Having read the book, I was familiar with the plot, but when the movie ended and the lights came up, I was somewhat disappointed, but I could'nt quite figure out why. It took me a little while, but I finally realized that the key points in the movie were simply "exhibited" with no dramatic tension built around them nor much suspense in how all the elements fit together to build to the climax. Certain scenes were good, but the overall movie was weak.
We all knew the plot of Apollo 13 some years back, but the movie was very entertaining because it did build towards something. I was disappointed in the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince exhibited like a presentation of certain events rather than a dramatic story.......

This was not the best Harry Potter movie ever, but it was still riveting; it didn't seem like 2 1/2 hours. We realize that they can't put everything from the book into the movie, but it still kept to the main premise of the story. It was heartening to see the relationships of the characters continue to grow and point out how the wizards rely upon each other for their safety. The romance between Ron and Lavender was "cute" but the bigger role given to Luna was appreciated. She plays her role with just the right balance of dreamyness and wisdom. The growing danger to humans is pointed out as it shows the disregard of the human race by the DeathEaters. I would love to see the movie again, and can't wait until it comes out on video.

I didn't think this was the better of the movies, and if you are one to read the books, you will be especially disappointed. It left out way too many scenes from the book. (some of the best parts). I thought this movie could've done a much better job.

It is a very good movie that fans of previous HP movies will find enjoyable, fun, and exhilarating. Strict adherents to the books will find some plot points missing or altered, but honestly, the films and the books MUST be looked at as two separate entities, and this film must be compared to the other HP films, and not the books.
That in mind, I think that the latest installment is invigorating, fun, and follows up the previous movies quite well. I would say it most closely resembles the vision the director put forth in the 5th film, which is natural, as the director is the same for the 5th as well as the 6th.
In short, if you liked the other Potter films, you'll like this one.

OK, it's a Harry Potter movie. If you liked the first dozen then you will like this one. Like the Empire Strikes Back, this one is filler leading up to the last movie(s). Yes you get to see Obi-won... err Dundledorf struck down (ok, that was the end of ep.4) and hear "Luke... err Harry, I'm your... umm... Half-blood prince."
More romance than the others and they cut out the major fight scene.

I didn’t like that Ron/Lavendar stole Harry/Ginny’s kiss scene. I especially liked the scene when Harry gets the memory from Slughorn. Tom Felton/Draco was FABULOUS! ‘Bout time that boy got some serous screen time. I LOVED the joke shop.
The part that completely irritated me was after Dumbledore died. Snape and Co. just walked out the front door and NOBODY tries to stop them? The “battle” was completely gone! WTF?! I’m beginning to get the impression that WB/Yates doesn’t want to show the “kids” fighting. They didn’t fight near as much as they should have in PHOENIX and they didn’t fight at all in this one. They need to get over that real quick or DEATHLY HALLOWS is going to suck.

Harry and his friends seem more fleshed-out, less cartoonish in this best of the Harry Potter series. They act like real, albeit smart and talented adolescents, dealing with budding love relationships, questions of social status, and morality while at the same time engaging in whiz-bang episodes of wizardry and daring. The most interesting of the three main characters in this episode is Ron (Rupert Grint), who is endearingly vulnerable as he begins to grasp his maturing feelings of attraction to Hermione. Harry, on the otherhand, although mighty and powerful, is still pretty one-sided in his grandiosity. Maybe someday he'll round-out, but that's probably not the way of wizards.

I admit: I'm a little behind on my HPs. I saw the first 2, missed the next 3 and am now dropping in on this one with a lot of holes in my understanding of the storyline.
Harry has become much more at ease with his destiny. He manages to be both pragmatic and idealistic, a nice contrast to Hermione who comes off as a bit too preachy and cagey to be much fun.
The Deatheaters deliver real chills and there's a scene in a lagoon that uses your personal demons against you quite well.
Half-blood was dark, mysterious, frivolous and great fun. These qualities do not contradict themselves in the hands of this director who balances jaw-dropping special effects with good old fashioned storytelling.

I gave it 4 stars because, after all, it is still a Harry Potter movie, but I'd have to say that it was probably my least favorite of the Harry Potter movies. The Half-Blood Prince was my favorite book in the series, and I think they left out too much information that is critical to understanding the ending, unless of course they plan to disappoint me with the last movies too.

