It was ok, could have been 45 minutes shorter due to unneccessary wispy-looking, pensive scenes, which dragged the movie out. Makes it appears book 7 was split into two movies not due to content. Did jump at a couple of gripping action moments, however overall wishing we'd saved the $$ for the DVD. Now where's my wand...ah, here we go - "Obliviate"

Excellent following of the book - both in text and emotion! My 15 year old daughter was completely thrilled and she and I cannot wait for the conclusion. The negative reviewers are missing the focus of the story!

they did an excellent job of bringing the seventh book to life. i was shocked when the move ended - it absolutely didn't feel like 2.5 hours. i wanted more. the final movie is set up perfectly, and i can't wait to see it.

This movie lived up to my expectations. I went in knowing it would be wonderful, suspenseful, and just amazing! The scenery was beautiful, the graphics outstanding! But I must say for anyone who is not a Potter book or movie fan, this is not for you. There must be some background knowledge otherwise you will more than likely be lost.

From the opening to the credits, I was glued to my seat. Knowing this was only part 1 of The Deathly Hollows, I kept checking my watch @ every scene, dreading the end of this movie. I simply did not want it to end! The crew has definitely grown up & the effects of one scene in particular blew my mind. Whether you have read the books or not, you may be sad when it ends, but you will enjoy the trip.

For my family, which includes teenagers, the movie was great! However beware, that as most of you know, the Potter trio are older, and thus, so are some of the scenes in this movie. The trio is more mature now and so are some of the scenes. There are long, quiet, drawn out, mature scenes that will lose a little ones' attention, and there is one provocative, partially nude scene involving the trio. Great flick overall for us older fans, we enjoyed it immensely! Can't wait for the last movie, as of course this one leaves us hanging, wanting more yet again!

As far as the acting, this is the best of the movies, very emotional and you could feel the tension. However, it seemed to drag a bit at times, and I was looking for more of the scenes with Kreecher and those at Malfoy Manor, and with the Dursleys. If you have not read the books it will be hard to follow. I know that this is only a part one, but I have to say, I was hoping for a little more. Or maybe better choices of what scenes to keep, which needed more, and which they could just gloss over.

This was a great movie! It was great how they cut barely anything out from the book where as in the other movies lots of stuff from the book was cut out. The ending was a little dissapointing but it'll get people back to see the second half of the movie when it comes out. I would reccomend this movie!

So I appreciated the fact that the story needs to progress, and it does so with a lot of excitement and fanfare. I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat, and it was awesome how a lot of things were coming together. But so many characters of old were left out of this movie altogether, and that was kind of sad to me. I wish there was a way they could have interjected what was going on with Snape. I missed Hogwarts, as it wasn't in any part of the movie at all. I miss the whole process of learning magic. I guess it's all part of their growing old, but I almost wish they were all young again and back at Hogwarts.
Other than that sniveling part of my review, the movie was pretty good. I think that some of the special effects weren't as good as they could have been, while others were fantastic. Because it was PART I, you knew you were going to be left on the edge of your seat at the ending, and unfortunately you were.
I love all of the actors. They are so invested in their roles, and that makes the movie all that much better.

The movie was very true to the book - not completely so, but mostly so. The musical score was perfect, and supported the themes and emotions in the movie wonderfully. The photography, locations, and special effects were all exceptional. The characters were well played, with human frailties and nuance, resutling in some good humorous moments in the midst of this tale of a bleak time. And, just as in the book, the action slowed as it reached the mid-point of the tale.
So, yes I am eager to see the final installment, yes I would watch this again for the music, the visuals, the characters, and the plot, but I also somehow did not leave the movie thinking "wow!" to myself. This movie is a technically perfect incomplete tale, and thereby lacks the resolution we all crave at the end of a tale.
I think this movie will be best as the first film of a double feature, with the audience able to see part II after a bathroom and popcorn break!

Awful. It seems like half the movie is spent camping in the woods with almost no aim, momentum or pacing. I was bored, bored, bored!!!
I loved the rest of the HP films, but this was almost unwatchable!
WAIT FOR VIDEO!!! You'll probably want to see it just as a bridge between the rest of the movies.

