I've seen all the HP movies and my girl reads all the books. I took a half day off from work to take her to see this movie and it totally blew. It didnt pick up where the last one left off, the story line sucked and it omitted over half of the book. Very disappointed.

Movie does not attempt to strongly follow the book as the other HP movies tried and failed to do successfully. Having said that Potter Fans it was AWESOME and VERY ENTERTAINING!! Keeps you on the edge of your seat. At movies end after wiping your tears for the loss of our beloved Head Master you, along with the house, will clap for joy at having discovered who the Half Blood Prince is AND, more importantly, that the saga, at least for now, will continue :) LOVED IT!!

Great acting, special effects. Only criticism is that my spouse and I both wished they would not have cut out so much from it(when compared to the book.) I think I would have rather sat in a longer movie and not felt like I missed so much. Or they could have just split both of movies 6 and 7 into two so they weren't leaving out a bunch. But still an awesome movie. Fits the profile of the other Potter films.

The music was great but the movie was lacking. It just did not have the punch the other movies did and book 6 was really my favorite book from the entire series. To me the movie did not do the book justice. They should have eliminated the made up "I killed Sirius Black" scene and shot the funeral scene instead. Maybe that could have redeemed it. Go see it but I’ll be waiting to buy this movie until the end when all the movies are released as a set. Just a sad waste of a great HP book…..

I agree with everyone that said the end was not handled well. They really should have stuck to the way the book was written, I was very disappointed that there was no battle scene and no funeral. And the scene in the middle with the burrows burning down was pointless. Just a disappointing experience overall.

I enjoyed the movie, it was nice to see a move that had more story in it than special effects. I felt the movie was moving; it gives you an insight into the characters that the other movies did not. It brought back all those horrible memories of high school and puppy love. I would rate this among my 3 favorite HP movies.

The movie was excellent; however, I believe the subjects focused on (teenage romance, mostly) were too light for the overall feeling the book portrayed. The Dark Lord is supposed to be back, Death Eaters are reaking havoc everywhere, but Ron, Hermoine, and Harry are cracking jokes about snogging. The Order of the Phoenix, I thought, set an appropriate mood that this movie did not follow through on.
I also did not really understand the purpose of the scene at the Weasley's house or why, in the final scene, Harry was not immobilized.
Overall, I thought this movie was just a little less epic than I thought it would be, but still good nonetheless.

I admit, as an uber-geek fan of the books I tend to be hyper-critical as far as the movies are concerned, but this was a monster letdown! I mean, one line from Snape casually stating that he is the Half Blood Prince with no further explanation, come on!!?? It's the title of the movie for Pete's sake!! I was also disappointed that they did not include Dumbledore's funeral in the movie as it was so beautifully done in the book. And don't even get me started on the various artistic liberties (also know as the huge inconsistencies) between the book and the movie. Bottom line, if you're a fan, of course you are going to see the film. But prepare to be less than impressed. This is certainly the worst of the otherwise very well done saga.

Movie is lengthy, but the action keeps you totally engaged. The special effects, as expected, are fabulous. This movie shows more of the mature, sensitive side of the characters....builds on responsibilities and trust with friendships, yet younger viewers will appreciate the wizardry relationships more. I agree with previous reviewers - Dumbledore's death was not handled well AT ALL...Harry NEVER would have stood by while Dumbledore was killed. That was the whole reason Dumbledore immoblized him.
Burrow scene was pointless, and what was the deal with Ginny in the bathrobe?? Horribly unflattering to the actress, and it had no bearing on the story.

Although a bit long, this film did not disappoint. The action and effects were great as usual. However, this one gave us more humor and a wonderful glimpse into the personalities of Harry, Ron and Hermione. Be aware that there are some scenes which are quite intense and could be scary to young children.

I'm a HUGE fan of the books, so am never happy when too many liberties are taken with the film version. This film, though beautifully shot, felt lacking. ***(SPOILER ALERT)***(SPOILER ALERT)*** If you haven't read the books, stop here!
The way Dumbledore's death was handled was so wrong! Harry would have NEVER stood by while his beloved mentor was being attacked. That's why in the book Dumbledore stupefies Harry and has him in the invisibility cloak. HE knew Harry would fight for him no matter what. And touching as the "wands up" tribute to Dumbledore was. It pales in comparison to the funeral described in the book.
Enjoyable, but not the best in the series.

