So Lucas made us wait 20 years for a new Indiana Jones movie, but the target audience is the same as the others: adolescents. Not that the movie wasn't fun to watch, it just has an immature plot and character development, plus some childish antics that I'm sad to admit are still funny to me. The old fans are thrown a bone in the beginning with the movie starting out in the warehouse that the Ark is taken to in the first movie, complete with the same music playing in the background as the camera scans over the boxes.
Plot: The plot is reasonable, with the riddles in ancient languages and turns of events leading Indy and friends to ancient South America.
Characters: Almost all cardboard, except for Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), who learns respect for his archaeologist heritage.
Acting: Shia LaBeouf is talented, as always, but he's not as endearing as he was in Transformers. Harrison Ford has his game face on, which is impressive considering he hasn't done anything like this in years. Cate Blanchett, who is normally excellent, is not cast well in her role as the evil KGB scientist. And her British accent sneaks through on many occasions as she attempts to sound Russian.
Overall: Go see this movie to be entertained. Don't look for realism. Try not to be put off by the many scientific inconsistencies. Picture the movie you are watching as a comic book story for the kids and you will have a good time.

My whole family enjoyed the movie. For the younger crowd, it is new and fresh. For my husband and I, we rememberd watching the first Indiana Jones films when we were teenagers, so this brought back great memories. The film is done in the same way as the earliers ones which makes it so appealing. Jones rocks!

If you don't try to dissect it and just sit back and let the movie flow, you will be entertained. Great sets, hammy acting, decent special effects and a supernatural story line = a fun two hours at the movies.

I was disappointed a little in this move after all the hype. The action was ok but felt the ending was really weak and a bit far fetched. However the kids enjoyed it which was the main thing and it was a fun night out.

Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a mistake, let's face it. The movie should have taken a lesson from it's own after-school-special morality and let Indiana Jones lie undisturbed in the hallowed grounds of his past awesomeness.
But they had to do it... they kicked over those perfectly crafted action sequences, the classic cocky retorts, and the well-written intrigue... they ruined it and summoned the junk-god to destroy the shrine of our beloved Indiana Jones. Not only has Harrison Ford has gotten too old to pull off the aforementioned cocky lines he once delivered with such a charming, almost unaware bravado, but the entire support cast seemed to falter like stuttering kid at a spelling bee. Karen Allen, once a vibrant, cheeky, hard-to-get, archeo-adventure chick is reduced to a wide-eyed dumbkin who stupidly stares at Indiana throughout the course of the film. Cate Blanchett, normally an on screen genius, is a wildly confusing villainess with conflicting methods and motives. Then there is Shia LeBeouf made into a one-trick-pony greaser who preforms an annoying "wield the comb" bit six-too-many times. John Hurt could have been interesting if it he'd been used to play something more than a jungle crazy who simply points the skull at every problem, which miraculously is always the solution.
All in all it's hard to blame the cast though. They've all had their share of monumental roles and a couple were even in some of "those scenes" -- the ones that have become iconic representations of movies at their best. I have to think that this was a throw away for Steven Spielberg, perhaps the greatest living director, the man who gave more images and visual techniques to the collective conscious than probably any other single person. Many of the lines delivered in the movie seemed to be read right of the page and the insertion of inexplicable CGI gophers at multiple times in the movie for what I can only assume was supposed to be comedy value, was downright viewer-abuse. Other choices - shot sequence, visual gags, set pieces, etc -- seemed to be just Steven phoning it in as if he couldn't be bothered to choose all that Indy-stuff again.
And who would want to with such a urine-poor script to work off of. In addition to the "skull ALWAYS works" motif established as soon as you see the accursed piece of Hot Topic chintz, the script itself is far too explanatory of where Indiana has been all this time. There are constant references to off-screen events that have happened since we last saw our hero. Only thing is NO ONE CARES. This is a new adventure. You didn't hear him talking about the arc (only good cameo by the way) all the way through Temple of Doom right? Most of the first half of the movie was used to tell the audience information about things that were not part of the movie. Using characters to do that for you is a capital offense in scriptwriting. The other major problem with the script was that Indiana Jones was simply dragged through by other characters and other developments. Indy of old wouldn't have stood for that. Indy of old got into situations on purpose and got out them with the perfect mix of skill, luck, and tooth skin. This new incarnation just has junk happen to him and is sort of just there to solve problems that the viewer has put together eight to twelve minutes ago.
To say more would get into spoiler territory, so I won't, but I will say that the big revelations of the movie, save one, are absolutely film school. The previous moral through parable set-up is done and gone. It's now: HERE is moral. Explain moral HERE for folks who didn't plug in. Don't see this movie if you even like the Indiana Jones trilogy. I love Indiana Jones. I love Steven Spielberg. I hated IJatKotCS. In fact, that's the sound I made when I got out if the theater and huddled over a toilet, my head spinning with how-could-they-do-this-es.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

While this would be considered a "must see" for any Indiana Jones fan, the story is over the top and really doesn't fit with the previous movies. It most closely matches up with Temple of Doom, which, in my eyes was the weakest of the first 3 movies.
Cinematic effect was great. Transition from 30's to 50's was effective, story just too far fetched for this series. Could have done much better with the ending instead of the science fiction flair.