The first half of the book of Deathly Hallows doesn't have much action, but does have much emotion. Same with the movie. The pacing is leisurely, sometimes TOO leisurely, but the emotion is intense and there's a real sense of danger and crisis. The action sequences are explosive and scary, and some of the "on the road" scenes are breathlessly beautiful. Radcliffe, Grint and Watson all push their acting envelopes. Best moments: a heartbreaking dance between Harry and Hermione, the Godric's Hollow sequence, and the pursuit by the snatchers. I wish director Yates had varied the blue-gray palette, but if you bring patience to the theater, you'll have a rich experience.

This chapter is the best of the Harry Potter movies! My kids and I agree that the action and the mixture of drama and humor was good. We have seen all the Potter movies and read the books and this book was great and the movie is keeping up with the book. I can't wait for Part 2!

When seeing a Harry Potter film, I'm not going to be surprised, I am going for 2 reasons:
1. To revisit a beloved book series
2. To see how well the film adapts the book

{BOOK SPOILERS... of course, if you haven't read the book I would be amazed...}

When watching, I find myself comparing the novel to the movie scene by scene and I think they did an admirable job. The primary focus of the first movie is the trio on their own and the movie is built around this part of the book. When Ron leaves they needed to provide enough pacing / time to make his return feel believable. Unfortunately, this pacing required them to shorten other areas, especially the beginning where they abandoned one of my favorite scenes. This gave the film the feel of a car shooting forward for bursts and then gliding.

In dealing with Hedwig they improved the source material and I applaud them for that. That was how it should have been done in the book. They were also very successful at adding new humor elements to lighten the film up during dark stretches.

I highly recommend the film and look forward to the last film. Only 365 days to go :)

So, i've been a fan since the beginning but this movie can be summarized in 30 seconds.
1. Everyone wants to get Harry
2. Harry hides and finds the Horcrux
3. Can't destroy it until he finds a sword
4. Finds out the remaining three Horcrux
5. Voltermort gets 1 at the end from a dead guy
2 hours and 40 minutes of worthless footage and absolutely no action or high point. You would be better off waiting until it's on DVD and the 2nd half is in theaters.

The Movie is all grown up now! Loved every moment of it. I like that it has been divided into 2 parts - it does not leave you hanging in unfulfilled expectation "and that is it?", instead it gives you the pleasure of enjoying the nuances of the story (which was not the case in 2 previous movies). Loved every bit of it. Great cast, great acting, great special effects.

This movie is incredible! It took parts of the book that many people thought were boring or too drawn out and made them so full of life! At the same time they changed ALMOST nothing. (Some of the beginning is different.) I had no idea where they would end this one so that it wouldn't be abrupt and yet they would have enough material for two whole movies, but they nailed it! This movie is funny, scary, shocking, gorgeous, and just completely amazing. I am a tried and true Harry Potter fan and this movie has my fan seal of approval!

i thought the movie was amazing and although it didnt adhere 100% to the books, it had to differ so that it was understandable to non-readers and for time purposes. overall, it was very well done and i LOVED it. i would suggest it to anyone! however, non-readers, it would probably help to have an avid HP reader by your side :)

I saw this movie with a friend that hadn't read the books and he loved it.
I myself feel the writers did a pretty good job on deciding which elements to leave out of the script. For the most part I got the same feeling from the movie that I did from the book.
The acting was great. A few scenes had me on the edge of my seat and then made me jump in my seat. OVERALL a four star movie because I had read the book.

I have followed all of the Harry Potter films for the last 10 years, and have taken my neice and nephew. Now I am taking my grand daughter. The three main actors have come into their own, their acting has improved tremendously, and it kept you on the edge of your seat. I would have liked to seen more battle scenes, it was times when the movie was slow and could have been picked up more, so with that in mind I would give it a 9 instead of a 10. I know that the last film will be outstanding, and if you are scared of snakes this is not the movie for you. It would have been aweson in 3D, but it was a very good film all in all
