This movie left out some very important aspects of this story. It relied too heavily on viewers having read the book. Important issues such as the focus and wonderment of the potions book that belonged to the Half Blood prince, Draco's reasons for being so upset that he vomited in the bathroom, the full reasons for the unbreakable vow, and the inaccuarcies surrounding Dumbledores death, no fighting shown in the castle, etc.... too much was taken for granted. All in all, it still is a very nice movie, acting was much better - for once Hermione was not shrieking so much that she was hoarse and ill tempered, and neither was Ron. Some of the humor in the movie was a welcome relief from past movies.

I played hooky to see this movie at a matinee on a Thursday - I have read all the books and seen all the movies - thoroughly enjoyed Half Blood Prince - the mood was consistent with the book and the cinematography was beautiful, as ever. Obviously a few details from the book were not in the movie - that is what adaptation means - overall it was one of my favorite Potter films.

It was a good movie, but not as good as the other Harry Potter movies. There wasn't as much action. It didn't leave you sitting on the edge of your seat, and It didn't seem to go along with the other movies. I hope the next two movies are better.

The storeline followed the book pretty well but there was just no "pazzaz!" to this movie. It was very mondane and uneventful, even the "climatic" ending was not done that well. For those of you who have not seen the movie yet or read the book, this movie is just ok. Read the book and you will see what I mean.

Excellect cinematography, great transitions. Tom Riddle & Horace Slughorn are perfectly cast-- and Michael Gambon gets Dumbledore just right (finally!) Most of the comic relief was well placed-- however I could have done without most of the awkward teenage moments. Some dialogue could have been added about the purpose of Dumbledore and Harry's meetings, as well as ideas about who the Half-Blood Prince might be, and what kind of person he is (brilliant? or just evil?) Unlike some of the other movies, this one hints at important things to come, and seems to attempt to connect to things that happened in previous movies. Overall, incredibly well done-- I can't wait to see it again!

I felt there were two completely seperate stories happening with little to no connection between the two. The script was very poor and gave the actors little to work with. Most characters who were very diverse in past movies fell flat because the screenwriter seemed to forget to give them the chance to show their personalities. I know it is hard to fit so much story into one book but the writer could have spent more time focused on the main story and less on adding content that was redundant and sometimes completely different from the original story. Considering all this, the art direction was beautiful and the actors were amazing considering what they were given to work with.

Excellent adaptation of the books, even though some of the major scenes have been left out and a few added that are not in the book. The new scenes work very well, and who knows, perhaps some of the funeral scenes will be added to the last two movies. All in all, two thumbs up. Cinematography is awesome. Good job.

The Harry Potter books will always be better than the movies. The intricate details in the books can never be captured in just a few hours time on the silver screen. So prior to watching the show, I did NOT reread the books because I wanted to enjoy the movie experience. I definitely did. Where the fifth movie felt rushed, this movie did not. I left the movie theater thinking that this might actually be one of my favorite Harry Potter movies to date. The actor playing Professor Slughorn was perfect in his role. I laughed through the bumbling romantic entanglements and felt that this movie combined humor and seriousness perfectly. Just make sure you do NOT read the book prior to watching the movie and you will enjoy the experience.

Now I knew before going in that I would really enjoy this movie. That being said I did read the 6th book but I haven't reread it so that might be why I enjoyed it more than other Harry Potter fans. I think they did spend a little too much time on the romance in this even though I enjoyed watching it. Regardless it was never going to be that accurate to the book just like the previous movies but this is still a great watch. Just don't expect strict canon, you need to read the book for that.

the movie was boring. i jumped once, but i'm not sure if it was from the movie or the kid snoring next to me. i was very let down and the movie only skimmed over alot of the book. i was also let down at the end . i just kept waiting for the movie to get good...and kept waiting for 2 1/2 hrs.... don't get me wrong, there were a few funny and exciting parts , but i wished i would have waited for the dvd and saved my money.of all the harry potter movies, i cared for this one the least.

