great visuals here, quidditch in the snow was stunning, looked almost real.
some of the actors have truly become better at their acting craft (like harry and hermione), while others (like drago) really are becoming more dreadful, but this is the risk of having the same child actors grow up through a series who never really went to school for this.
it is amazing how far we have come from the sugar-coated first films, but like anakin skywalker, innocence gives way to rage and darkness.

Visually a feast. Not over the top. No glitz or bubble gum. Very serious then previous films. Effects were stupendous and seamless. I didn't think visual effects could get better but they proved me wrong! The romance wasn't too annoying, I maganed to ignore it enough. A wee bit long but Thanksgiving for the eyes and good story too!

I thought the main characters were excellent,but the editing seemed very sloppy. A lot of hanging phrases and worried looks just in air. Making this into a teen drama worked very well and provided a lot of humor as well as awkward intimate situations and vivid emotions. Jim Broadbent as Slughorn was a great choice and the story flowed pretty well but if you haven't seen the other movies it would be confusing.

I'm not going to lie, after the movie ended I felt kind of disappointed. I wish we would've learned more about Voldemort's past (which in my opinion was the most interesting part about book 6) instead of focusing on the subplot of the teenage romances. I feel like nothing really happened in this movie and there was no real climax. The action sequences were short and as soon as you got into them, they were over. THe acting in this movie was fantastic though .

The movie was very good overall, the fx were amazing. Being a huge fan of the books,there were 2 major disappointments, one being the ending. Cutting out the last battle in Hogwarts was a mistake. They just killed a major character and walked away without a fight, very unbelievable and very anticlimactic. The other disappointment is they did not leave in the mystery of what Draco was doing and how he was doing it. They showed the vanishing cabinet right from the beginning. Part of the fun of the books is the mystery and trying to figure out what is going on. They must think the audience is stupid and can't figure it out by themselves!

I saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last night and enjoyed it thoroughly. This morning I've been rereading Book 6 to check out the differences. There's definitely much that is different but that's OK. It felt like the screenwriter went through the book to get at the essence of what was happening and then modified, condensed or compacted scenes to make a movie that holds together within the limits of 2 1/2 hours of screen time.

The only great things about this movie are the exciting visual creation of Rowling's amazing world, and watching the kid actors age along with the script characters. This installment in the Potter series was the least faithful to the book, and as a result, it was our least favorite. In the very first scene, Dumbledore meets Harry in a coffee shop where Harry is flirting with the muggle waitress. In the book, Dumbledore met Harry at the Dursley's, and that was a much better scene. That's just the first instance. There are many others, which hurt the movie. Having said that, if you are a Potter afficianado, you will enjoy the movie despite all of its flaws - because it is, after all, Harry Potter.

If you're not familiar with the Harry Potter books, you'll find the plot a bit hard to follow. If you are familiar with the books, you'll find they took out too much in condensing the book into a movie, made the lake scene less scary (and less effective), and didn't fully develop the emotion that helps the book be so effective. The only actor who really gets to stretch his legs is the one who plays Malfoy, and he does a great job. The director also chose to insert scenes to give the villians a little more face time, that weren't in the book at all. Overall, it's a decent, entertaining film, but not as good as some of the previous efforts.

The acting and the movie was good. However I was not a fan of the newly created scenes, such as the opening one in the diner, and where the Weasleys house burned. Stick to the book! So many important facts were left out that a smooth transition into the 7th movie may not be possible for anyone who has not read the books. Especially the major fight scene at the end. What about the upcoming wedding of Bill and Fleur? And the effects of being bitten by the werewolf? Too much has been left out! Better to make a longer movie or even 2 movies than to just leave it out.

I definitely enjoyed the movie, but was still VERY disappointed. The development of the relationships of the kids was drawn out but still unbelievable. WAY too much Lavender. The seen that was not in the book added nothing to the movie. All of those could have been shortened to make room for the big battle scene at Hogwarts that I kept looking forward to at the end of the movie. Instead, they left it out entirely! Having been very disappointed with OOTP, my expectations were low for HBP, but I was so pleasantly surprised. The movie was excellent overall. Although I am a huge fan of the books, I was okay with the minor plot changes. HBP was better written, better directed and better acted than Yates' previous effort. The cinematography was gorgeous as well, and HBP didn't have the pacing problems of OOTP. My only criticisms are the sometimes inaudible dialogue (poor sound mixing) and the feeble musical score. The brilliant John Williams is SORELY missed!

First off my biggest pet peeve with movies based on books is the leaving out of plot lines that were featured in the books. The new Harry Potter flick had key plot points left out that were in the book. there were things left out that were especially important for the plot in the 7th book! I feel as if the story line of the 6th book does not have enough of a conflict in the book to build a good climax and resolution. at the end of the book and movie i felt as if the story was incomplete. and not incomplete as in it wasnt the last book, but a book as a whole. The previous Potter movies were better. It was more story than action/special effects. As the characters get older, more intellect is added to the films, which is ok but I wound up at the end asking "that was it"? It was good but not great like the others.

Its Harry Potter & part of the story so its ok, but it draaaagggged way too long, they could have used the time better, more action, more character development, anything, I know these next few two books are more drama than action, but still there was so much more that could have been done. I was ready to leave after the first hour..I kept thinking I would have enjoyed it more at home on DVD than in the theater.

I enjoyed the movie from beginning to end, even though it lacked lots of action; it was pleasurably fun and had lots of great humor. I loved the fact that Hermione was sooo in love with Ron; it was cute to see them finally together. I also enjoyed Harry and Ginnny they have an incredibly chemistry, just like Hermione and Ron, they are made for each other. Love the movie and can’t wait to see the next one…

Watching the characters grow up has been an adventure. Laughed, cried and totally enjoyed the movie. Hated to see Dumbledore die!!! Poor Harry loses somone he cares about every show.
