Not exactly sure what went wrong with this movie, but it was pretty slow and seemed to try to cover too much even though it lasted 2 1/2 hours. I'm sure Harry Potter fans will love it, but if you're on the sidelines, you might want to pass.

Oddly, I found the movie to be an improvement on the book. There were several minor details not to be found in the book, and a lot from the book was left out of the movie, but it actually served to clean up the story and the characters. I enjoyed the focus on normal teenage developments like love conflicts while at the same time continually showing us the bigger picture as Malfoy struggled against his own darker conflicts.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

We have waited patiently for this movie & were so excited that the day had arrived! I found it didn't quite live up to my expectations, all the hype and such...but it was an excellent movie. It was more centered around the relationships of the characters than anything else. It was funny and suspenseful, just not as action-packed as previous films. I took my 3 kids-ages 9,13, & 14. They all give it thumbs up. On the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment...VIVA LA HARRY!!

I have been waiting to see this movie ever since I have read the book. I was amazed... The story was good, it followed the book extremely well... There was a lot left out and some things changed, but it flowed really well. It was good to see how this series has changed, and even though they are constantly getting darker, there are moments throughout the movie that remind you that they can and will stick together... The graphics were amazing, same location as the 5th. Definitely a must see. Two thumbs way up!

I have to say I'm surprised at the number of positive reviews. I think that many people probably didn't want to feel that they wasted $10 per ticket, so they looked for something positive to say.
Frankly, out of all the movies so far, I felt this one was the most disappointing, and one of the least attentive to the book. They failed to really emphasize the tensions between the characters (romantic and otherwise) and they created a much more scattered feel to the plot than was necessary.
As a family of 5, we went with high hopes that it would be on par with the other HP movies. The result: there's $50 and 2 and 1/2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Wait for the DVD or at least the Dollar Show

Having read the books we knew what to expect, however, as usual the movie makes you forget you know whats coming. We found it visually captivating, the special effects truly exceed expectations time and again. We found the few additions to the author's story fitting and they enhanced the overall feel of the movie. We were surprised and pleased with the comedic portions of the story, Ron showed a fun side that all kids really have. The serious, romantic and comedic aspects all blended well and although the ending is sad, we look forward to seeing the last book come alive on screen, too.

I loved the movie and all three of the 'kids' have grown up nicely. Ruppert should be commended for his comedic scenes, he was great. I was very disappointed in the things that were omitted.I think the director missed the main point of book 6-to bridge us to book 7 with enough background information. We didn't get all the memories and enough of Harry's feelings for Dumbledore. The ommissions of the fight scene, the extensive use of the invisibility cloak and lack of memories left a void in the plot for me, the biggest being the fight scene.
All that said, it was a good movie. I think each movie has exceded the last one, it just had some things that the Harry Potter purest will have trouble swallowing.

Of course i've read the books so to say that i was excited for this movie to come out is an understatement. It lived up to my expectations and more even. This is my favorite movie so far, the graphics and imagination put in to this movie is beautiful. It was very similar to what i had imagined while reading. I am utterly excited for the next book to turn into two movies (secretly I'm glad it's 2, because it makes Harry Potter last longer =]). I'm sure they will be just as amazing, if not better than the Half-Blood Prince.
YOU MUST GO SEE THIS MOVIE! =D

This movie was up to it's usual standards, so HP fans will love it.
It's been awhile since I read the book, so I'm not sure if the explanation was in this one or the last, but the story is about HP and THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE. If you didn't pay attention in the 5 seconds that Snape mentioned to Harry that he was the prince, then you missed the whole thing. There was no explanation of why he called himself that, which is the whole key to the half-blood prince part.
The ending was very weak and they left out critical information. Since it has been announced that the final book will be split into two movies, I expect I'm not the only one who feels this way.

It was wonderful!! I was pleasantly surprised. I was disappointed with the Order of the Phoenix, but this made up for that. The kids have grown up and the acting reflected it. The mix of the teens having fun, but yet having to face what has happened and what is yet to come is great. Some things were changed, but overall, very cool!!