I re-read the book prior to seeing the movie and I'm very disappointed. There are so many things left out that are important. The potions book of the Half Blood Prince's was one of the main focus' in the book but I think barely touched on in the movie. I know they can only fit so much in during a 2-1/2 hour movie, maybe this one should have been longer than that or possibly two parts as well. I explained things from the book that were left out of the movie to my family so they would have a better understanding of why and what it all meant. Better luck on the Deathly Hollows, hope I'm not disappointed in that one as well.

The Half-Blood Prince is totally different from the previous Harry Potter movies. Sure it had the basic plot similar to the book, but in my opinion too much of the original story was left out . They focused on too much side activities that left me wondering why they left out so many key points that the book had to offer. I really think the producer missed out on an opportunity to make an extremely good flick, as the book offered so much content that would have looked really nice on film. I think what people want to see in the next films is something that covers more of the plot in the book. Luckily, the Deathly Hallows is split in two, so they will have potentially 6 hours to cover the whole ending. Overall, it wasn't a bad movie though.

Really impressed! Although they did cut some things out (which I expected), this is my favorite out of all the Potter movies. The actors have really gotten the characters down pat, (Snape is terrific in this one) and the movie has some great special effects. Cannot WAIT for the 7th movie!!

I thought the 5th movie left a LOT out, so I was skeptical walking into this one. I was happily surprised by how much they managed to squeeze in! There are some changes, but most of the movie stays very true to the book, and the supporting characters are finally, truly given a chance to shine. A wonderful movie!

That is pretty much the focus of this movie, I did not see a significant plot advance and watching Harry win and lose the same battles and make the same mistakes over again was not what I expected. You would think Harry being who he is would have grown into a formidable wizard by now; even if still young, no we are mostly back to book two in ability. I thought some of the special effects were good, but other than that I was dissaponted. There were many scenes that never happened in the book that they put in the movie. There were some very important scens in the book that were left out of the movie as well. It never talks about the Deathly Hallows (elder wand, resurection stone, and invisibility cloak). They are important in leading into the seventh book. You don't learn what any of the other horcruxes are like in the book. If you have to see it on the big screen, or can't wait, I would wait and rent it from the video store, because I don't think it is worth the money.

I made the mistake of reading the book first. Regretfully I have read the next book too. I don't recommend reading ahead. I think the movie left out a lot of information. I think they could have played up Harry's romace with Ginny. You missed valuable information in the movie that is in the book. After you see the movie, I recommend you read the book to fill in the missing info.

Very well paced. If you can get past the fact that it is impossible to squeeze a whole novel into a 2.5 hour movie, then you can live with the minor changes to this one. Art direction, cinematography, effects are all phenomenal. Acting and dialogue are pretty great too.

I'm a mom who took my 13 and 15 year old daughters to this movie. We are all huge HP fans. My 13 yr old and I were disappointed due to how many things happen that never occurred in the book. My 15 yr old hadn't read the book in awhile and thought it was good because she didn't remember all the details. Overall we enjoyed it, but wished they put some more action in.

I would recommend it to others to see, once. The movie script writter should remember when you are adapting from a book, you should cut a few things out, not rewrite entire chapters or add a new one all together. I was very disappointed in this movie. No wounder WB wanted to shelve it for 6+ months. It is an overall disgrace to HP. But, it is still work seeing. I did like the way they handled Snapes at the end but missed the entire fight scene in the school. Overall, has to be the worst and most disappointing movie out of the 6. Can only hope a better screen writter is working on the last 2 movies and staying more to the book.

Wahinevu04 says it all! I took two 11 year olds to see this movie and they were disappointed at the major themes left out and/or not fully covered. If you did not know the story line you would be confused--much malevolence is hinted at but never explained.

The movie is perfect. It keeps all of th elements needed to understand the plot, but leaves out some of the details that were not needed. I will definately see it again and again!
