All sorrow aside, Heath Ledger's performance in this movie makes everyone else's look flat, even though they were all (in spite of Christian Bale's somewhat annoying Batman voice) excellent. The Joker is one evil sociopath with no origin, no identity, and no motivate but to see the world burn.
Go see this movie!

My husband and I went to see the movie on Saturday evening....expecting an entertaining movie....If was beyond our expectations. Heath Ledger's "Joker" was an incredible performance. Isn't it sad that he is not here to enjoy the praise. The special effects were the best...This movie will win many awards. I recommend THE DARK KNIGHT at everyone.

Chris Nolan's decision to use CGI for Two Face was a huge disappointment. The appearance of the character is laughable compared to what Disney achieved with the Pirates franchise. Harvey Dent looks like a bad version of a back up character recycled from "The Mummy," movies. Christian Bale over did his "evil Batman" voice, but turned out a decent performance. This movie would have been a huge disappointment if it were not for Heath Ledger's brilliant performance as the Joker. He saved the franchise from going down a different path. I sincerely hope Morgan Freeman's character is not written out of the third movie. It looks like they may be contractual disputes with the actor evidenced by his feelings regarding Batman's misuse of his sonar technology. There were too many vilians for this sequel. The joker would have sufficed, but Harvey Dent pushed the run time to a grueling two and a half hours. The Chinese guy was a waste of valuable screen time that could have been dedicated to scenes including the Joker. If anyone from Warner Brother's Studio is reading this please contact me so I can keep you from ruining the second movie. I will be happy to come on-board as a consultant.

This Movie is a host of incredible performances. The audience was left silent at the beginning in anticipation and at the end in awe.
Heath Ledger's best performance and likely in the top three cinematic performances...period. Christian Bale's "batman voice" is a little off-putting but only if you focus on it.
The depth of plot and character is well beyond what would be expected from a comic-book inspired action film and has a dark humor to it. Top marks for action and special effects without getting too far into the "no effing way" category. I am going to see this in IMAX too for sure, and I barely even go to the movies twice a year...let alone the same movie twice.
Prepare to be amazed.

The Dark Knight does not disappoint. Weighed against all the Batman movies that have gone before, Dark Knight expands on the the excellent foundation fpoured in Batman Begins. Sometimes Dark Knight is not an easy film to watch or think about. All the major characters have thought provoking dialogue that make you evaluate the innate nature of humankind. Choices, luck, change, chaos, nobility, heroism, selfishness, sadism... the issue of trust is brilliantly fleshed out. A great flick.

Easily the best movie of the summer. Easily the best superhero movie of all time. Maybe the best action movie ever. All around one of the best movies I've ever seen. I know, bold statement, but it had everything. Amazing backstory, character development was amazing, you felt each characters pain. If you didn't get chills you aren't alive. Dark, Dark, Dark. PG-13 my *ss. I think any parent that took a child to this movie should have child services come to their house and take their children and put them in jail. NOT FOR KIDS. Very disturbing. One of my favorite movies ever. WOW

indeed, the latest installment delivers more than one could ever ask from a batman movie, and yes, it has raised the bar for the superhero genre.
there are several moments of cinematic brilliance, many of them coming from the dark knight in his natural elements... nighttime, the city, and action sequences. bale had already proved he's the best guy for the suit, here we get more of that same brooding intensity.
it's no surprise that the film ultimately belongs to heath ledger. having felt nicholson's joker wore thin in burton's '89 batman, i found ledger's full-bodied performance even more gratifying, and genuinely terrifying.
that said, aaron eckhart's performance shouldn't be overlooked. sadly his storyline ends up being a bit rushed in the second half and doesn't get the proper character arc it deserves.
unfortunately the movie also suffers from confusion and bloat due to tedious subplots and overuse of moral rhetoric. and while my gripes may seem minor, i think they are enough to keep it from masterpiece status.
it's hard not to compare the dark knight to the other recent brilliant superhero flick in iron man. while iron man doesn't boast a masterful performance nor good vs. evil battle on an epic scale, it clearly benefitted from being sleeker and inducing more humor. i left the theatre this time feeling a bit drained, rather than excited and ready for more.

