My wife and I went and saw the film last night, and overall we thought it was good. Not having read the novels myself, I've had to rely on my memory of what's happened in previous films to stay caught up. I'm assuming that this all matched the novel, but certain "jump" scenes got repetitive after a while. Like other reviewers, I found the focus on the developing relationship among the three main characters good, and Ralph Fiennes - as in the previous films - is fiendishly brilliant. I have to admit that I enjoy these darker films much more than the early ones ("Hey, guys! Let's play Quidditch! Yay for Hogwarts! I've got a wand!"), and I've set the bar pretty high for the final installment next year.
My wife and I were not sure what to expect when we took our two daughters (ages 6 and 3) to see this - but none of us were disappointed. The live action and funny visual sequences were enough to keep the kids entertained, while the more grown-up humor had all of the adults in the audience rolling in the aisles. Very subtle references to other classic films will also keep you on your toes. The soundtrack was also a nice surprise, and not something that will really turn off the kids - some great tunes.
