You won't be given the luxury of a "bring you up to speed" scene or two, they simply open the movie running full speed! I think that is why some people are claiming it's "choppy" or "all over the place"...there is just too much to show in such little time.
However, the special effects were AMAZING!! The kids are so grwon up and look great!! The lack of an ending battle is a bit anti climatic, but any true Harry Potter fan will love this movie and be left panting for the next!!!!

I went to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince at midnight. I was not expecting it to be like the book at all, as I had heard it was the most inaccurate to the books so far. I have read all the books and I have to say that this series of Harry Potter is awesome. Sure it trails away from the books, but what book turned to movie doesn't at one time or another. I liked what they did with this movie. It made me laugh, cry, and scared me a little too. I would recommend this movie, but to those diehard book fans, don't go into this movie thinking it will be like the book you will be disappointed.

This installment of HP has been the best one yet. Although it does not stick to the book as closely as other ones have, the moments where it strays are entertaining or heart-wrenching, and the funny moments are more than enough to make up for it. Its humorous and the on-screen chemistry between couples is fantastic. See this movie... you'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll want to see it again.

It was great! True enough to the book, awesome visual effects, great acting by Prof. Slughorn especially. Try not to see it with too many young girls in the audience, the screaming over awkward eye contact between Ron and Hermione was quite distracting.

Overall, I liked the movie. As with all past movies, it was not exactly like the book, but it was much closer than I was anticipating. There were noticable differences, and clearly deleted parts, but overall, I think it worked out O.K. It was also much funnier than past movies, and not overly drawn out. Obviously not as good as the book, but good as far as the movies go.

The movie covered a lot that was in the book. It was exciting from start to finish. There were a bunch of things that were left out from the book that you really wanted to be seen on screen. Too bad this one wasn't broken up into 2 movies also to cover everything. But it was still a really good movie in the series. By far the best Harry Potter movie. The colors in the scenes, especially in the cave was breathtaking. There were some scenes that were deleted, most notably the fight at the end. I would have loved to see that. Draco's confliction was spot on. What a great actor he turned out to be. Slughorn was the best. So funny, well done. The romance between Ron and Hermione worked well but I was a little disappointed with the Ginny and Harry romance. Overall, I loved it! I would pay to see it again. Great job.

My friends and I had to sit on the front because of some technical difficulties the theater had, but it still didn't ruin the movie. It had comedy, romance, action, a bit of horror ( I think...). It was well made, except that as ALWAYS they skipped some good parts from the book-so that's a bummer. Also, it felt somewhat rushed to get to the end...otherwise definitely see it, has some really good talent ranging from the actors, directors, and special effects.

The "Half-Blood Prince" is two and a half hours of set-up for the extremely exciting final chapter, or so I am told. What we have here is not so much. Instead of a receiving the impact of a beginning, middle and end... we get a lot of meandering.
It should be noted that this slow pace did not disappoint all of young fans who viewed the film with me. It was like we were seeing different movies.
I did not read the books, but have been a fan of all the films except this one.
I really wanted to like it.

I am always torn with the Harry Potter movies because I just love the books so much and i definately miss the great subplots and craftsmanship that they usually lack due to the time constraints. All in all this was a great adaptation of penultimate chapter in the HP story. My only issue was the very end which i felt came off rushed. It was such a significant "moment" for the whole series that i thought they could have spent 5 more minutes or so giving it detail. Regardless, its better than anything else you could see in a theater this summer with possibly the exception of Star Trek.

I was fortunate enough to read the book prior to seeing the movie so I was able to fill-in the gaps; however, I viewed this movie with someone did not read the series of books and there was a lot of explanation that had to be given along the way. All-in-all, it was a great film that had me ready for the next installment. I was never disappointed and I was pleased to see that the main characters were maturing in their roles and in their acting abilities. This made the film all the more enjoyable and one that I can't wait to add to my Blue Ray Collection! Wonderful special affects and cinematography that kept you on the edge of your seat whether you know the story line or not!!

This film, in my humble opinion, was a stepping stone to setting up the final two movies. Definitely a happier movie, although some scenes appear dark and dreary. More emphasis on love interests. Periodically re-introduces characters you have seen before, but doesn't tie well into the whole film. The ending is sad, of course, but true Harry Potter fans will look forward to the concluding movies. I think the PG rating fits very well - there is nothing in the movie to truly scare or scar young fans.

The visuals were spectacular on the big screen, transporting me into a world of magic. This movie is especially recommended for fans of the series. I went with other friends who were not as impressed, some even sleepy after we got out of the theater. Being a fan, I was wide awake and full of awe. Of course it's not like the book, but I already expected that! They can't cram in all of the great details of the novel into 2.5 hours, especially with all the visuals needed for creation.

Overall, a well-executed, entertaining film. But it was lackluster & fell short in many ways. It's a film made for people who have read the books- in that it expected you to know many things and didn't explain or fill in many areas that it needed to. But, for these same reasons, it also really disappointed true fans of the novels, in that it wasted time on unnecessary moments that didn't play out or develop to anywhere. The time could have been far better spent on explaining plot lines that needed to be explained- for example- who is the Half- Blood Prince and WHY? I mean, after all, the movie is called Harry Potter and the HALF-BLOOD PRINCE! That story line should not have been left to the last 10 minutes of the film.

If you haven't read the books, then you will probably enjoy this movie more than I did. It wasn't that they cut out so much information, as it was the lack of emotion and connection. I felt that the death portryed in this movie was glossed over. It took all of 5 minutes of screen time and the funeral was over and the characters were back discussing relationships. In the book, there is so much more emotion put into the loss of characters, that I think the movies haven't been able to capture.

This movie is the best by far. They stayed closer to the book then I thought they would. I've seen it twice now.

As a huge fan of the novels, this is the worst movie adaptation yet. They deleted a considerable amount of vital information and added scenes that were completely irrelevant. The humor was entertaining and it was well acted but if you haven't read this novel you'll find this movie confusing. The ending was seriously anticlimactic and severely disappointing to those who know the novel and know it could have been SO much better.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I'd like to be able to give the first half an A and the second a C-. (spolier alert) No battle, no funeral!! Loved the more lingering look at the Great Hall, the time at the Burrow and the magic being demonstrated a little more-things I've longed for in previous movies. Aragog and Hagrid: A; Slughorn: A; the cave: A; but the choices made in editing(waaay too much Hermione crying on Harry) made the movie long and then, abruptly, it was over.

I loved the movie however, I would have liked to have seen more battles and I agree with some of the other movies reviews about the funeral at the end. Also what Harry, Ron, and Herminone decided to do next. I think that would have set the mood for the next movie.
