Having read Harry Potter books more than once, i was impressed with the previous movies. They made it MAGICAL, breathtaking. This movie gets 2 of 5 from me. The effects were mediocre. And what is this new trend that moviemakers think is cool- shaking camera. Like the camera man is hungover or something. Its NOT cool at all. I walked out of the movie disappointed.

This movie, I'm assuming, was really amazing!! I didn't see it, I haven't seen any Harry Potter movies. Last night, in the spirit of Thanksgiving eve, I scalped my tickets to a couple of kids on a date and made their dreams come true!! Viva Harry Potter!!

It was a little on the slow moving movie side. It does help to have the Harry Potter background.
It was on the depressive side and they needed to go into the creatures story. To keep up with the sad/depressive side.

Great representation of the book

Some reviewers state that one must read the book to truly understand this HP film. I agree a little with this thought. I am an avid Harry Potter fan. I have read all of the books a few times. There were parts in this movie (as with any of the other HP movies) that I thought someone who never read the book would really not "get." The books are fantastic, so I would encourage anyone to read them.

The movie followed the storyline of the book quite well. The screenplay 'doubled up' some scenes from the book. I thought this was nicely done.

The CGI was pretty good. Nagini could have been a little more convincing, but oh-well.

I am excited to see part II. Most of the action does take place in the last half of the book, so it makes sense that the movie would follow suit.

Loads of build up

This was a good movie and just as in the book, there is a great deal of build up to the 2nd half. I definitely recommend seeing this movie in the Cinema Suites. It is well worth the $$$.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1

This is the best of the Potter movies, and they are all good. The special effects, the humor, the quality of the cinematography...all great. It's definitely something you should see on the big screen at least one, and on the biggest screen (I-Max) if possible. This was the highlight of my Thanksgiving holiday, given that I got to see it with my family and we all enjoyed it very much. A memorable experience for all.

Really good movie, one of the best of the HP films. Good acting, good plot, and I liked to "funny" moments and awkward silence parts. These kids have really gotten a lot better actors, which is great to see.

My wife and I went and saw the film last night, and overall we thought it was good. Not having read the novels myself, I've had to rely on my memory of what's happened in previous films to stay caught up. I'm assuming that this all matched the novel, but certain "jump" scenes got repetitive after a while. Like other reviewers, I found the focus on the developing relationship among the three main characters good, and Ralph Fiennes - as in the previous films - is fiendishly brilliant. I have to admit that I enjoy these darker films much more than the early ones ("Hey, guys! Let's play Quidditch! Yay for Hogwarts! I've got a wand!"), and I've set the bar pretty high for the final installment next year.

Simply Incredible

This movie made me smile for hours afterwards and I couldn't fall asleep because I was so excited (saw the movie at night).
Splitting the final book into two was the only option they had, in my opinion, and it worked perfectly. In previous movies, I was frustrated 10 minutes in because of all that they had had to change or cut out in order to fit the book into a decently timed movie. Because they split the book in two, they were able to take their time and stay true to the book, which made for an astounding product.
I had high expectations for this film. It was the final book, and it was only the first half of said book. I was expecting to be pleased with the movie. When I left that theater, I was much more than pleased. I was on cloud nine. The movie was so much more than my expectations, and those were already very high.

Particularly striking to me was the opening scene and how perfectly it conveyed all of the emotions that I felt from the book.

I wouldn't change a thing, except explain more about Harry calling Voldemort "You-Know-Who" and Xenophilius saying the name, and why these two events were significant.
I think a scene explaining the taboo would have been beneficial, though my friends who hadn't read the books did not notice at all.

Overall, the first half of this final movie was absolutely incredible. I will be seeing it several more times in theater and will be waiting in line to get the DVD when it comes out. I have recommended this film to all of my friends and plan on dragging many of them to go see it.

An excellent movie. Glad they decided to break this book into two parts. There is so much that would have been tossed out otherwise. This movie has a different more mature feel than the others, and does and excellent job of setting you up for Harry's final conflict with Voldemort.

