Heath Ledgers performance was absolutely epic. He fully embodied the Joker and when you watched him you couldn’t help but become fully captivated and want the movie to be only about him; truly indescribable. Corky and creepy, he kept you entertained and made you believe he was the Joker. By far the best depiction of the Joker yet and will be a hard role to fulfill any other way in the future. Playing the Joker was the best role for Heath to go out on because it was his best performance during his acting career. He will be strongly missed and “Batman” will not only be seen for the classic Batman plot, but to pay respect to Heath and his family. As for the rest of the movie: still amazing. Even though it was long it kept you interested with so many twists and turns. All the actors delivered an outstanding performance and made the movie not only an action movie but a comical, meaningful, heartfelt, thrilling one as well. I went to the midnight show and everyone showed up excited and left with that movie “high.” None of us were disappointed and couldn’t wait for all of our friends and family to see it.

This movie is perhaps the best I have ever seen. It blows every other superhero movie out of the water, and with the calibur of those other films that is saying a lot. The characters were put back at the basis of what they were originally written at, such as the joker being demnted instead of goofy. Heath Ledger nailed this role in by far the best performance of his life and Christian Bale continued his stern, heroic, and brooding role of Batman. This is a must-see movie and it is breaking movie record history as we speak.

Best movie I've seen in a while. Not good for kids under 10 years of age though...but that's your call(depends how mature they are). Great action sequences, but awsome underlying moral tone. Watching it again soon. Well worth the money and time. Go watch it DO IT!!!!!!!

The dark knight is dark and this movies should turn the lights out on other movies for the time. Its dark and funny and a adventure all in one package.The movie is action packed from the very begin to the end. The late heath ledger lives up to the role off the joker as well as anyone who has played the joker. He is so good to when his charater is not on the screen your looking for him.This movie gets 4 out of 5 stars from me, only because me and some of the people i wacthed it with were still a lil disappointed in bale's batman voice, but other then that this is a must see movie.

I havent had this much enjoyment watching a movie since Braveheart. Perfectly performed characters such as Joker, and Batman were realistic enough that I found myself drawn to them. The story was better than I had hoped for as well. Countless times I found myself asking myself what I would do in the given situation since some of the twists and turns of the movie were so unpredictable and difficult to make. There are few movies that are MUST SEE movies in a lifetime, and this is certainly one of them.

