The movie definitely left out some major parts that were in the book. But if the screenwriters put in every detail, every situation then the first part of the movie would be 4-5 hours long. Plus i accept that not every movie is going to be an identical replica of the book it derived from. This being said, I loved what they did with the movie. It ended in a perfect place and i can't wait for the 7th movie to come out. Graphics were excellent and Acting was great. Overall very satisfied.

I write this as an adult and parent of children who loved reading the books and has someone who saw the last HP movie 3X in the theatre. The heart of the book rested on Harry and Dumbledore's exploration of Tom Riddley's origins, path to evil, and acquisitions of the prizes he converted to horcruxes. There is but a smidgen of this in the film (yet, they felt compelled to add a scene that doesn't appear in the book). The charitable side of me senses that perhaps there is an intended blending of books 6 and 7 on the screen, and that some of this will appear later. My less than charitable side wants to know if the director actually read the book.

I have not read any of the Harry Potter books so for me I like the movies for entertainment purposes. I found it to be slow starting and just seemed to touch on certain subjects and then let them fade away. Hermine and Ron do they like each other? What is up with Professor Snape? and on and on. When a beloved character like Dumbledore dies it should be built up to mean something! Instead Harry's kiss with Jenny W(a pretty seductive girl I might add) was made to be the apex of the film. I just thought movie fell short or what was expected. It was not very dark...the previous film was darker and better crafted.

I have been a fan of the books and the films and was amazed at the accuracy between the book and the film. The direction was terrific, and our stars, Grint,Watson & Radcliff are at the tip of their game. I'm looking forward to the last 2 and I still enjoy listing to the CD version narrated by Jim Dale. I found HP & the H-B Prince to be the most enjoyable in the series. In places the film was not faithful to the book, but I felt this liberty was taken to improve the dramatic impact of the film. There are not many films that I will see in theaters twice but this is one of them. My entire family was thrilled and I highly recommend it.

This was my favorite book only behind "The Deathly Hallows" and I came in with high hopes. The beginning held very true to the book, but after about an hour they started adding scenes unnecessarily and leaving out important "memories" of Voldemort's youth. I felt that they really missed the mark here and I was even more shocked to find that Ralph Fiennes doesn't even make an appearance in this film. He plays the part of the villain so well it would have been nice to see how he got that way. Overall I enjoyed myself, but I was very disappointed with the story that they chose to tell. J.K. Rowling's story was very different in my mind.

While I was disappointed to see a lot of things cut from the book transfer to film, it was a necessary evil for David Yates to successfully achieve a PG rated version. He still held it together and stayed true to the heart of the story. Everyone did great with their performances. Great score by Nicholas Hooper as well.

Being an avid Harry Potter reader I was really looking forward to this movie. I was disappointed to say the least. Crucial information was lost in this teenage love story. I thought I was going to see an adventure/ fantasy film not the trials and tribulations of a teenage romance. However, I love Harry Potter and I will continue to watch (however the books are portrayed). The next two movies better make up for this one.

Well, my boyfriend doesn't read the books so he thinks it was great. I, on the other hand have read them a million times over. At what point does the Weasley house go up in flames!?!?! It was a good movie, but as for being true to the book it's really bad. I love Harry Potter and I will continue to see and buy the movies...but PLEASE get it right on the last 2 movies!!!

I feel that the movie followed the book fairly well. Some things were changed and others left out, but the overall feel and message of the book was well played out. It was good to see the bond between Harry and Hermione being strengthened. The Drama of the ending left an empty spot and had it followed the story, it might have given some closure but, I assume these things will be covered in the next movie. It is great to see all of the characters grow and change.

This was a great movie. Once again Warner Bros. did us proud. My expectations were exceeded. And as an added bonus, this movie was a change from the last two dark and suspenceful HP's. This one was light-hearted, and comical. I enjoyed it and will watch it again and again. This may well be my favorite yet.

Truly a masterful film. I had a huge problem with Ginny Weasley, not only was her "acting" sub-par but her hair, if I'm not quite mistaken, was brown... I was a little nervous about Slughorn's actor but I feel he turned out to be a perfect fit. I was terribly depressed because I thought a huge battle was supposed to take place in the castle between the students and the death eaters. Don't see why one would choose to leave that out of a movie.
Overall, even though this goes without saying, it is a must see if you enjoy a great story with generally great actors. The 3 kids have come a long way.

