In an age where Oscars for actors are handed out based on an extreme character, real or not, and insanity is almost necessary to portray the depth of an actor's ability, certainly Ledger will end up with not only a nod, but the first posthumous award given in over 4 decades. This is NOT to say that his performance overshadows a story that is fluff to showcase his abilities, however. To the contrary, the likes of Oldman, Bale, Freeman, and Caine reprise their roles with a zealousness that seems to feed from this energy. Eckhart is a welcome addition to this cast, even with the "rushed" storyline which assuredly would have been much better over at least two films. Action sequences, scenarios and the overall story are certainly well thought-out and fleshed by director Christopher Nolan. We can only hope that the third installation of this series can at least match the intensity, grit and acting in this film. In the meantime, enjoy this one. Multiple times. This movie is what all hyped blockbuster films should aspire to be.
