So Lucas made us wait 20 years for a new Indiana Jones movie, but the target audience is the same as the others: adolescents. Not that the movie wasn't fun to watch, it just has an immature plot and character development, plus some childish antics that I'm sad to admit are still funny to me. The old fans are thrown a bone in the beginning with the movie starting out in the warehouse that the Ark is taken to in the first movie, complete with the same music playing in the background as the camera scans over the boxes.
Plot: The plot is reasonable, with the riddles in ancient languages and turns of events leading Indy and friends to ancient South America.
Characters: Almost all cardboard, except for Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), who learns respect for his archaeologist heritage.
Acting: Shia LaBeouf is talented, as always, but he's not as endearing as he was in Transformers. Harrison Ford has his game face on, which is impressive considering he hasn't done anything like this in years. Cate Blanchett, who is normally excellent, is not cast well in her role as the evil KGB scientist. And her British accent sneaks through on many occasions as she attempts to sound Russian.
Overall: Go see this movie to be entertained. Don't look for realism. Try not to be put off by the many scientific inconsistencies. Picture the movie you are watching as a comic book story for the kids and you will have a good time.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
