or books to well, it would be very beneficial to have some one give you an update and/or quick summary of whats going on before the movie so you can enjoy it and not be to confused. But even if you don't follow the series, you will love this movie!

I came to this movie with a certain trepidation, since I'm not a big HP fan, and have not seen any of the last 3 movies. So I heard that there were alot of references to things in this film for which I would have no knowledge. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the film, did have a little trouble at some points figuring out what was going on, but found that the acting, storytelling, and film-making were all very good and engaging. So even for those who aren't die-hard fans, I think this is a very fine film.

well the title of my review says it all I believe. The movie wasted almost more than an hour (1hr and 15 minutes or so) on the three kids getting lost and staying in a tent getting over their misunderstandings about one another (the storoy does'nt really move forward in this time. Well the producers should have cut the crap and released it as one single part (instead of two) by eliminating this waste of time ! But even otherwise this movie does not have many magic effects that were shown in the trailer, they have reserved those for the last part.
All in all very slow and boring, save the money skip watching the movie in theatres.

While the sixth movie in the Harry Potter series was somewhat of a disappointment for me, because it did not follow the book as closely as the others had; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, has more than lived up to what I expected. While there were pieces in the beginning of the book that did not show up in the movie, they were not entirely ignored. For instance, in the book Hermione had referenced to Harry that she could not go back home because she'd had to obliviate her parents memory of her. In the movie, they showed her doing it, which did redeem that part.
When, after leaving Ron returned, there was no mention of him having been listening to the radio while he was gone, and therefore no explanation as to Voldemorts name being a way to trace them, which is how they were found in the coffee shop before they wound up back at Siruis's home.
However, these are pretty minor details, ones we have become used to losing along the way, in all the movies. There seems to be the assumption that if you are going to see the movies, you must have read the books and as a result would know how certain things came to be, like Harry now having that mirror shard for which he used as a means for seeking help while in the Malfoy's cellar. Sure, in Godric's Hollow they did not go in disguised as Muggles, but rather went as themselves, Harry's explanation was perfectly plausible and so I could live with that.
All in all, these are minor points in the overall scheme of things, and in no way hurt the movie. Because of how fast paced this movie was, it was easy to see why it had to be broken into two parts. On the other hand, had they not done so and had condensed the book down to just one movie, they never could have done justice to this last book in the series. I am sure everyone who is a fan of the books and the movies series, hoped that they would do better with this than the last one. They succeeded.
I always knew that when it came to the ending of part 1, it would be focused somewhere around the death of Dobby,which they did indeed do, they also incorporated slightly more ( which I will not mention here in case someone has not yet seen the movie and so I don't wish to spoil it) suffice it to say, it was ended at the absolute perfect place. I am happy to say that with a few minor exceptions it did closely follow the book. The purest in me thanks the screenplay writer for that, and if I remember correctly, that would be Steve Klovis, so thank you Steve for the excellent job you did on this.
If there is consistency in part 2 of the Deathly Hallows, I foresee this movie taking best picture, just as the series end for Lord of the Rings did.

I really love this movie!! Let's be honest all the Harry Potters are great but this really set the stage for a great finale. I think if you are not a Harry Potter reader or lover this may be a bit boring. My husband has graciously went to all of the movies with me but has not read the books and was a little bored at this one. I however LOVED IT!!

Having just reread the Deathly Hallows, I found the movie to be exceptional and considering the time permitted, the movie closely followed the book. Well worth while and I can hardly wait for part II. This was dark, not moody and just galloped along. I could not believe that 2-1/2 hours and gone by. The ending was stunning!

This movie had a lot of ground to cover and it is hard to tell only half the story and then stop, but they did a good job of both. The 7th book is a race to the ultimate showdown and this first half really captured the spirit of that race.

Good movie for the HP aficionado and generally well done. But why did it take two and a half hours just to set the stage for part 2? Really disappointed that not even a midway point was reached - just a lot of stuff happening and nothing coming together.

Director David Yates does a wonderful job of following the basic outline of the book. You are quickly whisked away into the dark and magical world of Harry Potter. While the movie is long - 2 1/2 hours - time moved quickly and the ending was perfect. The first thing my husband asked was when Part 2 was going to be released which is a great testament to the overall feel of Part 1. Go and enjoy!

I really enjoyed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1. I enjoyed how they presented the first half of book 7 because it is a very slow part of the story. I also enjoyed the changes they made to some of the scenes from the book. Really enjoyed how they showed the story of the three brothers. Also the end of this movie is exactly where I expected it would occur. Very well done!

Excellent story telling in this installment of the movie series. Although this portion of the Harry Potter story is probably the least dramatic and hardest to portray...the movie did a great job of telling the story...and bridging the viewer to the next movie. The final movie should be absolutely amazing and I can't wait!!

I'm not the biggest fan of Harry Potter, infact I never seen or read parts 3-6. This movie made me download the previous parts just to see the entire story, it grabbed my interest pretty darn good. Can't wait for Part 2.

I LOVED IT! I would take everyone I know to see this movie. In my opinion, it is the first movie since Philosopher's Stone to follow the books really well. Not saying it does a perfect job, but it did its best.
The movie was sad, action packed, funny, sad, funny, oh my gosh! I would see it again and again, even if it is expensive to see it in theaters!
Can't wait to watch the next one, but if you have any hint of a chance, WATCH THIS ONE!!
