Christopher Nolan has done an awesome job with this latest installment in the Batman series. I was on the edge of my seat every moment -- the special effects are nearly flawless, the action scenes are inventive and hair-raising, and Nolan's treatment of Gotham appropriately chilling. Heath Ledger's performance is fantastic and very well captured by the film's editors. Finally a Batman movie that gets at the dark heart of the myth!

....."Batman Begins" is a tough act to follow.
.....And I was dubious of the mounting hype over Heath Ledger's final performance, as people tend to get all teary and sentimental and say "He's just like James Dean!" Well, Ledger is nothing like James Dean.
.....That said, I must say that "The Dark Knight" was a phenomenal film. Simply wonderful. Christian Bale somehow maintained the powerful, menacing momentum he built up in "Begins", supported by such powerhouse actors as Michael Cain and Morgan Freeman. But the real delight -- hype aside -- really was Heath Ledger. I wouldn't have recognized him. And before you can say, "He was wearing clown make-up, dummy," let me clarify that it was his voice, mannerisms, even his bodily movements that were altered. That together with the disguised face and brilliant acting choices left a character that you just couldn't look away from. Of course, you have to credit the writing as well. But here I was looking at a Joker where I felt his every twitch held a threat of unexpected violence.
.....Was "The Dark Knight" as good as "Batman Begins"? Boy, that's a tough one. I'd say... almost. The origin tale is really compelling in "Begins". You'd better judge for yourself. You'll enjoy it, guaranteed.

This was a fantastic movie! I have already seen it twice and was able to enjoy it equally both times! I would like to point out to nay-sayers that this doesn't feel like just another superhero movie. Batman is illustrated as an ordinary man with his power being extraordinary morals. Imagine that, morals. Now that is something I would like to teach my kids to live up to!

Batman is one of the darkest comics so it was appropriate that they made it as dark as they did. Violence is Batman so anyone expecting a family film is mistaken. This series is the best adaptation yet. A must see for anyone wanting a little more from hollywood. The Joker was incredible. Mr. Ledger left a legacy with this movie.

Let me just say that the hype is incorrect, only because the hype can not explain how excellent and well directed The Dark Night was. I didn't see this movie until last night(Sold Out Occasions), in digital projection...I was amazed for 2:30 hrs straight. There is NOTHING that can be negatively said about this movie. Batman shows his fierce and determined side as he does everything in his power to do what is right for Gotham weather it be wrong or right(If you can get that); Joker is pure in his character and lives up to his name in menacing ways (Superb acting!); and for those who know who Harvey Dent is, he ends up showing his "other" side. Growing up watching Batman in the animated series and watching the sequel to Batman Begins made me feel proud to be a Batman fan. So if you've known about Batman growing up, and watched him with all his surrounding characters your going to get a kick out of watching The Dark Knight unfold.

Bale, Ledger, and Eckhart are the dream, each delivering spectacular performances that will never be paralleled. Bale played Bruce Wayne and the Batman very well, being able to develope to seperate personalities and performing to the highest expectations ever made for any movie is oscar worthy
Heath Ledger, what can I say, he delivers the most legendary performance of his career and unfortunatly, his last. This man has oscars written all over him. and i hope hes looking down and seeing that we all appreciate him and his amazing ability to become the character he plays.
Andrew Eckhart, loved him in Thank You For Smoking, loved him in The Dark Knight even more. He plays Harvey Dent so perfectly, Tommy Lee Jones doesnt have anything on him.
The Dark Knight not only has set the bar for future superhero movies but has shown how much potential comic book movies can have and what they are capable of.
I have seen this movie 4 times and plan on seeing it again tonight in IMAX!!!!!

I have to agree with Ladybuglou. I also thought that the movie was destined to be ruined by all the hype. I was wrong, though. The acting, the dramatic elements, and the visual elements all worked together well to bring a heart-stopping, believable and heart-wrenching action drama. I walked away decidedly depressed that there may not be a third installment. But there is a shred of hope for those of us who are Christopher Nolan fans.

The run time of this movie is 2 and a half hours, but it seemed too short for the amount of content. You almost get two movies for the price of one, and every moment is chock full of such perfect dialogue, action, and exposition that it will take a couple of viewings for most people to grasp everything that happens in this movie. Two of my fellow movie-goers made me want to slam their heads together and knock some sense into them when they agreed that they were "underwhelmed" and that "it didn't live up to the hype." This movie stayed true to the dark and gritty graphic novels I discovered when the first Batman movie came out, while at the same time reinventing the story in such an original and unforgiving way that you can't help but feel closer to the characters you've known all your life (if you're a fanboy like me) or meeting for the first time, sharing the grueling and gruesome experience with them.
This movie is visceral yet oddly ethereal, as the Batman and the Joker dance gracefully through the chaos and destruction that encompasses their struggle. Heath Ledger's Joker is the perfect match for Christian Bale's Batman, fast and lithe while at the same time feeding on the fears of the common person. Harvey "Two-Face" Dent becomes the sooth-saying, tragic hero/villain at the center of the struggle between law and chaos as Aaron Eckhart channels his flawless politician-in-a-box abilities he honed in "Thank You For Smoking". My movie-going companions also ticked me off when they said that Heath Ledger should have been more "over-the-top" and that they weren't very impressed by his acting. This made me want to stick long knives up their noses. If you'd never seen any movies Heath had done before, or even if his name weren't on the credits, you would have no idea that was the same person behind that make-up. His performance is flawless, not needing to be over-the-top, as he has all the menace of a coiled snake when not quickly striking, enough to put the fear of clowns back into you if you've lost it somehow since you were young.
I ramble. Go see it. Just don't let me know if you don't think it lives up to all the hype, instead do us all a favor, drink everything you find under the sink, and then jump off a tall building. :-P

