It's pretty safe to say that anyone who went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is already an avid fan, and, in more cases than not, has already read the books and knows what to expect. I freely admit, I am no different! :)
More than ever, you are forced to see that these are no longer kids, they are young adults. And they are forced to take on more adult responsibility than most of us will ever know, and they have to step up to the plate and do it.
I think the movie stuck to the book as much as was possible, maybe slightly glossing over a thing or two here and there, but not enough to be bothersome. It's non-stop action and tension, anticipating every move, and the scene that was chosen to cut this film off and make way for the second, is a nail-biting moment that will leave you aching for more!
How many days until July??? ;)

It was amazingly close to the book! Everything was done so well; the acting, sound, visual effects, etc. It was definitely a very enjoyable movie and I cannot wait to see part two in July!

This is by far one of 2010's best movies. The three stars are at their best. I only wish the producers would have given the last two movies as much depth and attention to detail as they have in Part 1.

The movie was perfect! It stuck to the book pretty well, was very exciting and ended at the perfect place to lead into part 2. My 5 year old son was not really that interested, so I will say that it may be boring for little ones. Other than that, I can't say enough!

This movie exceeded my expectations. In my opinion it was the most like the book than any of the previous movies. I was apprehensive about the last book being separated into two parts but now i'm wondering if this shouldn't have been the case in the previous books as well.

Boy did they out do themselves in this one. We really enjoyed the fact that they kept the intensity of the book in the movie. The movie was overall shot better compared to the previous ones as you would expect with newer technology. I say two thumbs up and have already recommended to friends and family. The only one disappointed at my house is my 9 year old daughter who my husband and I felt will definitely have to wait a couple of more years to see this one. There was much more intense violence and not to mention some brief sexuality.

The movie is delightful; full of explosions and fantastic cgi affects to delight the eye. However, the movie follows the book a little too far into the woods... literally. Half of the movie takes place in a tent as the despair and drama ekes out into everyone's tender places to evoke our empathy for the heroic trio's plight in ... camping. When the movie picks up again, it does with abandon and becomes a rollicking ride of awesome. This movie was everything it was expected to be and then some.

I am a HUGEEE Harry Potter fan but after seeing this movie, I am BLOWN awayyyy!!! SUCH AN AMAZING MOVIE!!!!! And I took 14 friends to see it, most of which were NOT Harry Potter fans, and they all LOVEDDDDDDDDDD it!! I cannotttt WAITTT for part 2 already!!!!

Unfortunately, I will have to wait for Part II. Hallows Part I is the worst Potter film. A whole hour of the film is a waist of time filled with emptiness. The best part was Harry dancing with Grainger!

Deathly Hallows was interesting and informative, it was nice to see things at a slower pace which is different from all the other films. Cant wait for the final chapter! Go see you will be missing out, yes its a little slow but still great just sad that almost everyone Harry loves is gone:(

The overall movie was very good. I think that it portrayed all the major events of the first half of the book, plus it got into a very good detail of it. Only complaint I have with it, and this may as well be with the overall storyline of Harry Potter, is it's similarities to The Lord of the Rings. Example of this would be when they are wearing the locket (that still contained the horocrux) they tended to get angry/they didn't have total control over their thoughts. Which is the same as when the Ring of Power in the LOTR is worn, it slowly takes control of the bearers mind.
However the overall movie was great, definitely recommend for any fantasy/action moviegoer.

This was a great movie. It was hard to watch because of the story it was telling. It was intense and sad at several parts. It missed several important details that are in the book but it also changed a couple parts that made the story better! Overall I would go see this again and can't wait to see the second part next year!

I always like the book better, but this was quite faithful. I think there was only one omission I found troubling, the change in Harry's treatment of Kreacher (under Hermione's urging), and the transformation of Kreacher's character under the better treatment. That seems to me one of the necessary factors in Harry's (and Ron's) increasing maturity. At first I wondered at Voldemort's having eyes instead of the red slits of the "Goblet of Fire," but I imagine that the longer, more complicated scenes would have been next door to impossible in the "Goblet" makeup.
I think that one would need to have read the earlier books to understand some of the emotional content of the movie - Hagrid, Dobby, and Lupin spring to mind. On the whole, though, a fine job. The acting was excellent.
