Really enjoyed scenes with Draco & Snape - excellent delivery by both. The Ron comedy scenes, joke shop, & love dramas were good too. Beautiful scenery. Why no Dumbledore telling off the Dursleys, instead of lame train station scene? The Burrow burning nullifies the future events of the start of book 7. Hard to believe no one else except Snape sensed Harry lurking below (especially with F.Greyback there). Harry would have taken on all the death-eaters (he rushed out to get Beatrix at the Burrow earlier) to try to save Dumbledore, so no spell to prevent Harry? No funeral scene, no Harry telling Ginny good-bye? Left me confused. The story is so well told in the books, why invent scenes that don't add anything? Still, I recommend it.

Strange movie, actually. Love the series, read most of the books, was thinking to myself through most of the film that it is beautifully crafted and rendered.
That said...I was totally shocked when the credits came up. That was the end?!? The movie was just starting to get good!
The "big reveal" (i.e., who the half-blood prince actually is) and the "big fight scene" were both terribly under-whelming. The movie sputters and putters along, and then it ends...
A must-see for fans of the series and a vital set-up for the final two films, but not much else. Catch this one on cable between now and 2010 and 11, when the final installments arrive to the big screen.

Not since the Chamber of Secrets has a Harry Potter movie been this good. The acting was leaps and bounds above the last two movies. This movie is a little more chick flick than the others with the various love connections and secret crushes, but that is what I enjoyed the most about the movie.

Steve Cloves and David Yates missed the whole point of the story in their adaptation of Half Blood Prince. They chose to focus on the minor themes instead of on the major ones. The title should have told them one of the themes which was the Half Blood Prince, another was to learn more about Lord Voldemort, both of these fell terribly short. One of the reasons this series is so universal is because the characters so well developed. In my opinion the story the screenwriter and director chose to tell was off the mark.

I have read all of the Harry Potter books with my children and this movie was kind of a let down. There were important things in the book that were not even talked about in the movie. I understand wanting to rush to get all of the movies made before the actors grow too old for the parts but come on. Don't sacrifice the story we have all come to love.

Admittedly this movie is the best of the first five, but its plot is so incredibly far off from the book that I actually had to re-read the book because I was so confused.
The movie is long (2 1/2 hours) with minimal plot points similar to the book. There are a lot of humorous moments, a couple of sad times, and terrific special effects.
If you read the books you'll probably be disappointed like with most movies; If you are one that didn't read the books and just watched the movies you'll probably love it.

I think it was a good movie, if you don't read the book. The storyline followed the book loosely, but there's just so much detail in the book that you can't fit into a movie. I liked how small pieces of humor were sprinkled throughout because, honestly, as a teenager it IS all about crushes and first love...Lord Voldemort or not. That's very true-to-life. I'll be very interested to see how they do the last two movies.

As the series starts to wind down it was nice to see the darkness of this one. The entire movie has a heavy feel as I don't recall seeing the sun on screen during those 2 1/2 hours. The onset of puberty and introduction of love potions allow for some bits of humor as well. It balances nicely.

Intense & slightly different from the other Harry Potter movies, The Half Blood Prince sets up the events of Deathly Hallows very well. While we don't see much time spent in Hogwarts classes in this year we learn so much more about Tom Riddle & all our beloved characters.

I like seeing kids growing up. This movie is the darkest yet and maybe the most introspective -- appropriate for the age group. Acting was wonderful and it is so comforting to see the familiar faces.

Very good movie. Did not feel like a 2.5 hour movie, moved very fast. Pretty true to the book, as much as movies can be-somethings had to be cut. Would like to have seen the battle when Snape and Malfoy left the castle. All in all very pleased with it-will see it one more time for sure.

Taking the movie alone, without the book, I think it’s very entertaining. It had some good laugh lines and a lot of suspense. Although I wonder if anyone could understand it without having read the books. Obviously they didn't have enough time to include everything from the book, so a lot of stuff got left out, including some explanations that I think are somewhat important to the whole story. I can only hope they'll be included in some form in one of the movies for book 7. Also, some things were done differently which is somewhat irritating, but at the same time understandable. So if you're a fan of the books, remember that not everything from the book will be in the movie. If you can accept that, then I think you can enjoy the movie.

I thought this movie was well done, but I do agree with some of the other viewers about the downplay of how grim and dark the book was. I understand what the director was trying to do, make light of the darkness surrounding the characters, but felt that it came off wrong. I do feel that the scene with Harry and Dumbledore recovering the Horcrux was done very well, and pretty powerful. I found myself with a little bit of tears in my eyes!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Excellent movie. Have read all the books and seen all the movies and this movie stayed true to the book. Characters came alive, easy to follow and wasnt too long. Will see it again and again!

How can you leave out all the details that they did and expect the story line to make since in the next 2 PART movie?
- The burrow was used for the wedding, oh wit.. no wedding mentioned - No amazing battle in Hogwarts.. After the one in the ministry, I thought for sure this would be a grand one, but nothing. - No show of any of the other memories that Dumbledore shows Harry, so how is he to grasp the concept that the other Horacox are items from other houses?
I might watch the next movie now, just to see how the tie this together, but not nearly as excited now. The movies started out great, but since, the Chamber of Secrets, key items of been left out and to me is ruining the stories.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I thought this was one of the best HP movies. I know that not everything was included...which is understandable because otherwise it would've been like 14 hrs long. But I think it was a great lead up to the last 2 movies. Well done!!
