Dark Knight Lights Up the Screen With Excitement!

Being a former local film reviewer, I was kinf of skeptical about this sequel, but this reviewer was, once again, pleasantly surprised.
Like IRON MAN, earlier this summer movie season, THE DARK KNIGHT, the esecond ofthe revamped Baman franchise, lived up to the massive hype.
What's even more thrilling than the action was the performance of the late Heath Ledger, erasing the memory of his predecessor, Jack Nicholson, in the role of "The Joker."
British actor Christian Bale is fine as Bruce Wayne/Batman, as is Academy Award winners Michael Caine (as Alfred) and Morgan Freeman (as Lucious Fox), but the real scene stealers are Ledger and Aaron Eckhart as the crusading lawyer turned villian Harvey "Two-Face" Dent (previously played by Billy De Williams and Tommy Lee Jones).
Christopher Nolan's direction is solid as is the screenplay (credited to Nolan, Jonathan Nolan, David "Pitch Black" Goyer and BATMAN's creator, Bob Kane.). This is, however, not recommended for children under 10, as the film is quite violent.
But, for the rest of us, including this reviewer..to steal a quote from a friend who said, after seeing the 1989 version, "I had a Bat-gasm!"

This is not just a great film but one of the best films I’ve seen in years. First, Iron Man was great; don’t get me wrong, but this movie is so complex and works in a “real” life setting. The approach of Heath Ledger is nothing less than absolutely spooky as the Joker. Completely transcending any earlier roles an taking himself to a extremely mentally “dark place” there were some moments where his action on screen was so “RAW” that I had to actually avert my eyes from the tensions of this tightly wound artistically styled movie. GO SEE IT!!!

This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. If you like Batman, Joker and Two-Face... then this is the movie for you. I like how the movie is not "animated" like the earlier Batman movies. Both Heath and Christian played their roles well.

Chris Nolan has done a fantastic job bringing back the true feeling of Batman. It is nice to see that the Series lived on through the whole Joel Schuamacher debacle. Ledger Gives the Joker a depth to the character that I envisioned when reading the comics. Bale, Morgan & Caine all delievered amzing performances. Maggie should have been in Batman Begins as it just felt right for her to play the part & Eckhart proved to be brilliant in the transformation into Two Face. All in all fantastic movie

Great movie for ages 10 and up. I would not recommend taking kids younger than 10 to see this movie. It's a little scary and violent.

Everyone turns in a great performance, especially Heath Ledger. The story is involving, and the action sequences are spectacular. The comic book superhero genre has never been one of my favorites, but I thoroughly enjoyed this show. I was sure parts of the movie would drag because of the 2 1/2 hour run time, but it never did. I would add that this movie maybe should've gotten an R rating..some scenes are pretty intense. I had a 7 or 8 year old girl sitting next to me and I kept expecting her parents to get her out of there, or at least cover her eyes, but they seemed unconcerned...poor kid.
Overall, though, an excellent film.

This is is an excellent movie. It plays plays more like a crime drama than your normal super hero movie. Heath Ledger's performance is not to be missed! It will be hard for any other actor to ever play the Joker again.

The Dark Knight is a dark yet entertaining movie. I felt like I was in a state of suspense the entire movie. Some of the scenes are very graphic but that's what the rating is for. Everyone in this movie acted incredibly well and their performances combined made this movie amazing. Don't expect fun and games because that's not what The Dark Knight is about!

Entertaining but too long and nothing much actually happened in the movie other than plot development for the next one. Also, not as many good action/fight scenes as Batman Begins. I think they could've done better. But, it's still a fun movie and Batman fans should definitely check it out.

This is the summer movie to see. Grabs the viewer from the moment it starts. Superb acting from the late Heath Ledger but lets not forget the incredible performance from Aaron Eckhart. Although, I feel his performance will be overshadowed from the death of Mr. Ledger. Gary Oldman does another excellent performance as Gordon. Not to forget the vets from this series Mr. Caine and Mr. Bale. Nothing is wrong with this film. Rumor has Heath getting aa possible Oscar nod, which he truly deserves, but as said before, Mr. Eckhart also should be considered for an Oscar nod also. This movie is nothing short of perfection!

Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, and Christopher Nolan deliver what could possibly be considered one of the greatest sequels ever made. Heath Ledger's joker ranks among the greatest movie villains of all time. However, this film does not measure up to the first installment for one reason. The character arc of Two Face seems too abrupt and unconvincing. His fall from a "white night", face of justice District Attorney, to a revenge driven killer over the death of his lover feels rushed and compressed. This may seem a bit harsh to some of you, but I stand by my opinion. This keeps the movie from attaining 5 star status. 4 and 3 quarter stars.

I don't throw around terms like 'perfect' or words like 'masterpiece'. However, this will be an exception to that rule. Bale shines again as Batman/Bruce Wayne, this movie deals a lot with the very psychology of the Batman. Batman is both inspiration to good and to evil. His crusade against criminality has produced a monster who is not bound by rules, and will stop at nothing. The Joker.

The movie is worth all of the hype, as is Heath Ledger's performance. His ability shines through, and unfortunately will be his final piece to share. The late Mr. Ledger is the driving force of the movie pumping absolute chaos through the entire film. Much like Johnny Depp in 'Pirates of the Caribbean"; this performance lets us get insight into the commitment it takes to become a character. Ledger becomes the Joker in every way.
However, unlike 'Pirates' the cast in The Dark Knight delivers a dynamite cast who are all brilliant in their respective roles. Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, and Maggie Gyllenhaal help round out the cast and each holds up their end of the movie and then some. Oldman does great being the cop who is doing all he can in a world gone mad. Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent gives another powerhouse performance. For any Batman Fans this movie is just what you've been waiting for. For any one who isn't a fan of comics. This movie is the reason we have been reading them all these years. Complex stories that move and question our morality and the ability of the hero to stand against the storm. This is our Hercules for the modern age; his labors are many and gratefully unfinished.
The saddest thing about the movie is the Credits. For in this moment we realize that this is Heath Ledger's final performance.

Although the movie didn't follow the comic books or animated series of Batman, they did and AMAZING job with the Dark Knight. Yes, they took liberties, yes, they changed some story lines, yes yes yes. But, nowadays, we have to take the movie as its own entity. Take it for what it is. And in that, The Dark Knight was absolutely incredible. All the loose ends, all the little details fit so well together with a cast that was perfect.

Christian Bale is being added to my hottie list. He is great as Bruce Wayne and I really enjoy his interactions with those closest to him as Bruce.
