We went with a group of friends on 7/15/2009 to the HP Half blood prince movie. After an hour and a half, me and my wife left the movie theater and went home. We watch about 250 movies a year (netflix mostly) and this was by far the worst movie we've seen in the last 5 years. Nothing happens in the first 90 minutes ... NOTHING. We liked the first 5 HP movies but this one is a total disaster. That was 22 bucks and 2 hours of our time wasted.

I think the movie was good and if you hadn't read the books you probably would have really liked it. All the previous Harry Potters movies were a great supplement to the books, but this one was very different. They changed the whole story, left out many important parts and made up scenes that were irrelevant and added nothing to the movie or the plot.

Although Director Yates was forced to paraphrase and adapt the story he portrayed on the screen, the essentials of Ms. Rowling's story are there. The "snogging, etc." romantic stuff, although not central to the books story is important in the overall story, so it cannot be said that it was not a needed part of the movie. I must assume that some of the material left out of the movie I saw yesterday, is being saved for the two upcoming movies that will complete the franchise.

Everyone who complains how the movie isn't like the book seems to forget it's impossible to completely follow the book. I think the director kept the best parts of the book, the humor especially. It was a very good movie, possibly my favorite one in the series. The movie did seem to jump around a lot, but with so much to cover it was necessary and I didn't find it annoying, actually it helped keep the story going. Movie adaptations never follow the book and in reality it is foolish to expect it. Enjoy the movie as an entity unto itself and do yourself a favor-don't reread the book before you go see this movie.

Although the movie strayed far from the book, the performances by Alan Rickman, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson were the best yet. It was choppy at times and without reading the book may have been a little hard to follow. The quiddich segments were much more realistic than in prior movies. I wonder though why they dressed so often as teens as opposed to the usual wizard/witch attire. Overall the movie was worth seeing as long as you keep in mind that movies are rarely as fulfilling as the books on which they are based.

I am a huge fan of the books,and I am also a screenwriter, so, while I understand the complaints people have made about the deviation from the book, I can also understand why they did it. It's not easy to condense all that story to 120 pages. As far as the movie goes, I looked at it as a film, which was beautifully shot and told a lot of story in 2 and a half hours. The ending did what it was supposed to, it set up #7. I believe we should look at the books and the movies as two seperate mediums, each told as they're supposed to be told. And yes there is Quidditch in it, and Ron gets his moment, but is the whole story about Quidditch? No. There's a lot to tell, and I think they did a great job.

If you've read the book at all, you'll know how much they changed in this movie. It's silly, and I don't see why they changed it. This destroyed my faith in the Harry Potter movies. Harry, Ron, and Hermonie are in their 6th year of Hogwarts, and love is in the air. But behind the shadows lurks the ever-strengthening Voldemort. The movie was enjoyable. Distractions of differences between the movie and the book are common throughout. The movie was heavy on plot but light on details. Some explanations in the book, which were needed in the movie were missing.
Definitely some scary scenes. I would not recommend bringing a child under 8 to this movie.
There also is more humor in this movie than in the others, which is a much needed relief.
The action was great and the new characters were well chosen. This movie definitely sets us up for the final movies, but ultimately, it is not my favorite Harry Potter movie.

I am a dedicated Harry Potter fan and I was very disappointed in this movie. It is by far my least favorite of all of them. The film was too far off the story and too much unecessary things were added. Like the burning of the Burrow. I had a hard time trying to stay awake and feel I cannot recommend anyone to go see this movie. I travel a lot in my work and listen to Harry Potter books on audio all the time. I have been through the whole list 3 times and am almost through with the last one for 4 times for all of them. This was a good book made into a poor movie.

I thought the movie was ok, but if I had to compare all the Harry Potter movies and rank them from best to worst, this movie would be at the bottom. This movie was surprisingly amazing and visually stunning. After the failure of OotP (with so much cut out from the book), I had medium expectations for this movie. However, as the movie progressed it was clear to see that Half Blood Prince would be much better.
As a movie, I give this 5 stars. As a movie based on a book I'd give it 4.5 stars due to it being 97% accurate (2% for content not included and 1% for content "altered".)
I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre and for men & women, boys & girls of all ages.
This movie is worth the ticket price. So much so that I will be seeing it again at least once more in theaters. It truly was a magical experience.

-Amazing art direction, great performances (especially Tom Felton), fan-fodder, beautiful cinematography, and brilliant direction by David Yates! Bravo! -Just short of perfection due to a change in tone of the ending. Those who have read the book the film's ending will seem disconcerting at first. After having time to think about it, I loved the execution (not literally), but I would have stayed the course. (No major plot points about the ending changed, it was just quieter). -Finally, the "Half Blood Prince" novel clocked in at 652 pages. Certain aspects of this story were ommitted. Yates and company told the story that needed to be told. Enjoy it!

Sorry, but it was rather disappointing that alot of things were left out of the movie from the book. My question, how can you have such an important character die and not have a funeral?

Loved the movie. We all had a great time. We all enjoyed thoroughly discussing movie vs book all the way home. As usual not long enough. Only criticism- the burrows burning was awful! Not needed and not even in the book! It's bad enough parts must be left out but unacceptable to make up something that never happened. We reccomend this movie!

It's better to watch HP as though you haven't read it. So this is the way i took this movie. I was so disappointed with the last HP, I was afraid this movie would be the same. I was wrong. It was done very well. Yes, there were key points missing. But the movie still felt very complete. I would have rather had the original opening from the book, then the way the movie went; but aside from that fantastic. I left wanting more. Was very glad they made more of Ron and Malfoy's characters. Would still like to see all of the Weasley clan, and what's with the Burrow being blown up? Where will the wedding be in the 7th movie? I am hoping the next two HP's will follow the book more closely since they are taking one book and making two movies.

The sixth movie in the Harry Potter saga , Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, delivers the same great qualities as all previous Potter movies. Not only is there magic, but comedy as well. Brilliant!!!! I am looking forward to the final installment.