Last night, I had the privilege of making it to an opening night showing of Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight." Me and some friends of mine went the extra mile and dressed up as characters from the Batman comic book series. Walking around the theatre while people applauded us may have somewhat biased all of our opinions, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the movie. In my opinion, it is without a doubt the best superhero movie of all time. I also believe it to be the most important movie of our generation. This has nothing to do with how action-packed, how psychologically-thrilling, and, at times, how heart-wrenching it was. This has nothing to do with Christopher Nolan's superb direction. This has nothing to do with James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer's incredible score. I'm sure you see where I'm going with this by now.
On the 22nd of January, 2008, Hollywood lost one of it's best actors. I didn't realize it until seeing "The Dark Knight" how incredibly talented the late Heath Ledger really was. Heath was of a different breed of actor. When you fished out 10 bucks to see a Heath Ledger movie, you weren't paying to see Heath Ledger. You paid to see the Joker, or Ennis Del Mar, or Skip, and that's what acting is really all about. I don't want to see Jason Statham being Jason Statham, or Vince Vaughn being Vince Vaughn. I want to see actors stepping outside of their comfort zones. I want to see the effort in every inch of their body. I want to see them blink differently, raise their eyebrows differently, lick their lips differently, laugh differently.
If you have the free time, go to imdb.com and look at Heath Ledger's page. The first movie he was really noticed in was "10 Things I Hate About You" in 1999. Since then, he went on to star in "The Patriot," "A Knight's Tale," "Monster's Ball," "Lords of Dogtown," "Brokeback Mountain," "I'm Not There," and finally, "The Dark Knight." In nine short years he had already accomplished so much, but had still left so much yet undone. Had he lived longer, I think he would be considered just as great an actor as Johnny Depp, Daniel Day-Lewis, or Tom Hanks.
Even if he was alive to make more movies, I think "The Dark Knight" would still be the pinnacle of his career. Heath Ledger took a role that everyone believed he could not pull off without looking like a fool compared to Jack Nicholson's Joker. But he took it, and he made it his own. Heath Ledger's Joker is not only a departure from himself, but a departure from humanity. For the first time in cinema history, I believe audiences were actually frightening by a comic book villain. Everyone who once claimed Heath could not pull it off, myself shamefully included, left the theatre last night kicking themselves for thinking something that couldn't be further from the truth.
On track to possibly become the highest grossing film of all time, I hardly need to tell you to go see "The Dark Knight." But if you're not a Batman fan, not a comic book fan, not an Aaron Eckhart fan, or even not a Heath Ledger fan, you still need to see this movie. Critics are already calling for the first posthumous Best Actor award since 1976, when Peter Finch won Best Actor for "Network." There is much more importance to this film other than just being another Batman sequel.
While I sat in the theatre, watching the movie in my full Joker costume, there was a certain surreal ambience to be felt as we all saw Heath performing his best and last role. In the months following Heath's death, it meant nothing more than a topic of conversation to me. "The Dark Knight" showed me exactly what we lost in January. Actors of Heath Ledger's caliber are in short supply. It is not often that we are given the chance to see an artist performing his trade with such skill and mastery that we can only assume it must be God-given.
Go see "The Dark Knight." Get over your homophobia and go rent "Brokeback Mountain." Deal with the fact that you might not fully understand a movie and watch "I'm Not There." Resort to seeing a movie you probably know nothing about and get your hands on "Lords of Dogtown." And when "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" is finally released, get yourself to the theatre on opening night. Don't do it as a tribute to Heath, as some personal way of paying your respects. Do it for yourself. For far too long have we settled for sub-par performances from our paid entertainers. For far too long have we written million dollar checks to actors so that they can vomit an exact replica of their true personality onto every film they make. Go watch "The Dark Knight," and see what acting and moviemaking should be. R.I.P Heath.

Which it undoubtedly deserves. This movie is by far one of the best films i have ever seen. I am not a critic nor have ever written a comment on a film before in my life but have to admit I'm blown away and feel compelled to leave a few words on this one. The acting... absolutely flawless from all throughout the film. The Joker's portrayal makes you loose interest in the other characters including Batman himself. Not because their bad but because Ledger is so damn good! His joker is and will remain legendary. He is everything Daniel Day Lewis said he is as an actor. Overall just unbelievably intensifying throughout and it lasts until the very end....go see it, it's truly worth experiencing!

I was sceptical because of the hype of Heath's passing thinking that is bringing this review of good performance for him. But I was taken back, his performance is legendary. I was captivated in watching him and how it wasn't the make up, but how he projected mentally and physically a cool spooky character. The story line was impressive including the special effects...I will see in the theater again!

First ten minutes worried me a bit that the movie would be lame, and Maggie Gyllenhal was a dissapointment compared to Katie Holmes; it did not have the same emotional effects because as an audience, I didn't feel as connected to her; it seemed like a new character alltogether (without a past with Bruce). But Christian Bale and Heath Ledger did an AMAZING job and the movie turned out extremely good.

This movie basically revolves around batman becoming someone who is more than a hero. Someone who is willing to be hated in order to help the people of Gotham to save themselves. This is a much darker movie than the first one and even more of a psychological thriller. The film has plenty of action but still manages to focus on the emotions and reasoning behind the characters actions. This is especially so with the character known as The Joker. The Joker is a man that comes out of nowhere to Gotham City and succeeds in throwing the city into chaos. His plans are to create a complete anarchy within the city while Batman must fight him in order to instill a more stable, fair system. The Joker is definitely a fascinating villain even without his creepy yet funny comments. He is a man who wants nothing but to see the world burn as Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred, basically summed up. The Joker indeed contributed largely to the greatness of the movie but even without him the film certainly pulled its own weight with the excellent storyline and a talented cast.

