It's incredibly rare for movies to live up to their hype, especially when the hype starts so long before anyone has even seen the movie. The movie gets its buzz from something happening on set that has nothing to do with the quality of the actual movie (like the death of an actor), or because we all have blind faith in the writers/producers/actors/director. I braced myself for "Okay, it was good, but it wasn't THAT good." But yes, it really, really was!

Before the movie was released, all you heard about was Heath Ledger's performance. Every word is true! He never breaks character once throughout the entire movie, and I was captivated by him every second he was on the screen. But the movie is so much more. The casting for this movie is perfect. Aaron Eckhart is also excellent as Harvey Dent / Two Face. Maggie Gyllenhaal also does a great job replacing Katie Holmes. The special effects are incredible! The two and a half hour movie flies by because there is so much to watch and it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. It's a must see for all. I will be seeing it again, that's for sure!! Best movie of 2008 so far.....

We saw this opening day. My fiancee hates crowds. But, I couldn't wait! Loved it. I have always liked Heath since The Patriot and A Knight's Tale. But, this one would have sent him into the Mega Star Statis!!!!!

I absolutely loved this movie. I am not always a big comics movie fan, and many times I leave disappointed with the story line or the acting. I left the theater hoping that the next Batman movie is even half as good. The acting was phenomenal, especially Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker. This is a definite must see!!

Dark movie that takes you down a very different road for the Joker. Amazing performances by all but Maggie G. Found her performance rather slilted and stiff. While everything around her was changing and moving and every other character had emotion and drive her performance was flat.
Ledger was amazing as a totally new Joker along the the scenes is Hans Zimmer taking a new way to build stress musically in scenes. Almost and old way but the rise in harmonics slowly and building assisted in the story so well I am sure many people did not even notice it.

if you are a fan of batman, christan bale, or freakin awesome movies then you need to see this. I left the theater angry at Heath Ledger because he will never be able to impress me again. The most amazing part is that even though I was staring at him, I had a hard time believing it was Ledger. He WAS Joker. the movie was great. the plot, the action scenes, the characters everything was on top of its game. see it. really.

wow, i can't believe what i have just seen, that was probably the sickest(best) movie i have ever seen. the action just never ceased, and that is what i look for in a movie. i have no idea how they can even come close to topping this movie with a possible third movie. and the acting was really good.

So amzing. I would go see it 50 more times. Everyone that worked on this film is truly so so so talented. I was blown away. I had very high expectations going into this movie and it surpassed all of them. I do not have one bad thing to say about it.

If I was able to give this a 6 out of 5 stars I would have! I thought that the hype would have ruined the movie for me., however this was not the case! Heath Ledger.....WOW! They need to come up with something pretty great to try and top this masterpiece!

This was well worth the wait and I can see why a posthumous oscar for Ledger is well deserved. The story ,direction, and cinematography were all above par if not excellent. Is it violent ? Yes but we aren'ttalking about a Saturday morning cartoon here this is realistic, people die and get hurt. Nothing is black or white but shades of grey. In short this is an adult movie not onefor the kiddies. I

The Dark Knight was phenomenal!! Heath Ledger did outstanding as the Joker. The voice, the laugh, even the creepy tongue and face gestures... Just perfect! Talk about going out with a bang. And Christian Bale did great as Batman! It's about time an actor playing Batman used the dark and inhuman "Dark Knight" voice and not just the voice of his alter ego. Like the title says: "Best movie I've seen all year!" In fact; best movie I've seen since Transformers, and easily the best Batman movie ever made! Definitely see this one in the theatre people!

The Dark Knight would not be out of place on a double bill with films like Heat or American Gangster. It tells the epic story of how Batman teams up with law enforcement officials to take down a coalition of organized crime figures in Gotham City. In comes the Joker to save the mob from the clutches of the law and play a few public relations terrorist games with the Gotham City Police Department and the citizens. In its fast paced and exciting way, it deals with the ramifications of the principal character's decisions, i.e., how Police Chief Gordon's decision to fight alongside Batman affects his family's safety or how Harvey Dent's tough stance on Gotham's criminal element impacts his sanity. The film is packed with great actors and memorable performances. There is not a weak link in the lot. Heath Ledger fulfills all the hype surrounding his portrayal of the Joker, much more superiour to Jack Nicholson's interpretation of the character. Maggie Gyllenhaal is a vast improvement to the current Mrs. Cruise in the girlfriend role. In addition to these winning elements there is plenty of action and great cinematography. The main credit for the overall success of this film must go to Christopher Nolan. He capably balances the story and action elements with the great performances and creates one of the greatest comic books adaptations in movie history.

This movie was fantastic! My husband and I have a 2 year old so we don't go out to movies much. This movie was worth the money we paid the sitter! It's super long but if you can hold your pee through it...do it! Because you'll miss important parts of the movie. Heath Ledger should definately get at least a nomination for this movie. He was insane!

Excellent! I have been a big fan of "The Batman" since I was a kid. The portrait of a human with super hero morals, and he is able to enact upon them. The film brings out the supressed inner savior and courage we all wish we could act upon as well. Realistic and believable characters, the Joker, insane and truly mezmorizing, the best portrayal of a Batman villain to date.I usually cannot sit for 2 1/2 hours comfortably, this one I didn't want to get up! A must see...again.

This is not a superhero movie for children. You can bring kids to it, but adults will get much more out of it. Unlike a Disney film, The Dark Knight's morality is not simple black/white, right/wrong. The morality is much more complex and disturbing. It deals with the dark side of free will and human nature; it shows how vengeance affects and corrupts "good" behavior; it reveals the troubling shades of gray of difficult decisions when the "best" choice truly is the lesser of two evils. Where Nicholson played the Joker for laughs in Tim Burton's Batman, Ledger is more disturbing--he plays the Joker as a dramatic villain whose whose violence and victims initially seem psychopathic and randomly chosen, making him a frightening echo of the random violence with which we live in America. And, finally, the suspense of The Dark Knight ends on a surprising, bittersweet, uplifting twist you don't see coming and don't recognize as a possibility until after it happens, not just because of the film's action up to that point, but also because of your own expectations and beliefs about human nature. If you've seen it, you know the moment I mean; and if you haven't, I'm not giving anything away. A truly great film, and a truly great, adult superhero movie.