I watched this movie with my best friend and his teenage daughter (14 yrs old this August). It was so funny watching teenager love and angst depicted so well, without all of the stupid stuff you see in other movies. We teased her throughout the movie about it. Considering that this novel was about growing up and becoming what you are meant to be, it was really good on several levels. I wish they had explained why the Half Blood Prince was named that, like in the book. That information is crucial to the upcoming movies. I hope the DVD puts those scenes back into the movie or explains it for those who did not read the books. i read them, and I will go back to the novels to relish how good this series is for all ages.

Ok, I hate to go against the grain here, but I thought the movie was only ok. I am a huge fan of the books... and I don't criticize the actors... but there were a number of crucial omissions in the film & some "insertions" which I just did not get. Having shared the books with our now-grown kids, we've continued read the books and to see the movies. This one is a very nice balance between forwarding the plot to the showdown and taking advantage of the now-older cast to create some interesting tension and emotion. Radcliffe has grown as an actor to the point where his struggle against dark forces is now as much of an internal struggle as it is a storybook tale of magic and scary action (which is still very, very well done).

It was a good movie, with lots of intrigue and all. It did seem like it was 2½ hours of setting up for the next movie though. It left so many things hanging, rather than coming to some sort of conclusion. It wasn't a snoozer as some have suggested, but it did go a bit slowly in parts. I actually liked the teen angst parts, which should be expected in a series film like this, and with the target audience. Overall, it was worth watching (worth the $9 is another matter entirely) but hopefully the next two films begin to resolve issues.

HP 6 was incredibly visually stunning. It had a film noir sense about it that perfectly mirrored the film's subject matter. However, it was a bit slow at times and repetitive. (Especially the part with Malfoy and the trunk. I kind of get the sense that they filmed that once and then used the same image over and over throughout the film.) However, the director really did do the best he could condensing a 800 page book into a 2 and a half hour movie.

As this series has progressed I have seen a massive improvement in the acting, cinematography and other technical aspects put into the movies. This has made each movie better than the previous. Until now. I was not a huge fan of the 6th book and seeing the story in movie form did not change my mind. The story is slow and there is not much excitement like in the other 6 books (and 5 movies thus far). Despite this, it is a necessary movie to see for all HP fans as it is a set-up for the next two movies. Just be prepared to be bored with all of the awkward teen-love scenes...

Excellent movie. I wish they had developed Fenrir Greyback's character more in the movie and did the whole part about the hospital. But I guess they can't put it all in the movie! It was very enjoyable non the less. :)

Let's get the cons out of the way first. The screen writers took too many liberties to change plot lines and left out important parts of the book. Leads to too many inconsistencies.
Otherwise, special effects were great, many funny scenes. The Potter gang is growing up and hormones are raging in the 6th HP film. The usual "i think I"m going to puke" faces from Ron Weasly.
My 11 year old son loved it, which is why I gave it 4 stars.

Sure, it's not going to measuer up to the book... but they did a great job overall!
It was short on battle scenes but I'm guessing they're really going to build up that aspect in the next two movies.
What I loved most was how much the three main actors are coming into their own. We got to see more of Draco who really performed well in this. And Ron Weasely really shined in this movie!
The supporting actors are the best and I was glad to see more of them in this movie. We barely heard a syllable from any of them in the last movie!
Overall a wonderful movie, very enjoyable.

I truly enjoyed it. There were slight changes from the book, but nothing that alters the storyline. Even when I knew what was coming next, I jumped out of my seat at times.
Excellent directing job.

The movie is great but there are a few minor problems. The "action" scene in the middle of the movie with the Wesley's house was totally unnecessary and just weird. Why??? There was no point to it. The ending was okay but the funeral was needed to lay the foundation for the next movie. There are some things that were left hanging. I loved the humor and the whole teeenage crush play. Ron under the spell of the love potion was fabulous. And the drunk Hagrid and Slughorn scene was also enjoyable. Overall great.

I did not enjoy this movie very much altohugh it did have some action but not enough. The romantic situations were poor and predictable and boring. As for the rest, a big snooze fest. Although my nephew seemed to like it, but then again he is 7, which I think is about the target audience for this pathetic attempt at movie making. If you want to see an action movie that is better, with a so-so romantic sub-plot see Transformers and let the little kids see this.

Seems like things are missing. I do not feel it was as good as all of the previous movies. I do not read the book, but maybe I should have this time. I feel a little let down on this one.
