Short and sweet: Rarely do movies meet the expeciations of readers when they are preceeded by the novel(s). As a reader, I was impressed by the obvious measures taken to keep the integrity of the essentials in the books (and some of the non-essential details). Of course, you cannot expect to get everything translated perfectly from the book to movie - but, it was pretty close.

I am a LOVER of the books, therefore I had a hard time with the movie. As mentioned by others, they changed things that didn't need changing and omitted things crucial to the end of the book. The death scene at the end was a VERY POOR excuse. It didn't play out at all how the book did and quite frankly I'm curious how they will explain a good portion of #7 with this ending ... book readers will know what I mean (hint Elder Wand????). I would not have have missed going to see the movie (obsessed - who me??) but was still dissappointed.

This movie isn't very good at all. Ive seen every harry potter movie to date and this one has to be the worst. There isn't any action that was in the books. Its just a extremely boring 2 and half hours of nothing. I liked the first 3 movies because the movies actually had stuff going on. The half-blood price is like a soap opera like on t.v minus the little action they do have. I think the last two films have been badly hurt by not having a continuous director. Heck in harry potter movies there been funny parts and there isn't nothing in here that's special. It would have been better if i wait 3months for it to hit the redbox and just paid a 1$ to see it! if i were you guys i would wait.

I did not like this movie or 5 and feel robbed because if the book was written as poorly, people would not have bothered reading the books let alone create the Harry Potter craze that allowed for such movies to exist. The books are excellent and will last for who knows how many years. The movies should due their best to compete with the writing instead of simply taking for granted that people will just go and see the movie simply because it was made. The 6th movie was a let down and not worth seeing. The elves are a crucial part of the entire story, especially book 6. I may be remembering it wrong, but what about the relationship between Harry's mom and Snape? I love that part of the book. Come on!

I felt this movie was an excellent adaptation from the book. They changed many of the specifics of the scenes but kept the essence of the scenes and the relationships between the characters, even surpassing the book in some ways. The humor was beyond anything yet, great romance, awesome action, incredible amounts of magic, and overall definitely a must see.

I put movies into two main catigories; 1. Art films- thought provoking, self-reflecting, meaningfull films
2. Entertainment
This film very clearly fits as entertainment. It has a great story (thanks to the book). It is very well acted. It serves as a good progression from the others and lets face it if your a Harry Potter fan you got to see it anyway. The question is: is it worth the money to see on the big screen? Yes! if you do not you will wish you had when you rent it at home.
Family friendly: yes, but it is much more teen driven, (lots of kissing). My 5 year old was not interested. It is also very long so leave the young ones at home.

This movie did not disappoint but it did not fufill expectations either. The movie, to me, focused more on some of the trivial points from the book and left a lot of the more important points out and adding scenes not in the book, therefore made the movie a little confusing for the people who have read the book. Even if you didn't read the book, the movie left you wondering how much better could this 2 hr 30 min film be. If you want to be swept away for 2 1/2 hours, this is a descent movie to watch.

Disclaimer: I haven't read any of the books, but have seen all the movies, and, up to this one, I think each one has been better than the last.
My main complaint is that there wasn't really a story arc. I find it difficult to even identify the climax. Killing off a major character, especially the way it was shown, a climax does not make. I remember feeling, OK, now this is when the good stuff starts, and then the movie ended.
There was way too much teen-angst filler. This movie should have been cut in half and prepended to the next one (which I hear is half of book 7).
On the plus side, the supporting actors are excellent, as usual for the series.

I thought the movie was wonderful and pretty true to the book. I brought my kids who are 10 & 8 and a couple of parts were a little scary( blood and dead bodies in the water) . So I was surprised by the PG rating, I think it should have been PG-13. But having read the book, I just gave my kids a heads up on what was coming. And they still enjoyed it!

Having read the book, this movie fell short of my expectations. In making the movie I know poetic license comes into play BUT changing areas can detract from the story line. For example, in the movie Luna Lovegood finds Harry on the train after Malfoy casted his freezing spell BUT in the book it was Tonks who releases him. This would seem to be a minor difference but to we diehard book enthusiasts it clearly stands out as a movie booboo. Overall, this movie falls short of doing this book segment justice.

It seemed like a leaden, plodding, gap movie to get to Deathly Hallows. There were also scenes that seemed to copy the color and tone of Lord of the Rings - not a movie(s) I liked very much. Acknowledged that you need to see this if you are an HP fan, but it won't be your favorite.

My son, a HArry Potter fanatic, was elated by the way in which the film followed the novel. He loved it and his excitement was contageous among all the members of the family. Great film for families with children nine and up.

While the movie was O.K., I really thought it would have included more of the book's details; I expected much more than I saw. There just wasn't enough magical action and the scenes didn't transition well from one to the other. It appeared as though the director focused on few high points (leaving out some key details and forcing the viewer to make assumptions) to create an ending that would get viewers to watch the next movie.

All flashy effects and funny one liners spiced with teenage horomonal issues, but no real storyline is the only way to describe this travesty of a movie that Mrs. Joanne Rowling should've never let be released as is! Moving from scene to scene with no explanations why things were being done or not done was extremely confusing even looking at it in a 'didn't read the book' perspective! I'd say skip this one until video it's not worth the money especially if you're trying to see it in IMAX or 3D or something! Use it to get a copy of the book as it will make you much happier in the end.

If you've never read a Potter book, chances are good you will enjoy Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. This latest flick has all the requisite action, intrigue and romance to keep you engaged for the full 2hours and 33 minutes. In addition, the scenery, special effects and musical score are terrific. However, Rowling wrote a fantastic, action-packed end to her 6th novel, and for some reason, Warner Bros. chose to go in a different direction. This decision certainly comes up short for book-lovers, in addition to the general movie-goer who is also left a bit empty at the anti-climactic end. Rowling's characters and millions of die-hard fans who've been waiting years for this latest release certainly deserved better.

Half Blood Price was terrific and it stayed very true to the Harry Potter book series, but I thought it lacked more detail about the person that is the "Half Blood Prince". The ending also swayed away from the relationship between Harry and Snape. Those of us who read the book had a better understanding of Snape's character and his self conflict, than what the movie protrayed. Still it was a fantastic movie and I would recommend it to anyone who loves the Harry Potter series-book or movies.

The movie was pretty good. I was expecting more action than what there was. It did show a more grown up side to the characters. It was a good movie, but there were a lot of things in the book that you did not see in the movie...things that I thought were very important...but that is common with most made into movie books. I would still recommend to a friend.

The movie was great my family loved it we have been fans of Harry Potter since the first movie. If the action is what attracted your to the movies you may be disappointed. This movie focuses more on the past bringing light to the mysteries that still lingered.. I believe Draco will join Harry in the next movie...

I was expecting the movie to have more action than what it did. They did great with the story line. You were actually able to see a different side of Harry. It was definitely comical in certain areas. Again, I just wish the movie had a little bit more action.

I really enjoyed this film, but was a little disappointed in the fact that it didn't stay with the book as closely as I would've liked. All in all, though, it was VERY good and I highly recommend it.

I agree that it left a lot to be desired after reading the book. My sons were disgusted because it did not include the fight scene at the end and both said they would not have seen it if they knew ahead of time. I did enjoy it but I think it was geared more for romance than being true to the storyline. I hope the next one sticks to the book. I do enjoy the series.