First of all, I am a Harry Potter freak. All the books I devoured in a couple of days each. Story-wise, this film has to succeed. This book sets up the big finale in the final book. If I were not such a huge fan of the books, I probably would give this 5 stars...but I know what we're missing. Only one thing forces me to deduct 1 star. The ending! Harry is supposed to be stupified by Dumbledore himself, then watch, frozen, as his hero and mentor is killed.

It has all the magic of the others movies... WITH AWESOME GRAPHICS! Lots of the scenes are filmed like documentaries, which adds to the chaos. But they made a mistake with burning down the Burrow, because where are they going to do Bill and Fluer's wedding? Nice try, person who did that, but I read the book SEVEN TIMES, and not once did it get distroyed. The rest is perfect.

This is an excellent film in the canon. Beautifully crafted and acted! The resolution is unsatisfying but that's what's gonna happen when you break up a book into two separate films. Ultimately, I think I'll be more happy about this one once it's joined by the next one in the series.

I just accept that the movies will NEVER be as good as the books. Important stuff gets left out. But, we thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The special effects were terrific and the acting gets better every time. We both enjoyed the gentle love stories. The battle at Hogwarts was short-changed. THIS IS NOT A MOVIE FOR KIDS! Intense conversations with complicated relationships, well beyond children's comprehensions. Even adults have to pay attention here. The magic is always there, literally and metaphorically. I anticipate the new movie, go to see it, but it’s a bittersweet experience for all Harry Potter fans – we know it is coming to an end sooner than later.

The effects in this movie were great, just like the others. There was too much teen interaction, I believe. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but they didn't show at all who the new Minister for Magic was and I dont recall them mentioning that Fudge resigned. I was also disappointed that they didn't show the battle at Hogwarts towards the end, nor did they show Dumbledors funeral. They didn't focus a lot on the Half Blood Prince's book. But i know that you can only fit so much into a two hour movie, the book is about 700 pages. But i would reccomend this movie to friends. It was good, just not the best.

slyman72 basically wrote my review for me.
Given that the book takes 20+ hours to read and that an author can jam a lot of detail into a few words colored by the reader's imagination, there's not much you can do in 2h30m to faithfully reproduce that. If the movie had been 14 hours long, a 'Lord Of The Rings in one bite', those who panned it here would have praised it.

I think that this is the real low point in the film series so far. While Jim Broadbent was excellent and it was satisfying to receive more bits of story related to Tom Riddle, the screenplay was a dud that left me wondering how the creators could not have realized its deficiencies. As the reverse of previous films where they had too much story and not enough time to tell it, HBP laboriously stretched 90mins at most of solid story over 2hrs33mins with no sense of climax or reveal. I left confused and unsatisfied. I know I'll watch this movie again, but not because I enjoyed it the first time. I'll watch it on DVD (not in theaters again) because I want to understand WTF this movie was about.

I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I was amazed when the end credits started rolling, I didn't think I had been watching the movie for two and a half hours. The special effects are fantastic - at one point I felt like I was flying through London on a broom. As usual Dan, Rupert & Emma were wonderful, as well as everyone else. I won't give anything away - just go see it for yourself. I loved it and can't wait till it comes out on DVD.

I thought this movie was FANTASTIC. A lot of people think that this is a filler movie because there aren't a lot of Michael Bay-esque explosions. If you are that ADD that you need constant "action" to keep your attention, then you should have just went to see Transformers. My only complaint is that while some elements of the movie were overexplained, other important areas seemed to happen for no reason. This wasn't a problem for me because I've read all the books twice, but it was for my girlfriend who only watches the movies and had to keep asking what was happening (especially with Draco). Regardless, we both LOVED the movie. Acting was top-notch and the special effects, as usual, just keep getting better and better.

By this point, if you haven't read the books, you will not have all of the master plot information, and the movies don't have the time to give you everything. It's been that way from the start and won't change now.
The challenge is to make good movies BASED on the books and this film does an excellent job of that. Some scenes and plot points have been relocated from their "by-the-book" placement, whole sub-plots are missing entirely, but the end result is good theater. J.K. Rowling's comedy gets a lot of exposure which helps diffuse the dark tone.
We'll get the DVD for the deleted scenes and will enjoy seeing this one again.
