I go to these movies without reviewing the book so that I can let go of my desire for it to be totally true to plot - instead, I see each movie for what it is, and this was visually stunning, the actors are getting better and better, and the plot was focused more on relationships of characters. I do remember that this was one of the most ominous books yet, but I didn't get that feel from the movie - spooky parts for sure, but also a lot of lightness and even humor.

All I have to say is I am glad I waited in the long line to see this movie. This movie will keep you in your chair and not want to get up and go the bathroom, or refill your drink. The movie did stick the book but left out some. You wil not be disapointed!!

I enjoyed this movie!
As with the other Harry Potter movies, so much has been left out. I think it is most noticeable in this movie. There are a lot of back-story things that people will not notice or appreciate if they have not read the book. That being said, what the movie presented was everything and more than I could have imagined while I read it.
Seeing this movie inspires me to re-read the sixth and seventh books again to relive and remember the great adventure.
Harry Potter fans, go see this movie! You will not be disappointed.

Movie sucked...
Worst one by far of the series, the title was pointless, the name half blood prince was mentioned only a few times and hardly even affected the storyline with its potion book. Wait for it to come out on dvd, it drags to much, no action, boring boring, I about fell asleep numerous times.

then there is little about the movie that will disappoint and much that will make your day. By turns gripping, funny and yes true to non magical life the movie speeds by and leaves you begging for the next installment. If for some reason you've never ventured into Harry's world except through cinema this chapter is equally delightful but there is foreshadowing that will not strike the same chord as it will with the readers.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince did not seem like it was as long as 2h33m due to its ability to keep you involved and interested with good use of visual effects and witty dialogue. However with the 7th book already out for a few years, and the knowledge that there are two more movies, the writers of the 6th installment forgot to include a substantial story-line and merely used JK Rowling's novel as a mere stepping-stone to the next big thing.
I would recommend this movie to anyone, But as someone who read all the books going to see the movie with someone who hadn't read any, I clearly enjoyed it more, and understood more of the subtleties. Good movie, not great, but definitely worth seeing again.

The Essence of the Harry Potter & Half-blood Prince book was truly captured and maintained in this movie adaptation. Also new was the wonderful sense of light - yes you could actually see the characters instead of them always being cast in shadows. Lots of humor interjected, some twists in presentation of information from the book and creative interpetation, but all in all a great job. A wonderful job of distilling a large volume of words and internal thought and conflict and producing a movie that shows the viewer what the reader can read. Truly in the English sense, Brilliant!adaptation and by far the funniest movie of the Harry Potter's. Literal die-hards may disagree but a GREAT CREATIVE MOVIE!

I agree that this book was quite the feat to tackle for the cinema. With that said, there were so many things left out and other items that too much time was spent on (i.e., all of the 'Won Won' stuff)...could have easily cut that time in half, added in some other very important, key items from the book.
Also, not ONE fan of these movies & books would have complained had it been 3 hours in length. An extra 30 minutes could have done wonders for the Half-Blood Prince.
Now we all must wait for both The Death Hallow movies to rekindle our sincere affections for these adaptations to a wonderful series.

I took my daughter and one of her friends to see this on opening day, as has become our tradition. All three of us are fans of the books. The movie did a good job of laying out the story. While certainly skipping some details from the book and even adding a few things that were not in the book, this movie did an excellent job of telling the story.
I felt the acting was very good. Each character was believable. My only knock would be that Allan Rickman seemed to have "phoned in" his part, but honestly, the Snape character is supposed to be emotionless anyway, so perhaps that was a good thing.
Great cinematography and quite emotional, especially to the climax. All three of us enjoyed the film and would recommend it to others.

This was a good movie if you have never heard of Harry Potter or read the book. I was sadly disappointed by this movie. I understand that it is a long book and it is difficult to include everything in the movie, but to ADD things that never happened? I don't understand why they had the Burrow burn down and then cut out the HUGE fight scene at the end. Or, have Harry just stand there while Dumbledore is being attacked. Harry would never just listen to Snape like that. I just hope they do a better job with the last book.

HP6 is a much better title than Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince to be honest because while the Half Blood Prince does play a minor part in the storyline, it is not as major a role as in the book.
Now, of course, this is understandable as a book the size of HP and the Half Blood Prince can never be boiled down to 2 and a half hours without losing some major plot lines and the plot lines that were chosen are crucial to the completion of the series, the missing story of the Half Blood Prince was also, in my opinion, crucial to how this story ends.
Perhaps WB should have considered splitting both books 6 and 7 into 4 movies rather than just 7 into 2.

This was a great movie!! I really enjoyed it! This movie was different than the others, but different in a good way. There was a lot more humor to it than I feel the others had, which is good. And it definitely was sad, but if you remembered the book then it was fine. Although the ending was really one of the only parts I remembered from the book, considering that I read it when it first came out years ago, I was not confused during the movie, like I was with some of the other movies, which is always good. Also, I don't think you need to see some of the other movies, maybe the first and possibly the fourth or fifth, but that's really it. Overall, a great movie!!! I definitely recommend it! : )

This was such a wonderful movie. From the cinematography to the stepped up acting of the entire cast, it was the best Potter yet. There were a few differences from the book, but the overall feel of the book was not lost and still satisfied me. My favorite thing about it was surprisingly the child that plays Draco, as in this movie he was not some snivilling sissy boy, but truely tormented. The last 30 min took my breath away.

This was the best Harry Potter movie yet. It deviated from the book, but the changes worked for the film. the ending left a bit to be desired, but the movie as a hole was awesome. It seemed to be less of a summary of the book and more of an actual movie than some of the other films. Very funny.

All the HP books should be made into two movies. There is never enough. You always want to see more. But, we still loved this one. The funniest of all of them. All Snape has to do is give a look and everyone in the theater was laughing. The acting by the kids was so good. When you see how they were in the first two it's impressive how comfortable they are in their roles now. The only complaints we had were that it was Tonks who found him in the train. They should not have changed any of that. Also the end rapped up way to fast. It was mostly comedy for over 2 hours and then suddenly the big moment came and it was over in minutes. We still loved it. Can't wait to own it. TRUST SNAPE!

Not my favorite Harry Potter. Definitely worth seeing because it's part of the series. It wasn't the worst, but ut definitely wasn't the best. I would have still gone and I do recommend it. The movie was good but many deviations from the book and of course the books are always so much better. Since it's been a while since anything new has been released it was very entertaining to see Harry and the rest again, I miss the stories so much.
Definitely worth the ticket price

I would recommend this to anyone who likes the Harry Potter series, however, i was disappointed in the movie. It was very funny in parts, but it was way too slow moving - not enough action as we are used to seeing in these movies. It was way too long.

The movie dragged on, and on, with pubescent minutia. While perhaps cute for some audience members of a lesser age, the culmination to the movie's climax had you waiting, and waiting. The endless pool of English talent seemed wasted, even Alan Rickman, who I think is fantastic.
A disappointing Potter movie.

Great acting, great graphics, great flow from scene to scene. Only thing that would have made this movie better is if the screenplay had been truer to the book.

With one of the larger novels to tackle, I believe the director did a fantastic job of keeping true to the storyline. Also, the true talent of these gifted actors really comes out in this Potter film unlike any other. Combine this with the great effects that have become synanomous with the Potter series and you have an excellent film. Note, this movie is much darker and "romantic" than previous films so younger ones should have a parent with them.

I really enjoyed this movie. I was upset that the director changed some of the basic facts from the novel. The earlier movies were much better for their story telling and accuracy. This one did have a lot of cool effects.