I've been a HP fan for years and this movie did not disappoint. Sure things were different from the book, but I still loved it. Humor, drama, romance, action all packed into one. Really awesome! I loved the movie but was a little surprised. I thought the actors did a fantastic job. I so love the young girl who plays Luna Lovegood. I was slightly disappointed by some of the things left out. I know that not everything from a book can be included. I felt though that the changes made to the battle at Hogwart's were off target & the Burrough events that were changed bugged me.

I am huge fan of this series of books and film. This book really sets the stage for the huge climax in the "Deathly Hallows" and although really enjoyed the movie, I feel that there were several key moments that needed to be apart of the movie which were left out. And the ending...I don't want to spoil it for everyone going to see it but the writers' really took liberty here and left out too much content...would another 15/25 minutes really mattered? We were all glued in our seats! I cannt wait for the next one and will no doubtily buy this one to add to my collection. I have seen it twice - and now will begin reading HBP again.

I wish they wouldn't add things out of the blue (such as the unexpected fate of the burrow) or change things outright (like the appearance of the great hall). And Lavender, while funny, was not at all what I'd pictured.
Overall, though, I was quite pleased. The director did a good job balancing Draco's torment with Ron's brilliant physical humor, and the friendship bond between Harry and Hermione is cemented even more strongly. Snape is deliciously evil (or is he?) and sweet-hearted Luna is just as lovably daft as expected.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

This movie totally blew me away. In my opinion the writers did an outstanding job on this movie compared to the previous harry potter movies. It's by far the funniest one yet. Also the acting in this one stepped it up in this one. And they really followed the story of the book very well leaving out only a few parts. So go see this movie, you wont be disappointed. The director's lack of focus distracts from the purpose of this book as the key to understanding the central characters of the series outside the children, Prof. Dumbledore, Prof. Snape and Voldemort. The ending fell limp after mild build-ups that never approached tension. The tacked on faux action scene in the second act was awkward, and upon review was inserted to break up flat story telling. The largest issue I had with the film was how much it left out. I went into this movie expecting to see much more about the past than we did. Where were young Severus and Lilly? I so wanted to see that, to get more depth from Snape's character. The book was all about him. The movie? Not so much. It wasn't Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It was Harry Potter and the Awkward Teenagers. The only mention of the Half-Blood Prince came at the beginning of the movie and the revelation at the end. A revelation that, frankly, fell flat.
It just didn't live up to it's potential or it's hype.

My two sons and I have been following the Harry Potter books and movies for 10 years now. They weren't so crazy about the Order of the Phoenix but we all agreed this one was great! My husband has only seen one of the other movies and hasn't read any of the books but he enjoyed it as well. I loved the humor in this one and the special effects were great.

The movie was great. As with the others, each movie grew in intensity. I thoroughly enjoy all of them. I am slightly disappointed in the ending, however, i assume it leads up to a dramatic finish. I will honestly be sad to see them end! It kept me on the edge of my seat.

I'm an avid fan of the book franchise and feel that this movie a decent portrayal. I don't agree with a lot of the cuts made for the screenplay (the Burrow being attacked). Also, I feel that the ending of the movie was the worst part. The end felt rushed and crammed with information that could have been easily portrayed by more dialogue rather than pointless scenes (death eaters flying toward hogwarts). Also, there was no funeral for Dumbledore which I found infuriating. There was no sense of closure and no portrayal of the various character's feelings towards the unexpected sudden death of their leader. Otherwise I felt that the sixth installment in the HP franchise was a stolid attempt that both entertained and enthralled me.

This film in the series is really there to move the plot forward and set up the final 2, which is where all the real action will be. Despite it's PG rating, I thought this one was less for younger kids than the last. There was less action and lot more talk and background information. My 7 year old was squirming in his seat by 30 minutes in with boredom, but my 10 year old was enraptured by it. It wasn't a perfect film, but it was still well worth seeing if you're following the storyline. If this is your first HP film, please rent the others first or this will make little sense to you. It doesn't really stand alone as a film, like some of the others could.
