I liked the movie...........I did not LOVE it.
I personally felt it ran a little too long for my tastes. There was alot that could have been left out. I felt, as odd as it was to watch Heath Ledger on the screen, Heath (rest in peace) did a phenomenal job with what he was given as a character and script. They popped the Joker in and out of the film too fast and too much. Maggie Gyllenhal is not one of my favorite actresses and she certainly did not shine in this film. While I do miss the kookyness of the old Batman movies and the old series I do understand the direction they are taking the cinema series in; darker. Anyone that reads my reviews knows I don't like "Oh, God, not that!" scenes there were a few of those. If you pay attention, while watching, you will pick up on major differences between this and the first movie. No, I'm not writing them here, I won't spoil any thing about this film. I only watch the movies so I can't comment on how close to the comic books or cartoons it comes, so I'll leave it at that. The movie was worth going to see, it had a lot going on, and it did keep my attention but it didn't seem to grab me in that "Wow" way. Go see it and decide for yourself. These are just my feelings.

Truly a Historic, and remarkable film. Heath Ledger's final performance will without a doubt get him an oscar nomination and a possible win. His incredible adaptation of the Joker blew away the competition, and declares this film to be his final and best performance of his career. The story held true to the comics as Harvey Dent's character played by Aaron Eckhart was to the T. And of course Christian Bale delivers again as the true Dark Knight that Batman really is. A Dark, Angry, Mysterious, and Vengeful hero. I feel that after I go see it again this Sunday (Yes, I have to see it again), I will be able to truly say that this was the best Batman film of all time. 2nd to this was Batman Begins. Christopher Nolan and his crew have finally given us the true Batman. If you are a Batman fan, a Heath Ledger fan, or any kind of movie lover, you must go see this film.

Truly phenomenal - Heath Ledger should receive an academy award for best supporting actor for this role, he just comes unhinged. And Christian Bale, well - he is over the top, once again. See this on IMAX if you can, if not, then the biggest screen you can find.
A true masterpiece.

Obviously Heath Ledger was the standout performer, but the casting for the Dark Knight (and Batman Begins) was genius. Maggie Gyllenhaal is more believable than Katie Holmes (big surprise, eh?), and even Nestor Carbonell as the mayor was a good choice. Gary Oldman's true accent comes out when he raises his voice and gets angry, and some of the editing was choppy, but the performances were all believable. Who'd have thought Aaron Eckhart would make a good Harvey Dent? Great movie, especially given that it's a Batman action thriller - and yes, that's meant to insult any Batman previous to Batman Begins!

The Dark Knight is an excellent movie because of the mixture of action and psychology the writers and director Chris Nolan infused within it. At nearly two and half hours long, the movie hits a drag point at around two thirds of the way in, but the effective use of The Joker keeps the movie's pace from falling away.
Every character is dealt with realistically (as far as comic book characters go) and there are some serious insights into the motivations of both Batman and The Joker. The creators took a risk with the highly serious content in the movie, but balanced it with the perfect amount of action / comic fan service.
Despite thinking that the story would be straightforward, I was happily proven wrong with a wonderfully twisting plot line that rewards active viewers and successfully resolves any confusion (as far as I could tell).
A fantastic movie that I will undoubtedly see twice or more in theaters. Heath Ledger is outstanding as The Joker, perfectly capturing the psychosis of the character, if psychosis is truly even what The Joker is suffering from. I will definitely purchase the special edition when it releases on DVD, which hopefully will have interviews with Ledger on his role as The Joker.
A sequel more worthy than its predecessor, fans of Gotham City will not be disappointed in The Dark Knight.

After seeing The Dark Knight, I left the theater completely exhausted due to the complex plot and multiple character story lines, but the acting in this film is impeccable. Heath Ledger as the Joker is legendary and eerily believable. Christian Bale and Aaron Eckhart also have extremely well-played roles. I would absolutely recommend this movie, as it is going to be remembered forever. No one will be able to forget these performances.

This is a movie that will keep you enthrauled and focused even beyond the closing credits. Still i find my mind examining the layers upon layers of plot and symbolism that can be found in"The dark knight." Furthermore, this latest batman movie has covered all its bases. It is a horror movie...with a complex and foolproof plot, it is a action movie...with highly developed characters, it is a romance...yet it avoids cliches, it is a super-hero movie...yet it is not at all cheesy, it is a crime-drama...but it is not melodramatic. It is the perfect movie for lovers of any genre. Yet out of all my praise for the superb and versatile film, i reserve the most awe-inspired and reverent praise to heath ledger's "joker". He truly melted into the character and became the very villain of the comics. He was a terrifying psychotic killer without a doubt, but he also allowed you to occasionally see beneath his mask (no pun intended) and into the hurts of his dark past. He managed to play a perfect supervillain while maintaining a very round character. Phenomenal. Four thumbs up!

This is one of the best films I've seen in quite a while. I thought the hype about Heath Ledger's performance was because of his tragic death; not true. Jack Nicholson was a great Joker; Heath Ledger takes it to new heights. His performance even overshadows that of Christian Bale, who is by far my favorite Batman and one of my favorite actors. The whole movie has an entertainingly uneasy feel to it. Don't bring young children to see this movie! If you like dark movies, you'll love this one! The are no bad performances in this film. It's just a shame we can't see what Heath Ledger would do for an encore.

The Dark Knight is not only the best of the rebooted Batman franchise, the best of the franchise overall ( yes better than the beloved 1989 Batman), perhaps the best DC based movie ever, it is a truly affecting and powerfull psycho drama. Playing on the ancient ideas of rising above humanities baser habits, with the Joker a sharp blade aimed at the heart of peoples nobler ideals, Batman is one part of a trinity of good men trying to save their city from itself. I do not wish to reveal any plot than the already rumored and revealed in press, so I will not make any plot summary for you. I will say that Ledger's performance is full of manic menace and some dark humor, it is a true loss that he will not be back to make us smile again. The plot is full of great moments, twists and turns abound, yet it is not overbloated like others in the series and in this genre. One last note, as a fan who is well aware that even the most satisfying take on Batman can have different flavors, this is a truly dark blend, I would say like the bitterest black coffee. Very intense and violent. Please use good judgement before bringing young children. I want you and the other viewers to enjoy this movie and I don't want to here that a hero of mine has traumtised young ones. I f you have an 8 year old or younger who loves Batman from the animated series, as my son does, get a sitter and rent the Batman:Mask of the Phantasm animted movie for them, or bye it cheap so you can enjoy the similiar story with your kids.

Great performances by Heath Ledger and, a surprising turn by Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent.
Ledger's performance has been longly anticipated in many forums, and you won't be disappointed. Richly deserves the Oscar in my humble opinion. He not only takes this role and makes it his own, he loses himself in it, bringing to it a level chaos and monstrosity that knows no bounds.
Oldman, Caine, and Freeman are back in their comfortable roles and are quite capable here, and Gyllenhaal fits in as a replacement for Rachel, although her role seems quite like a placeholder here.
A much DARKER film than your typical superhero movie, but, it serves the film well, and you walk away with a general sense that this was not your typical good superhero movie, but just a great movie in general!
Definitely a must see if you can beat the crowds.....
