In an age where Oscars for actors are handed out based on an extreme character, real or not, and insanity is almost necessary to portray the depth of an actor's ability, certainly Ledger will end up with not only a nod, but the first posthumous award given in over 4 decades.
This is NOT to say that his performance overshadows a story that is fluff to showcase his abilities, however. To the contrary, the likes of Oldman, Bale, Freeman, and Caine reprise their roles with a zealousness that seems to feed from this energy. Eckhart is a welcome addition to this cast, even with the "rushed" storyline which assuredly would have been much better over at least two films.
Action sequences, scenarios and the overall story are certainly well thought-out and fleshed by director Christopher Nolan. We can only hope that the third installation of this series can at least match the intensity, grit and acting in this film.
In the meantime, enjoy this one. Multiple times. This movie is what all hyped blockbuster films should aspire to be.

I saw the opening showing of Batman and it was well worth staying up late for. In the movie there are so many twist and turns that it keeps you thinking and on the edge of your seat on what is going to happen next and then something totaly different happens. the villian, The Joker. i think is one of the best villians I have ever seen in a movie everything he does was well planned and maintained all the way to the end of the movie.

This movie was definitely the best movie of the Summer. It was very dark and disturbing, but kept your attention the entire 2 1/2 hours. Heath Ledger's final role was probably his best role ever as he disturbingly pulls off the Joker. Christian Bale was excellent as always.

I went in expecting this to be one of the best comic book movies, and was still floored by its awesomeness. This has to be one of the top 3 movies I've seen in all my life, seriously. All the actors are at their prime, the story is written fantastically, and perfectly paced. The two and half hour running time intimidated me at first, but I was still wanting more when it ended. This is one of the first times I've seen a completely packed theater be perfectly quiet as we were all utterly captured by this great movie. I hope Christopher Nolan has a lot more in the works, but even then I'm hard pressed to imagine a movie better than this.

It was a really good movie; a little bit of a weird ending, but good overall. Heath Ledger did a very good job and it was a little sad to know he won't be here to hear the praise he's going to get.
At the end of the movie when they showed his name on the screen, we all stood up and clapped. I can't say I was that big of a fam of his, but it did make me emotional..
AMC Hoffman had seven to eight sold out theaters, but I got there an hour early and got a good seat. It quickly filled up.

I loved everything about this movie. It's as good and almost even better than Batman Begins. Heath Ledger's performance lives up to the hype and the entire cast was wonderful. The special effects were amazing, especially the semi truck flip. And the composers did a wonderful job with the music; it really kept you on the edge. Go see it!

The movie itself was nothing short of outstanding. We have all heard the buzz about Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker and the critics were right for once; he was amazing. All around a really great movie, but not for young children. I would definitely see it again.

I thought Ledger was incredible. I thought the effects were pretty good (notwithstanding the helicopter model in the wires).
I thought the movie lacked discipline, as it was an unwieldy 2.5 hours long and could have been wrapped up a lot earlier.
I thought Eckhart was good, but not great. And I thought his post-accident face was way too Pirates of the Caribbean.
I will buy the movie. But I think Batman Begins was better.

I knew it was going to be good, but I could never have imagined it would be *this* good. Breathless. Terrifying. Amazing. Heath Ledger's performance is as good as they say, and the sound of his twisted laughter will stay with you long after the credits roll.

The Dark Knight did an absolutely amazing job of keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire 2 hours and 30 minutes. Cinematography was so well done you felt like you were in some scenes. Acting was superb, in my opinion every member of the cast should win something for the incredible performance they gave. Nolan did an amazing job as well. all in all I give the movie a 7 out of 5... yeah it was that good!

This movie was fantastic. Even if you're not a Batman fan, this movie is just a great overall movie. The action, dialogue, and acting are superb. This movie starts fast and holds your breath until the end. The movie is a little longer than expected, but it is worth every minute and every penny you spend. A must see!!!!
As an aside, at the end, you really realize how good Heath Ledger was at his profession. He will be missed.

The first Spiderman film was lauded as visionary for having a downbeat ending. If that's the criteria for accolades, then the utterly bleak The Dark Knight must be hailed as an unparalleled triumph. Without skimping on action sequences - in fact., benefiting from the thoughtfully-placed and not continuous set-pieces - Nolan's sophomore effort in the reinvention of the franchise shows that even a $180+ million epic can have a heart - and a tortured soul. Casting is exquisite. Oldman, Bale, Eckhardt, and of course, Ledger, are a superb ensemble.

The Dark Knight lives up to all the hype and expectations given it over the past few weeks. Gloriously acted by Heath Ledger, the screen sizzles with intensity when he is on, and simmers with anticipation when he's not. The Dark Knight was one of the best sequels to a film I have seen in a long time. It was amazing. The cinematography was outstanding. Christian Bale did an amazing job in the movie and Heath Ledger was outstanding. It was so hard to tell that it was actually Heath Ledger. The movie actually surpassed my expectations of great and soared right up into the AMAZING area. It was beyond better than the first one. While the movie is long, and I do mean long, it is worth every minute. I can honestly say there were no moments where the movie became slow or boring and every minute something was going on that made the next scene impossible to wait for. Hands down one of the greatest movies I've seen in a long time. I would recommend it to anyone regardless of your hero movie preferences. Great, Great, Great movie. MUST SEE for Summer 2008.
One recommendation: SEE IT IN DLP. I can't imagine ANY other way to watch this movie. MAKE SURE the theater has DLP because it looks AMAZING.

The movie was an great mixture of suspense, plot, and great characters. Keeping up to it's name the "Dark Knight" has an great gothic feel. Batman was great, but Heath Ledger(RIP) Stole the show as "The Joker". I saw this movie at an midnight showing and the two and an half hours flew by.

I am normally a skeptic when it comes to believing that movies live up to the hype. In fact I have not had one yet. Till July 18th...
If you can get past the fan boys dressed in their batman apparel you will be very pleased to find one of the best performances in recent years. As not to give away the movie lets just say that it has your typical action scenes with explosions and one-liners. But this is not the highlight of the film.
Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely out-standing. He is the best villain since Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs. He was the movie and everyone else were his supporting cast. I am not just saying this because of the tragedy. If he were alive today he would be the most sought out actor hands down.
In one word he starts one of his best scenes, a simple "Hi" that had my guts wrenching. Best movie this year by far. Do not miss this one.
