The action sequences were phenomenal, you would never guess you were in a movie theater for almost three hours. I will be seeing this again. I think this is the best movie I have seen all summer. Bring on the third!!However I truly feel this movie should have had an R rating and I will only let my child (12years) see this when it is our on DVD.

The masterful performance by the entire cast of The Dark Knight launches this movie to being one of the best movies of the decade. Director Christopher Nolan has done an excellent job at allowing each of the story's characters to be tested and develop as the movie unfolds. Tastefully done insuring that each of the major players had their own moment to shine Batman The Dark Knight is by far the best comic book movie ever produced. With the legendary performance of the late Heath Ledger as the Joker sure to win him an Oscar nomination, this movie is a must see for the entire family. Fantastically powerful yet disturbing The Dark Knight will have you gripped in suspense throughout the film, and will have you talking about it for days to come. In short, go see this fantastic film and don't see it once, see it twice.

This film was amazing. I think some people thought it was long, but had it been any shorter I think the viewer would have been unsatisfied with the ending. Everyone was great, most importantly Ledger, whose performance alone could carry the film. Special effects, amazing. Story never dragged. One of the best superhero movies yet.

I went into this movie sad that Heath Ledger was deceased. I left angry that he is no longer here. The Joker was an amazing performance. The Dark Knight also brought the complexity as seen in the comics back to Batman. This has the raised the bar for so-called genre movies.

So often when a superhero movie is done, for some reason it seems that Hollywood uses the same tactics for a script (and a piece on a whole) that they use for your basic action movie. But not with The Dark Knight.
The few times that I've heard regular people (not comic book readers) say they liked a superhero movie it seems like they always say that this one was different because it was a real story, not just a "comic book movie". The thing is that the movies they're complaining about (the last two of the old Batman franchise, etc.) aren't anything like a comic book story these days.
The Dark Knight is like a full fledged comic book story arc on screen. It's complex, full of character development, moral dilemma, and ideas posed about society in general.
Many comic books have been great literature for decades, but unfortunately the mainstream still sees them bubblegummy crap.
The Dark Knight delivers a story that is both plot and character driven, with some great acting (particularly by Ledger, Oldman, & Eckhart), and interesting ideas posed about where we are as a society.
Ledger's performance is as scary as they said it would be, with a "Hate to Love" factor (not "Love to Hate" because you don't hate him, but you feel that with the things he's doing you should.) His death truly is a loss to the world of acting, and any buzz about his performance (award-wise or other) would have been there had he not passed away.
The Nolans and David S. Goyer really took some of the most interesting elements of a 70-year-old mythos and turned it into a great crime drama.

The movie was almost a great movie, but at points it tends to drag on. The action is trilling and exciting. Not a movie for small children, but teenagers and adluts will love it. Some parts of the movie are predictable from just seeing batman movies before, but the adventure is intriguing, overall I would recommend this movie with excellent ratings.

Overall, the movie was well written and well acted. Great special effects...
I would have enjoyed seeing Two Face in a later seq. appearance. His time in Gotham was too short. Maybe he'll be revived?

I will buy DVD and may even see in theater again...