One word....Dark. Let me start by saying, I don't watch movie trailers. They reveal too much. That being said, I had not seen one clip of Heath as the joker, only movie posters at the theater. I was skeptical about the hype surrounding Heath's portrayal of the Joker, not anymore! His performance was so realistic, It gave me the creeps, not to mention the nightmares. (Alright, I'm exaggerating about the nightmare part, but I seriously did have dreams that I was battling this guy, ha, ha). This movie will definitely capture fans of the Batman series. Those who aren’t will say it’s a good movie, maybe great. I grew up watching batman cartoons and of course the batman movies in the late 80’s, early 90’s. Never had I thought of the joker as something other than an evil cartoon character. I saw a different side of the Batman series that I had never imagined. What if Batman were real and his enemies as well? If they were, this is definitely what they would be like. It was pretty deep for me and I think it would be the same for others who grew up watching Batman and reading the comics. 5 Stars for Christian’s performance. Oscar nomination for Heath’s performance. Negatives: Maggies performance pretty bad. Several scenes were cut to comply w/ PG13 rating. Should have just left them in and made it R rated. Hopefully the DVD will have the uncut version. Overall: Must see movie if you are a fan of Batman series. Great movie if you don’t really follow the Batman series.

Finally- a Batman movie done right! Although I'm a big fan of the previous batman movies- this one really brought it home. The reality made us believe in the story and the dark knight. The movie was good but not the best movie I have seen. I thought the action was very good at times. The plot was not that good to me because the movie was too long...2 hrs.30 mins. It had some slow moments where I nodded off. I would like to see the movie again when it comes out on DVD to get more feel for it.

Not only was this a great action movie with great special affects; the acting was superb. Heath Ledger evolved into the joker effortlessly and so convincingly that you honestly thought the joker existed.
The script was well written and kept you wanting more from beginning to end . Batman potrayed by Christian Bale was an acting job well done with Bale able to portray many different personalities in one movie. His voice alone captured your attention with every word he spoke.
Heath Ledger should definitely receive an Oscar for his acting in this film. The industry has definitely lost one of the best actors and unfortunately we lost him as he was just beginning to crack the ice with his acting skills.
Go see this movie not only for the action, special effects and content but do see how a truly great actor evolves in to his character. The joker could not have been portrayed any more believable than Leger himself!!

Heath Ledger stole the show with this performance. I thought no one could outdo Jack Nicholson as the Joker, but how wrong was I on that. Bale's Batman paled in comparison to the diabolical, psycopathic, Joker. AMAZING! Special affects (Two-Face is atrociously terrific), new fiendish ways to kill and to strike fear in the hearts of Gotham citizens. The movie had me on the edge of my seat, until the end. I usually feel at the end of the movie, a sense of completion or a sense of I can't wait to see the next movie. But, with the breaking of the Batman signal it just left me just that broken without a sense of completion or anxious to see the next film.

This movie greatly improved on the first Christian Bale Batman movie. It was action packed from start to finish and had lots of laughs along the way too. I'm sure you don't need my amateur review to know this is a great movie but I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates good movies. There was only one scene I (as a James Bond fan) scoffed at. There was a scene that greatly resembled a scene of 007 and Q from the older movies, but noone else noticed it. Rip Heath Ledger

Before I went to the movie, friends told me that it was going to be amazing, but I never expected it to be that good!! This would probably be the best movie I have ever seen by far! I thought the movie should have ended like 5 times but i would look at my phone and it would have another 2 hours left. It was great how they could keep it going like that!

Going into the movie, I didnt know what to expect except an action packed movie that was supposed to be top rated. It was most definitely. Im not a fan of batman however most of the viewers that saw this movie were. I found out, fan or not, it was a great movie. I reccomend this to anyone who doesnt mind spending 2 and a half hours watching a movie that seems to pass in only an hour, thus wishing for more.

i was hesitant to watch this movie because of all the hype! A few days before i seen the movie i watched "Batman Begins" and that movie put a whole new perspective on the Batman movies! i went last night and watched "The Dark Knight" and i thought it was amazing! The movie was 2 1/2 hrs long, but was action packed the entire time! The late Heath Ledger played a fantastic role as "The Joker" and Christian Bale, what more can i say, he did an amazing job! Overall movie was great!

Best Batman movie ever very dark and true enough to the comic book. My lady went and was very impress with the movie itself. in other words she loved it.