I've seen the whole Harry Potter series with my kids and I have to say...they just keep getting better! This latest installment maintains that feeling of darkness that has been overtaking the lives of Harry, Hermione and Ron. The sense of urgency and "time running out" is created by Dumbledore's nightly meetings and travels with Harry. All of this darkness and brooding by Malfoy is tempered by the love antics of hormonal teenagers. The climax (obviously the tower scene!) is rightfully dramatic and viewers finally accept the fact that even Hogwarts isn't safe anymore. Dark magic, long-hidden secrets and pursuing a quest that seems impossible for 3 teenagers...can't wait for the next installment!

First off, I never read the books. Couldn't get into them really. I may go back. Anyway, I'm a big fan of the films and the Half-Blood Prince was pretty good. I think we all know that it's more of a bridge to the last installment and it definitely felt that way at the end. But overall it was really entertaining. Funny parts, serious parts, amazing effects. At the beginning is the scene where death eaters are flying around and for a moment it's like the camera is flying with them. From my second row from the screen seat, it definitely felt like flying. In the good way. It was cool. Obviously if you're a Harry Potter fan you're going to see it.

I am a huge HP fan and was really looking forward to this movie; maybe that's why I was disappointed. I re-read this book a couple months ago which might have also been an issue...you just can't get all the richness and detail of the books in 2.5 hrs. For me, the biggest problem was the ending. Where was the big fight scene?! The walk in-walk out was a let-down when I was expecting a spectacle. It could have easily have followed the book and would have been better for it. Still a good movie but not great.

HP and friends have grown up before our eyes and it is finally showing in their acting. Fantastic performances by the 3 teenage stars, and of course by Alan Rickman, Michael Gambon and the delightful Evanna Lynch! The cinematography is beautiful and special effects believable and eye-catching. The changes to the original book are minimal, but when necessary, effective. While several plot points were missing, I never felt that they disrupted the overall arc of the story or that it will be impossible to include them later. Overall, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the movie. So much great humor, believable drama and genuinely creepy moments that it felt like a very solid film!

I liked the movie as a movie in general, but as a movie in the Harry Potter series, it was disappointing. The movie lacked suspense and fighting, and focused more on humor and romance. Although I enjoyed the humor, I think more action scenes should have been incorporated. Also, the ending to the movie wa weak. All in all, I do not believe that this movie was the best of the series and I would not see it more than once.

I was a little disappointed that the beginning was different from the book. The fact that the final battle wasn't shown, and the funeral was omitted leaves you lost for what is to come. In the book, the battle in the castle and the funeral was what set the "mood", as it were, for the Deathly Hallows. I was also a little disappointed that the relationship between Harry and Ginny wasn't developed more. You lost a little feeling for what Harry was giving up at the end.
The overall story was told well and you will be ready for movie seven...with a little extra explanation at the beginning of that movie. I would definitely like to see it again before it moves on.

Great movie! Thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. Like many "book" fans I missed some of my favorite moments from the 6th novel but felt the spirit of the story was well told.
The actors and actresses have matured and stretched to more fully embody the characters they play. Tom Felton finally got great scenes. Rupert Grint was fantastically hilarious. Emma Watson was touchingly vulnerable. Dan Radicliffe was outstanding all around! Loved the addition of Jim Broadbent, as well as the youngsters who played the Tom Riddles.
Special effects were awesome. Pacing was good. Music was great!
Looking forward to Deathly Hallows I & II!

I missed the big good vs. evil battle scene at the end from the book. The ending kind of fell flat. It was also a little over-acted in places. Other than that, as a stand-alone I loved it. As usual, the things that disappointed were book-to-movie issues. Things left out, etc. But definitely a good film on it's own. Check it out.

To me the best action was in the previews. There is a lot of goo goo relationship stuff in there, and NO "dark lord". I was disappointed in the fact that based on the Phoenix movie, I felt there should have been more magic, etc. This movie gave me the vibe of being a "set-up" movie for things to come because it connected some pretty important dots. And that to me is the ONLY thing that saved this movie in getting a 4. Sorry guys.... it just wasnt the same Harry Potter movie.

I am a huge fan of both the Harry Potter movies and books and have seen/read them multiple times. The acting was great as usual but the movie story line unfortunately fell far short of the book story line. The past movies have really tried to follow the book story line more and this one seemed to deviate too much. For a 2 1/2 hour movie I would have expected more "action" from the book story line than we had.