How is it that the example review title is the best possible way to describe the epicness that is "The Dark Knight"? I have no idea how to properly describe this movie, so I'll do it in categories:
1. Cinematography: Many of the heist sequences were filmed in IMAX, and WOW, does it show. Numerous shots are breathtaking, particularly the Hong Kong scenes with Batman, and the Police march scenes. 10/10
2. Music: Hans Zimmer may be the most overused composer in the business, but he really gives a knockout soundtrack; it keeps the suspense to a knifepoint (irony) at the perfect spots, and it really gives a sense of disorder and chaos whenever The Joker is in the room. 11/10
3. Story: Brilliant. Pure brilliance. Twists and turns at EVERY corner. Many fans may be put off that Ledger's Joker doesn't have bleached skin and green hair, like Jack Nicholson in particular, but honestly, when Batman is the most realistic superhero, why would The Joker be such an unrealistic villain, since there is no way that can happen. The Joker's backstory is never fully explained either, like in the 1989 Tim Burton "Batman" film; the only backstory the audience learns is through two conflicting stories The Joker tells about how he got his scar "smile," but to me, this makes The Joker all the more intriguing. The Joker threatens to kill people every day that Batman does not reveal himself and turn himself in, and every trick Batman knows isn't working to catch him, because he has finally found someone more calculating, anonymous and unpredictable than him. Yet, contradictory to the Joker's first line, what ever doesn't kill you does not make you "stranger," but indeed, stronger, because it makes Batman reexamine his resolve, strengthening it like reforged steel. However, the first time I saw this film, I thought that the final scene and ending had nothing to do with the main plot and was VERY abrupt, but now I realize that it is indeed very relevant to themes of the movie, and really is an original ending. Be warned, there is NO denouement or introduction; the plot comes out of the gate at lightspeed and doesn't stop for a minute until the end. 1000000000000000000000000000000/10
4. Script: YET MORE BRILLIANCE. I have NEVER seen a comic book movie with a better, deeper script and themes than this film. Christopher and Jonathan Nolan take Batman VERY seriously, and the themes of "What is a hero?", "What is the price of justice?" and "Deep down, are we all insane enough to kill?", are not only well thought-out but remind me a lot of "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. The dialogue between Batman and The Joker is particularly excellent, and really shows that even though they are perfect opposites, ironically, they are the same type of person. 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000/10
5. Acting: This is where "The Dark Knight" goes from simply "excellent" to "PERFECTION." Even though Christian Bale is a great and thoughtful, yet terrifying and menacing Batman, Gary Oldman is a perfectly ernest and honest Lt. Gordon, Rachel Dawes, played by Maggie Gyllenhall (personally the biggest improvement from Batman Begins, since Katie Holmes can't act her way out of a paper bag), is a very good conflicted love interest, and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face is one of most tragic characters in modern cinema ... THIS IS HEATH LEDGER'S SHOW. It is simply MIND-BOGGLING how unique and complicated The Joker is in the hands of Heath Ledger. Actually, that is a bad analogy, because Heath Ledger IS The Joker. He perfectly replicates my favorite version of him, as seen in "The Killing Joke" by Alan Moore, where he is pure chaos and anarchy incarnated, and he is having a hell of a good time being it. Once again, be warned, The Joker in this film is the most diabolical villian since Anton Chugurh in "No Country for Old Men," and I would argue, more evil, since, ironically like Two-Face, he uses a coin to pick who he kills as his one rule, yet The Joker does anything and everything he wants. Heath Ledger alone turns this film into what could even be an R film if they showed the blood and gore of the violence, not to mention the certainty that any child under 10 will be scared out of their wits by him, but yet turns the film into a more mature, all the more beautiful an allegory. The real tragedy is that this would have been the best role of his career, and is the best acting I have seen all year. Actually, now that I think about it, this contributes even more to the theme of chance and chaos, since the world randomly chooses who lives and who dies, regardless of how talented or young they are. Nevertheless, if Heath Ledger does not get a posthumous Oscar, it will be one of the greatest crimes against humanity in the history of Hollywood.

Best comic book movie of all time, yet, once again, is ironic since it feels nothing like a comic book movie, it's waaay too realistic for that. That is the true triumph of the film, that I think is a major accomplishment for all aspiring comic book films, because now people realize just HOW GREAT and relevant these characters and stories are. On the flipside of that (pun intended), the bar is PERMANENTLY RAISED much, much higher. There is almost no way the third film can be as good, especially without Heath Ledger.

After catching the premiere, I can say I'm stunned. This movie blew me away from start to finish.
Yes it's cheesy, but it's a movie based on a comic book character, so that much should just be a given.
Everyone was superb in this, even Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachael Dawes.
Though yes as we all expected Heath Ledger stole the show. The Joker was the loudest and craziest person throughout the movie. Batman had his moments and Harvey Dent wasn't any push over either, though I do wish they used him a little more. But I can't complain, since Ledger seemed to be the one to really bring this together. Everyone else seemed more comfortable with their roles this time around, and didn't seem too forced or anything. So also without any origins to worry about, this time we could all sit back and enjoy this crazy ride.

See this Movie. Its as simple as that. If you need a reason, Heath Ledger. What is so fascinating about his role is that you do not see Ledger at all in the movie. You see only his twisted, near-demonic creation as it draws you in and doesn't let you go for the entire ride. Add to that a cast that is more than solid throughout, and you have no excuse not to go.

The Dark Knight was great. Great acting. Great action. Great dialog. Great plot. Great everything. Heath Ledger was incredible. The Joker was an awesome mix of very creepy, funny, and brutal. The Dark Night exceeds expectations created by its predessor, Batman Begins. The superior performances of the returning cast is enhanced by a solid performance by Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. Best of all is Heath Ledger's final role as the Joker.
The one major disappointment in the film was Maggie Gyllenhaal, but she was somewhat better than Katie Holmes in the previous movie.
The action sequences and special effects were all that we have come to expect from the best of superhero movies. I left the theater anxious for the next installment of Batman.

Oh man, this movie was everything I hoped it would be and more! As both an avid fan of the character of Batman from the original comic books and an amateur movie buff I have to say this one has got it all: the direction, the script, the actors & their performances; whether you are a fan of the comic books or just someone looking for a good movie to go to that is both action-packed and full of well-developed characters brought to life by excellent performances from a stellar cast, The Dark Knight will not dissapoint.

Absolutely one of the best superhero movies to date. It is not an exaggeration to say that Heath Ledger gives an Academy Award winning performance as the Joker. This movie had a flawless script penned by the Nolans, and the entire cast shines in their own right. AMAZING!

You know a lot of hype was going around about heath ledger's portrayal f the Joker and you know what, they were all true. heath ledger was not just amazing but extraordinarily. hes the perfect joker and i hope they will not make another batman movie with the joker because this joker can not be top. Besides heath ledger the whole movie was awesome, great special effects and great story, i;m hoping they will make another soon with the same actors but defiantly a different bad guy-this movie is defiantly not for kids but if your up to it I absolutely suggest seeing it!