This is a really good movie, but it wasn't a good idea to go to the 12:01 showing and then try to go home and go to sleep. Very intense with lots of action...loved the chase scenes! Heath Ledger is brilliant as The Joker. His performance is Oscar worthy for sure. I will go back to the theatre and see this one again.

This is an incredible movie. All movie goers (whether your a comic book fan or not) should see it. The story was engaging, twisting, and thrilling I have never been in a theater where the crowd was so silent. Everyone was so focused, waiting for the next frame. Heath Ledger's performance was astounding and it is clear why critics early on were celebrating it. He, in every sense, is a true villain in this movie. I would recommend this movie to everyone (not to younger kids because it honestly can be very disturbing) but anyone who wants to see a great movie needs to see The Dark Knight.

The acting in this movie was incredible. Christian Bale makes a great Batman. I always like Gary Oldman. But Heath Ledger really stole the show for me. He didn't just get into character, he was the character. His performance was really breathtaking.

The acting and directing in this movie were absolutley spectacular (Ledger will get a posthumos Oscar!). The characters were very well developed, the story line was fleshed out and followed through and the special effects were unbelievable. This movie was much-hyped.....and it did not disappoint. I've seen cautions against younger children seeing the movie, but I don't necessarily agree. I don't remember seeing any blood and the deaths of people were not actually shown. There was very little cussing and nothing major. The movie might be considered boring by some of the much younger children who need constant action to keep their attention, but I did not see any reason that a young Batman fan could not attend and thoroughly enjoy it.

This movie completely stunned me. I had very high expectations going into the movie, and was blown away by the results. The plot was gripping from start to finish, and the action was incredible. The hype train coming into this film was absolutely ludicrous. Tie-in Pizzas? Tie-in Phone and Data Services commercials? Terribly executed puns regarded the Joker? Endless fanboy rabidism? Check. Check. Check. Check. And above all, the promise to deliver the best film of this season, perhaps decade? Check.
As a long-time cinephile, this kind of build-up is hard to overcome when seeing the film for the first time. That said, the film was still excellent, but not without its flaws.
I will open with everything that was good.
Batman and the Joker (and Gordon).
I won't elaborate with a thematic or cinematic analysis here, but everything to do with Batman vs. the Joker was spot-on. Bale retained his tough-as-nails but just portrayal and Ledger captured the menace that is the Joker. It was strange to see Bale get upstaged, but that's exactly what happened. I'll save the sugar-coated words here, but Ledger's performance was essentially flawless. That was the Joker. The thematic duality Nolan set-up was executed just right between Batman and the Joker. But that is where the third leg of this thematic structure shows its underdeveloped side.
Now I will give my primary complaints.
Harvey Dent.
Much has been said about this superior portrayal of Two-Face, but I did not find this one to be as engaging as the comic-book or animated series counterpart. It was surprising that this 'ace in the hole' to the films plot and thematic arc would be treated so circumstantially. Dent is flat from the beginning to end. Maybe it has to do with the whole 50/50 foundation to his transformation, but I really really thought they were going somewhere with Two-Face when they showed his two-heads coin before the accident. I was wrong, however. We go from 100% positive (two-headed coin) idealist to psychologically and physically scarred agent of chance in a matter of ten minutes. The entire ending bit with Two-Face fell flat, as there was nothing new or refreshing put into the whole aspect of 50/50 that they had hinted at being in the middle of the film (two-headed coin). Dent's character arc and entire thematic meaning to the film were weakened by a very simplistic portrayal in comparison to that of Batman and the Joker.
Music.
I love the Joker scratch, but I could not stand the ever-present, dull strings and the overmixed staccato surprise and suspense cues. I am not a hater of Hans Zimmer or Newton-Howard, but this film score was lackluster and boring, which is a bad thing when it becomes louder than the dialogue at key points in the film. Quite the opposite of what the film itself was doing and a big detriment in my opinion.
All of that said, this is only my first impression. I hope this review was helpful and informative. My final review will come after I see it again, in its original film stock at IMAX.

The dark knight was clearly the best comic book movie I have ever seen. Heath ledger as the Joker blew me away every time he was on the screen. I only wish they would have made two-face lead on to the next movie.
