I love Julia Roberts' movies but this one didn't live up to my expectations. Although her acting was fine - the spaghetti eating scene was delicious - the plot/flow of the movie itself dragged on and on and on. I had a difficult time reading the book for the same reason but hoped that the movie could avoid redundancy...it didn't.

I liked this movie... I read the book but the enjoyed the movie just as well. Julia Roberts was great... the part fit her personality. I think that a lot of women dream of traveling to another country to just explore and maybe see what happens... I could live this out through her character... What if? It was a little hard to distinguish when she was going to her next destination for those who didn't read the book but other than that... I liked it and will see it again.

The theater was packed. Possibly 300+ women and about 10 guys. We knew, generally, what to expect .... and the movie fell within those expectations. I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would as I went with the flow and looked at it like a well-filmed travelogue with a "back-story". The acting was fine - especially Richard Jenkins. It's just that there was not a whole lot to empathize with. Julia Roberts did her best to portray the narcissistic lead character but she almost made her too likable. Perhaps women will relate better to this movie as it stimulates fantasies of "leaving everything behind" to "find oneself". Genetically speaking guys may simply have a more difficult time relating. Gorgeously filmed.

The movie had a lot of wisdom which can be implemented in one's life if only we are willing to listen.Julia Roberts makes the journey believable and we the viewers go along for the ride.The food shown on the screen looked so delectable it was just as well I had my lunch..those visuals made me hungry!!The journey through the ashram in India gave a window to people who have no idea how spirituality is practiced there.The wisdom and philosophies are current and make sense now even more because of the rat race kind of lives we lead.

I, too, went with a group of girlfriends and I think the experience made it the most fun. The move was really good and the money was well spent. I agree that it was a little slow at first and I have read critics say that the characters were poorly developed, but if that truly is so, I must be blind. I cried during several scenes, so did many of my girlfriends, and the climax of the movie was reserved for the very end, just like a truffle. Javier was excellent in his role, and it was a total 360 from seeing him in "No Country For Old Men", which still kind of freeks me out when I think about it.

I read the book and was glad to see that the movie followed it to a T! The sites were beautiful and the actors easily fell in to their roles, as if they had experienced these things first hand. I loved every minute of this movie...the honesty, the emotion, humbly embracing life's curve balls...loved it! I identified with this character a lot, as I'm sure lots of women will. Although I had thought about travelling to Italy before I saw Eat, Pray, Love....the desire has turned to MUST GO. The scenery, shooting, camera angles and timing in this movie truly present the places that Liz travels to in an amazing light. I did not read the book, so cannot compare but thought the story was amazing and poignant, although a younger viewer (21 and younger), may not appreciate it and not be able to relate to it.

The movie beautifully captured the essence of each location, Julia was a joy to watch (as always) and the underlying thread of the movie was an inspiring one.

Saw the movie after reading the book... very difficult to connect with the main character in the movie. The book was a different story... more details were offered about her and her deepest thoughts, both practical and humorous, were made known. I did not relate to the character in the movie at all and did not find myself routing for her. Too much attention was paid to the portion of the movie where she is in New York going through her divorce... more emphasis should have been put on her transformation and discovery of self. Not enough attention was given in India where she experiences some very deep connections with the heavens and herself, major achievements that clearly displayed her growth and strength. Please read the book, because there is a lot to get out of it, but the movie is pretty much a drone in my opinon.

This was a great movie. It moves fast-you have to remember that it all happens over at least 14 months. The other fan was right--the book has so many wonderful details they could not squeeze into the movie. I am glad I read it first. Great script, great Cinematography. Makes you want to get on a plane! As always I enjoy seeing Julia Roberts, but this movie did not give her much to do. Smile look teary eyed or cry. The movie did follow the book but then I thought Elizabeth in the book was such a whiner. At least Julia Roberts brought it above this level.