After such a long gap in Indiana Jones movies, it was great to hear that music again and see Indy flying through his stunts as well as he ever did! The unrealistic portions of the movie may be the base as to why we go to movies -- to escape our own realities. The surprise ending allows one to leave the theatre with a light heart. Thanks to SP, the movie cast and crew for one more successful project. Looking forward to the next sequel and hope it does not take ten years!

I loved this movie. Yes, the stunts were silly and he is getting older, but I felt like a kid again watching Indiana Jones in the theater. Hearing the music and watching the adventure hunt was so much fun. And I loved Cate Blanchett in this one. She was great! I would see it before taking young children. Some parts were a little scary.

Formula, formula, formula. This version of Indiana Jones follows tired old formulas that are tiresomely reminiscent of the last (yawn) National Treasure fiasco. The first twenty minutes or so were fun, but after that, when the mush plot started invoking extra terrestrials... Be afraid, viewer, be very afraid. And then try to stay awake.

We seldom go to movies because it is hard to find something we both like. It was our 35th wedding anniversay and we have both enjoyed Indiana Jones films. This one was great with Indy getting older just like we are. We loved the special affects and wondered if Harrison did his own stunts this time. We doubt it.

Harrison is back as Indy... I felt he did a great job reprising his role as Junior in this fourth installment to the Indy series. Sound effects were traditional Indy sounds (did they still smash heads of cabbage for that face punching sound??) which was great! As an Indy fan, I would recommend this movie to anyone who is simply an Indy fan. Acting was terrific, action was was fun and stimulating. This being said...
Shia was fun to watch but I don't know if he will have the draw as future Indys.
Are Indy's clothes baggy? Unkept is his style but baggy?
I thought the punch-line was a little too incredulous even for Indy.
One of the things lacking in this episode was Indiana's draw on his own knowledge. It seemed more times than not the answers to the riddles and clues were given to him. It was too easy. I missed his traditional figure things out and explain them along the way. Yes it was there, but it didn't have the feel of previous Indys.
In the end, it was a fun movie to watch, It is a great addition to the Indy series and I would recommend this to anyone who is an Indy fan or an action/comedy fan as Indy is the best of both breeds. Its non-stop and the dialogue is snappy and fun.
Enjoy!

I am a huge Indy fan...however, I thought this movie was just lacking. The CG just JUMPED out at me so bad it was out of place. In addition, the storyline was kind of horrible. I am one of those that didn't really like Temple of Doom because of the story. I think had Spielberg kept closer to the overall story of the crystal skulls it could have worked...or even did an Indy film on Atlantis. The whole thing was just a mess for me. I wouldn't tell someone to NOT go see it...but I would tell them to be prepared. They dropped the ball on this one fellas...

I enjoyed the movie... but was a bit disappointed from what all the hype built it up to. Some of the graphics were a bit cheesy (the groundhogs were completly pointless and the monkeys just utterly lame) or overly polished, and one of the things I love most about the Indiana Jones trilogy is their roughness. But still, it was Indiana Jones in all his glory, and if you are a fan, you will enjoy it, even if the plot is a wee bit thin. I still liked this one better than Temple of Doom, but the Last Crusade is still my favorite!

This movie was about what I expected. Tons of action, special effects, and mystery. I thought it was a fitting bookend to the series. The only problem I had was with some of the characters:Granted,Ford is older, but I thought he was O.K. LeBeouf cast as a tough motorcycle gang member was absolutely ridiculous, while Karen Allen appeared to be really old in some shots. Overall,I'd give this movie about 4 stars and it's one my wife and I would say:"See it in the theatre" as opposed to rent it on DVD.

Much like many others I had waited many years for this movie and was expecting nothing but the best but I left the theater feeling a bit let down. Harrison Ford was great and still looks the part and it was great to see Karen Allen back again, but...well, the special effects were less than spectacular. I was expecting more from Speilberg and Lucas. And Cate Blanchett's character was a waster of her fine acting talents. That being said this movie is till worth seeing, but I fear that those who did not grow up seeing the other Indy films will leave the theater not quite satisfied. But all in all I'm glad they finally brought Indy back even if the movie was not as good as the others...he can still crack that whip!