I am not a big fan of comics really. However, I am familiar with most of them. I was thinking that it would be a good movie, however it was an EXCELLENT movie. The stunts are beautiful and you can only fully enjoy it at a theater. Definitely go see it.

This was a great action packed sit on the edge of your seat film. Although I still feel like Christian Bale sounds like he is taking a dump when he is in his Batman persona it doesn't effect my view of the movie. Ledger was fracking awesome as the Joker and he really makes you feel like this clown is a phsyco. Other notable performances are Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart both were great! I don't recommend taking young kids but those 7 and older should have no problems with most of the content in this moive.

It isn't often that a movie this big is really this good. Hype-hype-hype and then disappointment--I find this to often be true with Hollywood productions.
The Dark Knight proved different.
I will admit that I left the theater feeling a bit uneasy, perhaps uncomfortable with some of the content, my heart again broken for Heath Ledger.
Put the package together and The Dark Knight exemplified the way things are today--somewhat dreary and dark.

After all the buzz about this movie, I guess it could not fail to disappoint. However, I did not just think it disappointing, I thought it especially bad.
The plot is confusing, the dialog is mostly impossible to understand (and when it can be heard it includes trite things like "It is always darkest before dawn"). Continuity is totally absent.
Who is doing what to whom, and when, here?
Heath Ledger is good but not great--all the hype is really sympathy because he died.
The best thing about this experience was seeing the trailer for Terminator, which opens next summer.
If you are a Batman fan wait until DK is available on HBO.

The dark Knight is an action-packed movie. While the stunts are beautifully choreographed and orchestrated, the length of the movie tests your patience. Christian Bale has given a nice and subdued performance. The highlight of the movie is Heath Ledgers portrayal of 'The Joker'. No one else could have given a better performance!
On the whole, it's a good but very long movie!

Best superhero movie so far. Very intense, surprised I could sit through a movie this long and be as engrossed as I was. Bale and Ledger were fantastic. Haven't seen a 'mainstream' movie that did as good a job as putting the characters and everyday people in really tough situations. Could have ended about three times but each time just kept on going and getting better. Looking forward to the next one. Will definitely see this again.

Everything they said about Heath Ledger was right on. He is phenomenal in this role, almost to a point where it is scary to have someone so fully transform himself into this role.
However, the movie was long and many times, I was wondering whether or not we had finally gotten to the climactic scenes. It turns out that this movie could have ended two or three times before it finally did. When it was finally over, I was relieved rather than wanting more.
It was a good movie and the special effects were great. But it got exhausting after a while. Being surrounded by giggling teenagers didn't help either.
Word of advice: wait until the teen crowd thins out.

I have to say that I was defininitely impressed with this movie. While I was skeptical before seeing it on opening night, I was invited by some friends to go. I was still trying to figure out if I really wanted to see a movie with Heath Ledger in it, knowing that he was dead. Not only was I glad I accepted my friends' invitation, I have been telling others that I would go see it again. And I gotta say...though somewhat creepy at the thought of who was behind all the makeup and psycho ways, he was the best in the film! And to tell you the extent of how well Ledger did in the movie...if I hadn't known he was the Joker, I would have never known he was in the movie...

This movie was absolutely amazing, but there were a cople things I would have changed if I were the producer of this film. I would gone into better detail as to what happend to the joker in the scene when batman and he first meet, batman falls out of the window and the joker just disappears? Fishy. Also in the making of harvey's bad side of the face, I wish it could have been more realistic, with less cgi tricks. The point of the new batman series is to explore the realistic side of this hero compared to the previous batman movies which were a bit farfetched, and by pushing their computer skills to make harvey's face, the creators took a little bit away from the realism. Overall this movie was outstanding; it was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It did not disappoint!

Don't believe the hype. This movie is an overlong ,overated, nihilistic piece of crap with a very disturbing set of underlying messages (i.e.: the public needs to be lied to, people can't handle truth, scapegoats are necessary, illegal spying on citizens is ok if it's for "the common good", and many more).
Heath Ledger was good and he is the only thing that saves this movie. His character was the most "honest" character in the movie, while our supposed heroes came across as a bunch of impotent, incompetent, hypocrites whose over self-righteousness basically brought this blowback upon themselves.
