As for setting up for the next two movies there were a lot of things. Stuff like Dumbledore not knowing that Voldemort had been using Horcruxes make no sense since, why would he be looking for the cave and the ring if he hadnt suspected horcruxes (this is all fine in the book since he does suspects that horcruxes are involved). Or when he acts as if the horcruxes could be anything. This screws everything up for the next movies since harry will have no idea what to look for(which also is fine in the book because Dumbledore tells him the origin of the ring, necklace and book).
Dont get me wrong. I like the movie by itself, but as a part of the series it is very unexplainy and dont set itself up well for the next movies.

The Half-Blood Prince was a good movie. There was action, romance, comedy (very nicely done at that), and suspense, but key plot components are missing from the movie that were in the book. On top of missing important steps to make the movie flow better, the directors confabulated scenes that weren't in the book and make no sense whatsoever. The movie is good, it is an okay addition to the series, but I really hope that they figure out where they went wrong with this and deliver an amazing finale.

Those of us who have read the books are always a little disappointed that certain plots and Charcters are left out. We know that it all can't be put into the movie. But as far as movies go, it was brillant! The acting the specail effects, the cinemetography, were all great! I think those who haven't read the books will walk away happy and satisfied that it was money well spent! Great story telling! Can't wait for the last two movies!

I attended the movie with my 13 year old grandson. We have seen all the Harry Potters together. The acting of these young people was great. I love watching these three young adults mature before our eyes, and the story line grows along with them. We thought this was the best one yet and am already looking forward to more.

As expected, the cinematography was terrific with the usual steps forward in CGI. The acting was also excellent. The 2 and 1/2 hours went by quickly. On the down side, I'm sure it was a tall order with the length of the story, but it seemed that other than romantic stuff there wasn't much to the movie but a quick march to the final confrontation.

As a nonreader of the books - for me the HP movies have progressively gotten better and each has left me with a greater desire to see the next. The HBP however was very disappointing. The end of HP5 ended with such a bang and left the impression that the HP world was on the brink of a full scale war between good and evil. HBP however felt like a 2-1/2 hour nap between HP5 and HP7 Part 1. It was very anticlimatic and most of the best parts of the movie are in the trailer. My wife saw it with me and she has read the book series multiple times - she was also very disappointed. She was especially disappointed about the omittance of the battle scene at Hogwarts. The only bright spots were the few laughs and the special effects.

Great movie! I loved it, although being a TRUE Harry Potter fan, I have read all of the books NUMEROUS times.. they took a LOT out and put stuff in there that wasn't the same... but taking in the movie just for the MOVIE series.. it was very dark and sad.. and wonderful. The art direction was AMAZING.. well shot film.. lots of placed to laugh as well. A great transition into the next two movies!

I think the movie was overall real good, and compared to other movies (like Goblet of Fire, where like half the book was skiped) I believe Half-Blood Prince did an awesome job. Yea, it did of course, miss a few points here and there but I believe that 98% of those points missed were necessary, such as transitions from one place to the other, or little stuff that happpened in the book to simply make it "realistic." The only three things I wish they had done just like in the book, is when leaving the cave, that Harry had been actually paralyzed during Dumbledore's assasination, and the fight in the end.

Although filled with dark shadows, chases, and endless inuendos about "The Dark Lord", the movie simply lacked a clear and coherent conflict. Unlike the other movies in which young innocents were sent on a mission to prevent the destruction of the school/world, in this patchwork episode late teenagers wander about in teen anxst commenting on a situation in which evil lurks in the background. The clear cut purpose of the other movies has been lost. After enduring 2 1/2 hours of special effects, and a clumsy attempt to make "Harry Potter" a serial by leaving the audience at the end on a cliff hanger, barely 20 people clapped; most filed out in shocked silence. The only reason that I recommend seeing it, is because of the series fame.

The Art Direction and Cinematography were exceptional. The whole LOOK was wonderful down to the potion bottles and I want to live in the Weasley home.
Jim Broadbent stole the show, which is no small feat when he shares the screen with Alan Rickman, Maggie Lewis, and Michael Gambon.
Some nice dramatic moments, quirky humorous ones, and Luna Lovegood was a delightful addition (was she in previous films?).
But...ultimately, the movie showed itself to be exactly what it was...an installment of a series. The lack of closure or narrative completeness left it no better than a mediocre movie.

I enjoyed the movie very much and will recommend it to friends. However, I was disappointed that many of the scenes that I had anticipated seeing were not included in the movie. The movie did not follow the book or explain the story as well as it should have. Some were added (such as Weasley house burning) and others were missing (who was Greyback - Fleur and Bills engagement). The beginning was totally out of character for Harry Potter and inappropriate for a boy who just turned 16. Also I was looking forward to hearing Dumbledore wring out the Dursley's regarding their treatment of Harry. I'm glad the next book will be divided between two movies as one movie did not due justice to The Half Blood Prince.

Harry Potter fans will love it but those of us who read the books over and over might miss some pretty critical scenes and characters. I was looking forward to the fight between the some of the Order/DA members and the Death Eaters prior to Dumbledore's final scene....it didn't happen. Also - the addition of the Weasley house scene around the holidays was a little unexpected...However, for condensing a huge book into a 2 1/2 hour movie - it was really pretty good. There were some really humorous moments - and Harry (Daniel), although always likeable - has become quite a good actor. I'd watch it again - and probably will.

My favorite HP movie yet!!! Followed the books well; in the only (few) places it didn't, it actually added to the movie and how real it felt to the viewers. 10 STARS!

I guess I didnt like the book that much because of the romantic stuff but other than the ending was awesome. I did like that this gives us the inner working of Lord Voldemort.

I really enjoyed this newest film and once again can't wait for the next one. I'll probably have to see it a couple times more as I've done before because I was a little confused and probably missed a lot that led to my confusion. There are no potty breaks in this move. If you left, you missed a lot. This was truly a different path than the original movies and I'm glad it has taken this turn. It sure wasn't the same old Potter movie. Moving the group into adulthood was a challenge and it was well done and directed.

I cannot wait to see this one again! I think it is the best one yet! Loved the humor & all the graphics. I thought the lake scene was amazing! How long do we have to wait for the next movie?!?

If all I wanted to see was expensive sets and raging hormones, I would have been thrilled. But I wanted more. I expected the brilliant plotting and character development that makes HP unique. IMHO, the screenwriter simply hasn't read the series! Motivations missing. Key plot points glossed over or mutated. Pointless drivel added. And since when is Harry a coward???? Honestly... standing around in the shadows while Dumbledore gets killed??? This is supposed to be the same young man who faces Voldemort himself on a yearly basis! Definitely an epic movie. An epic fail.

The book was followed pretty closely. Draco Malfoy was alot more developed in the film. The love stories in it were really good. I have to say that the battle at the school is not in the film and that was disappointing. After Albus dies Harry went downstairs and their were students fighting death eaters in the book. Hagrid fought some of them as well in the book. This was not in the movie. Above all though it was done pretty well.