Although a darker version compared to the other movies, this was by far the best. loaded with action and great effects, this was a fun ride. The anticipation for the final chapter has been enhanced tremendously. You can't help but to connect with all the characters and sit on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next.

My 14 yr old gave it a rating of 9.25 out of 10....he really liked it....said it was very true to the book. My 11 year old daughter liked it too. Me, I thought it was a natural progression in the series and was good entertainment. Not as much pure action as previous movies, but I am sure Part 2 will make up for that.

Funny how we want what we don't get. Previous HP movies felt like they went by too fast, leaving out some details and seques that would leave those who hadn't read the books a little lost. Deathly Hallows did the opposite - almost too much. The very loooong segment of Harry and Hermione in hiding started to feel like 40 days and 40 nights. But then the action picked up and all was well, until the two-plus hours was suddenly gone. Can't wait for Part II.

Nearly fell asleep - TWICE.
Having NOT read the books, I suppose this movie will be required in order to figure out what is going on in the FINAL film, but there were NO "WOW" moments, CGI was fair, story line was dark and plodding. The trailers BEFORE the film were more entertaining than the film!
ONLY die-hard Potter fans need attend.

Despite the fact its a set up for the final movie, this one was great.There was action, mystery and sadness. All the stuff you could want was in it and the relationships between the three main characters were superb. They've always worked well together. I look forward to the finale though I will be sad there will be no more after:(

I have seen all the movies and read all the books, and this is the best Harry Potter movie so far. Splitting the book into 2 parts was such a good idea..I finally felt like I wasn't running through the books in order to be able to fit everything like the other movies. The books are very long, and to be able to fit everything, they usually end up cutting out a lot of the small stuff that makes Harry Potter so wonderful, and then changing a lot in order to be able to have the movie still make sense after cutting out everything. Not this movie - they stayed much more loyal to the book and it worked so well. For those who said it dragged a bit - that's the point. If you've read the book, you know that's how the first half of the book is as well. All in all, it's the first Harry Potter movie I left fully satisfied!

With all the hype leading up to the end of the Potter series I expected a bit more. I was disappointed with the slow pace and how the story line was presented. If you see the trailer, then you'll have seen the better parts of the movie.

Having read the book there were some noticeable differences that made the translation into the film different. Taking out almost all the mystery behind Dumbledore and the utter hopelessness of the situation. The book did a better job to express the utter lack of all hope the book conveyed in trying to figure out how to find the remaining horcruxes. I can also see why many would not like the film as its formula is so different from every other book/film. Still I thought they did a great job with it and like how you can easily see all the lessons learned from the other films come to fruition in this film. I do wonder what will be done in the second part as most of the book is seen in this film, but I'm just happy there is a film to see. You'd have to be a fan of Harry Potter to enjoy it, but as most of the planet already is I'm sure you'll find it to be an enjoyable film.

This movie was everything that the ads said it would be. Great action, lots of suspense, wonderful acting. My only holdback is that it is very hard to understand most of what is being said. I know its an English movie with their accents, but with all the noise and the Harry Potterish magical words, it compounds trying to understand what is going on or wrong.

This installment gave us another taste of what we all fear, the end is near. Each challenge the group meets is exciting and yet foreboding. David Yates has again, brought to the screen a wonderful representation of the Rowling book. Can't wait for July 2011!

This movie was obviously the darkest yet. There was still, I thought, some important scenes left out...especially given that the book was split into two films (ie - the scene between Dudley and Harry when the Dursleys are leaving for good). My first reaction was that I was not happy where the films were split, but it was obviously difficult to decide, and I know that there is more to the story so no place probably would have seemed great. Overall I thought it was a very good adaptation and I can't wait for part 2!

If you only see the HP films, and have not read the books you'll need to consider seeing this one in order to have a starting place for the last episode..............

Compared to the previous movies, this one was not up to par. Really wish we had waited for the video release and Part 2 so maybe if watching it at the same time would help. We found ourselves wanting for our fast forward button on the DVR but unfortunately, we did not have one. If you have read the book, then just wait for Part 2. You will feel better.
